  • Patent number: 8050350
Abstract: In an I-Q receiver, I-Q baseband mixer receives a real signal, and outputs an in-phase baseband information signal and a quadrature baseband information signal, a decoupling compensator multiplies in-phase baseband information signal and the quadrature baseband information signal by a trained decoupling matrix that, based on adaptive training in response to purely in-phase and purely quadrature phase training signals, decouples the in-phase baseband information signal from a quadrature component of the I-Q signal, and decouples quadrature-phase baseband information signal from an in-phase component of the I-Q signal. Optionally, a trained I-arm-Q-arm imbalance compensator performs a filter compensation on one or both of the decoupled in-phase baseband signal and the quadrature-phase baseband signal output by the trained decoupling matrix.

  • Publication number: 20110264665
Abstract: A data search and retrieval system that, in response to a search query, dynamically selects and applies a model of information to be returned to a user. The model may be selected based on the search query directly or indirectly based on data returned by a search engine applying the query. For this purpose, the system may include an index of models, similar to a search index. Models may be authored and contributed to the search and retrieval system by third parties, and an association between each such contributed model and characteristics of a search query, such as specific search query terms, may be stored in the index of models. A user of the search and retrieval system may provide feedback on a model that was used to generate information in response to the user's search query, and such feedback may be used to update the index of models.

  • Publication number: 20110264678
Abstract: A data search and retrieval system that, in response to a search query, applies a model to search results to generate information to be returned to a user. A user may modify the model via a set of controls displayed to the user. The modified model may then be applied to search results to generate information in compliance with the modified model. Modified models may be stored locally on a client system or stored in the search system and made available to other users so that the modified models can be applied to subsequent requests for information. The modified models and the results of a search may be stored on a client machine such that, as the model is modified, new information may be generated based on the original search, reducing communication bandwidth, which can improve the speed and cost of providing user interaction with data in a mobile environment.

  • Publication number: 20110262340
Abstract: Electromagnetic irradiation of functionalized fullerenes in an oxygen-free environment induces conversion of the functionalized fullerenes to carbon nanotubes, carbon nanohorns, carbon onions, diamonds and/or carbon schwarzites. The carbon nanotubes can be multi-wall carbon nanotubes. Advantageously, the subject invention can be used for in-situ synthesis of carbon nanostructures within a matrix to form a carbon nanostructure composite, where positioning of the carbon nanostructures is controlled by the manner of dispersion of the functionalized fullerenes in the matrix. Carbon nanotube comprising features, such as electrical connects, can be formed on a surface by irradiating a portion of a functionalized fullerene coating with a laser beam.

  • Patent number: 8046161
Abstract: A computer, for planning moves of freight automatically receives a plan containing a number of trips to be performed to move freight using vehicles, and partially releases only a portion of the plan for execution instead of releasing the entire plan. The plan portion that is released includes a subset of trips that are selected by the computer from among all trips in the entire plan. Thereafter, the computer simply repeats the just-described acts. Iteratively releasing portions of a plan allows the computer to be instructed to release early certain trips that are satisfactory. Trips that are sub-optimal are re-generated in a next version of the plan, based on changes in orders in the interim. The computer may also be instructed to release a trip even if sub-optimal, if its time-to-departure becomes less than an advance notice needed by a truckload service that is to execute the trip.

  • Patent number: 8043285
Abstract: A working end of a catheter includes at least one therapeutic element, such as a resistive heating element, usable to deliver energy for ligating, or reducing the diameter of, a hollow anatomical structure. In certain examples, the catheter includes a lumen to accommodate a guide wire or to allow fluid delivery. In certain embodiments, a balloon is inflated to place resistive element(s) into apposition with a hollow anatomical structure and to occlude the structure. Indexing devices and methods are also disclosed for successively treating portions of the hollow anatomical structure. In certain examples, marks along the catheter shaft provide visual verification to the physician of the relative position of the therapeutic element of the catheter. Embodiments of indexing devices may include pairs of rings and/or hinged arms that move a catheter a desired indexed position between successive treatments.

  • Publication number: 20110258215
Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method is present for analyzing a network data processing system. Known information about the network data processing system is obtained by a computer system. A model of the network data processing system is created by the computer system using the known information. Missing information about the network data processing system is identified by the computer system in the model of the network data processing system. A number of people is selected by the computer system for obtaining the missing information. A number of requests to the number of people is sent by the computer system for the missing information. Each request includes the model. In response to receiving a number of responses to the number of requests by the computer system, the computer system updates the model.

  • Publication number: 20110257645
Abstract: A catheter includes multiple primary leads to deliver energy for ligating a hollow anatomical structure. Each of the primary leads includes a resistive element located at the working end of the catheter. Separation is maintained between the leads such that each lead can individually receive power. The catheter can include a lumen to accommodate a guide wire or to allow fluid delivery. Energy is applied until the diameter of the hollow anatomical structure is reduced to the point where occlusion is achieved. In one embodiment, a balloon is inflated to place the resistive elements into apposition with a hollow anatomical structure and to occlude the structure before the application of energy. The inflated balloon impairs blood flow and facilitates the infusion of saline, or medication, to the hollow anatomical structure in order to reduce the occurrence of coagulation and to improve the heating of the structure by the catheter.
