  • Patent number: 7349340
Abstract: Quality of Service (QoS) management in a service-based system may be provided by adaptively adjusting system operational parameters in response to real time relationships between QoS specifications and measurements. A QoS manager may include a measurement engine configured to acquire real time data that is specific to transaction instances of various transaction types. The manager also may include a controller for comparing transaction data from the measurement engine to the guaranteed QoS standards. Depending upon the results of the comparison, the controller may invoke control actions.

  • Patent number: 7349415
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for generating and using an enhanced tree bitmap data structure in determining a longest prefix match, such as in a router, packet switching system. One implementation organizes the tree bitmap to minimize the number of internal nodes that must be accessed during a lookup operation. A pointer is included in each of the trie or search nodes to the best match so far entry in the leaf or results array which allows direct access to this result without having to parse a corresponding internal node. Moreover, one implementation stores the internal node for a particular level as a first element in its child array. Additionally, one implementation uses a general purpose lookup engine that can traverse multiple tree bitmaps or other data structures simultaneously, and perform complete searches, partial searches, and resume partial searches such as after receiving additional data on which to search.

  • Publication number: 20080067524
Abstract: Micropipe-free, single crystal, silicon carbide (SiC) and related methods of manufacture are disclosed. The SiC is grown by placing a source material and seed material on a seed holder in a reaction crucible of the sublimation system, wherein constituent components of the sublimation system including the source material, reaction crucible, and seed holder are substantially free from unintentional impurities. By controlling growth temperature, growth pressure, SiC sublimation flux and composition, and a temperature gradient between the source material and the seed material or the SiC crystal growing on the seed material during the PVT process, micropipe-inducing process instabilities are eliminated and micropipe-free SiC crystal is grown on the seed material.

  • Patent number: 7346682
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and apparatus for efficient and reliable, control and distribution of data files or portions of files, applications, or other data objects in large-scale distributed networks. A unique content-management front-end provides efficient controls for triggering distribution of digitized data content to selected groups of a large number of remote computer servers. Network distribution messages are dispatched according to a sorted list of servers, based on factors such as nearness, server processor speed, reliability, and CPU Usage. For large numbers of servers, a store-and-forward approach becomes much more efficient. A first selected server receives the message from a content control manager (CCM). The first server requests instructions for the next server listed on an ordered list in the CCM and forwards a copy of that message to the next identified server. Each server reports its completion and requests further instructions from the CCM.

  • Publication number: 20080062902
Abstract: A fixed broadband wireless data access service providing shared wide-band packet-switched data transport for high speed data access in areas where conventional ADSL service and fiber optic service are unavailable. The wireless data access service is a point-to-multipoint cellular-type network that connects customers to data service providers through the ATM backbone of an existing network. Customers connect to the ATM backbone and data service provider through a cellular grid in which a wireless base station in each cell communicates with the individual customer wireless equipment within its cell site coverage area. The base stations are connected to an ATM backbone switch through wireless and wireline backhaul links. The upstream and downstream bandwidths of the wireless broadband network are engineered in various symmetric and asymmetric configurations to provide a shared packet-switched connection that emulates an uninterrupted, direct wireline ADSL connection.

  • Publication number: 20080064144
Abstract: A chip package includes a thermal interface material disposed between a die backside and a heat sink. The thermal interface material includes a first metal particle that is covered by a dielectric film. The dielectric film is selected from an inorganic compound of the first metal or an inorganic compound coating of a second metal. The dielectric film diminishes overall heat transfer from the first metal particle in the thermal interface material by a small fraction of total possible heat transfer without the dielectric film. A method of operating the chip includes biasing the chip with the dielectric film in place.

  • Publication number: 20080062863
Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for handling transaction timeouts during setup and management of communication sessions. In particular, a communication device may be configured to handle transaction timeouts differently based on the type of signaling and control message that experienced the transaction timeout. In one aspect, the communication devices may handle transaction timeouts experienced during register transactions differently than transaction timeouts experienced during non-register. For example, the communication device that initiated the transaction initiates at least one subsequent transaction to the current proxy server when a non-register transaction experiences the transaction timeout. After experiencing a threshold number of consecutive transaction timeouts, an expiration of a failure duration timer, or a transaction timeout associated with a register transaction, the communication device cancels the current communication session and sends a register message to a new proxy server.

  • Publication number: 20080064906
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a continuous process for pretreating a lignocellulosic feedstock. A feedstock slurry is provided, which has a solids concentration of 10% to 33% by weight. The feedstock slurry is pumped through a heating train of at least two stages, each stage including a pump to increase stage pressure and a direct steam injection to heat the feedstock slurry. Acid is also added to the feedstock slurry prior to the heating train, during a heating stage, or after leaving the heating train; the acid is added at a concentration of 0% to 12% weight of acid on weight of initial feedstock. A heated, acidified feedstock slurry is thus produced. The heated, acidified feedstock slurry is flowed through a pre-treatment reactor at a temperature of 160° C. to 280° C. for a time sufficient to increase efficiency of conversion of cellulose in the feedstock to glucose using cellulase enzymes.

  • Publication number: 20080056117
Abstract: A method for defining a valid set of sub-channels {1, 2, . . . , K} for transmission between a user device and a base station, where each sub-channel “k” has sub-carrier spacing s[k]. Sub-carriers of each sub-channel are equi-spaced. That is, for each sub-channel “k”, the distance between consecutive sub-carriers is maintained at a fixed level s[k]. Different sub-channels can have different sub-carrier spacing s[k]. Sub-channels are non-overlapping. A resource tree is used to select a valid set of sub-channels from a set of possible tone spacing's that include sequence {M1, M2, . . . , MN} of not necessarily different positive integers.

  • Publication number: 20080059035
Abstract: An alternative fuel vehicle having a fuel economy control module with associated logic that allows the vehicle to operate in a fuel economy mode based on a desired fuel economy preference. The fuel economy control logic is in electrical communication with a vehicle system controller (VSC) and may be integrally formed as a sub-module within the VSC. A fuel economy control switch controlled by the fuel economy control logic toggles between an on and an off position to enable or disable a fuel economy mode. A fuel economy control selector allows a user to select a desired fuel economy mode preference once the fuel economy control switch is on. The fuel economy mode selected represents a predefined desired fuel economy preference such as a distance per amount of fuel consumed, or alternatively, a percentage of a balance between a fuel economy operation and a fuel performance operation.
