Patent number: 10902427Abstract: Systems and methods of improving the operation of a transaction network and transaction network devices is disclosed. A transaction network host may comprise various modules and engines as discussed herein wherein the probability that a transaction is a business or personal transaction may be evaluated for establishing proper usage of differentiated transaction instruments according to their proper purposes. For instance, a probable personal transaction may be identified as being associated with a business-oriented transaction card, whereby the transaction network may tailor the handling of the transaction, such as by denying it, whereby the transaction network may actively deter misuse of transaction products whereby the transaction network more properly functions according to approved parameters.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2015Date of Patent: January 26, 2021Assignee: AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVEL RELATED SERVICES COMPANY, INC.Inventors: Vernon Marshall, Sangarsh Nigam, Ashish Sharma, Bhupinder Singh, Mira Srinivasan

Patent number: 10872341Abstract: Systems and methods for secondary fraud detection during transaction verifications are disclosed. A payment system may transmit a fraud protection notification to a user in response to potential fraud being detected as part of a primary transaction fraud detection process. In response to the user interacting with the fraud protection notification to confirm that the transaction was not fraudulent, the system may capture user device data from the user's device. The system may perform a secondary fraud detection process on the captured user device data to determine whether the verification of the transaction has a risk of being fraudulent.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2018Date of Patent: December 22, 2020Inventors: Michelle R. Beckman, Scott Belsky, Vernon Marshall, Ryan R. Sohm

Patent number: 10721324Abstract: A merchant server may integrate device identifying code into a webpage. In response to a device accessing the webpage, the device identifying code may cause the merchant server to obtain characteristics of the device. A device registry may compare the characteristics of the device with known device profiles to determine a risk level of the device. A transaction account issuer may utilize the risk level in performing an authorization evaluation.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2018Date of Patent: July 21, 2020Assignee: AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVEL RELATED SERVICES COMPANY, INC.Inventors: Andras Ferenczi, Vishnu Garg, Vernon Marshall, Sulabh Monga, Timothy Rollins, Vishnuvajhala Venkata Subrahmanyam

Publication number: 20190087914Abstract: Systems and methods of improving the operation of a transaction network and transaction network devices is disclosed. A SBO identification network host may comprise various modules and engines as discussed herein wherein the probability that a cardholder is a small business owner may be evaluated for establishing proper usage of differentiated transaction instruments according to their proper purposes, marketing and cross-marketing of differentiated transaction instruments, and provision of value-added services. For instance, a probable SBO may be identified, whereby the SBO identification network network may tailor the handling of the transactions, such as by denying them, whereby the transaction network may actively deter misuse of transaction products, or tailor the handling of electronically delivered advertisements, such as by targeting them, whereby the SBO identification network more properly functions according to approved parameters.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 8, 2018Publication date: March 21, 2019Applicant: American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc.Inventors: VERNON MARSHALL, ARNAB BOSE, HOUMAN MOTAHARIAN, ASHISH KAPATIA SHARMA, SURABHI SINGHAL, CHAO YUAN

Patent number: 9852424Abstract: One-to-many comparisons of callers' voice prints with known voice prints to identify any matches between them. When a customer communicates with a particular entity, such as a customer service center, the system makes a recording of the real-time call including both the customer's and agent's voices. The system segments the recording to extract at least a portion of the customer's voice to create a customer voice print, and it formats the segmented voice print for network transmission to a server. The server compares the customer's voice print with multiple known voice prints to determine any matches, meaning that the customer's voice print and one of the known voice prints are likely from the same person. The identification of any matches can be used for a variety of purposes, such as determining whether to authorize a transaction requested by the customer.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2015Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: III Holdings 1, LLCInventors: Vicki Broman, Vernon Marshall, Seshasayee Bellamkonda, Marcel Leyva, Cynthia Hanson

Publication number: 20170111504Abstract: One-to-many comparisons of callers' words and/or voice prints with known words and/or voice prints to identify any substantial matches between them. When a customer communicates with a particular entity, such as a customer service center, the system makes a recording of the real-time call including both the customer's and agent's voices. The system segments the recording to extract different words, such as words of anger. The system may also segment at least a portion of the customer's voice to create a tone profile, and it formats the segmented words and tone profiles for network transmission to a server. The server compares the customer's words and/or tone profiles with multiple known words and/or tone profiles stored on a database to determine any substantial matches. The identification of any matches may be used for a variety of purposes, such as providing representative feedback or customer follow-up.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2016Publication date: April 20, 2017Inventors: Chin H.
