  • Publication number: 20120318265
Abstract: A breathing mask for use in administering inhalable medications to a patient in need of an inhaled drug is provided. The mask disclosed herein is particularly useful for use with very young children. The mask is made from a flexible molded plastic silicone or elastomeric material, and has an anthropometrically/anatomically/ergonomically contoured shape to provide a good seal, a comfortable fit, and minimal dead space within the mask. The airway is aligned with nose. There may be an orifice for use with a soother device to calm a child using the mask. Also provided is a visual flow indicator to provide an indication of the quality of the seal of the mask on the face.

  • Publication number: 20120318261
Abstract: This invention discloses a chamber adapted for the administration of medication from a source of aerosolized drug, such as a metered dose inhaler (MDI) or nebulizer, comprising a conduit with an oval cross section, a mounting for the MDI at the rear, an annular one-way valve at the front in fluid communication with the inhalation airway of the patient that permits air to flow out of the chamber during an inhalation by the patient, but prevents exhaled air from entering the chamber, an exhaust valve in the front section that provides an effective seal during inhalation, and a solid state whistle, wherein the whistle is adapted to making a sound if the air pressure within the chamber is below a predefined threshold. The inventive chamber may be used to directly administer inhaled medication to the mouth of a patient, or it may be used with an inhalation mask.

  • Publication number: 20120313269
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing metastable nanostructured materials employing a ceramic shroud surrounding a plasma flame having a steady state reaction zone into which an aerosol or liquid jet of solution precursor or powder material is fed, causing the material to be pyrolyzed, melted, or vaporized, followed by quenching to form a metastable nanosized powder that has an amorphous (short-range ordered), or metastable microsized powder that has a crystalline (long-range ordered) structure, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20120197516
Abstract: A system and method for aircraft taxi gate selection based on passenger connecting flight information are disclosed. In one embodiment, a communication link is established between an aircraft computing system and a ground station system via a communication network provided by the ground station system. Further, aircraft taxi gate selection information and the passenger connecting flight information are substantially simultaneously displayed on a display device to a pilot upon establishing the communication link. Furthermore, the pilot is allowed to select an aircraft taxi gate based on the displayed aircraft taxi gate selection information and passenger connecting flight information.

  • Publication number: 20110313645
Abstract: A system and method for aircraft taxiing and guidance using ground station's communication network is disclosed. In one embodiment, in a method of aircraft taxiing and guidance, a communication link between an aircraft computing system and a ground station system is established using a communication network provided by the ground station system. An aircraft taxi selection and guidance application residing in the aircraft computing system is displayed on a display device upon establishing the communication link. Further, one or more pilot selectable taxiing and ground services are displayed upon selecting the aircraft taxi selection and guidance application. One of the displayed pilot selectable taxiing and ground services is selected by a pilot of an aircraft. Information associated with the selected pilot selectable taxiing and ground service is then displayed on the display device using ground station data. The aircraft is taxied and guided by the pilot using displayed information.

  • Publication number: 20110115231
Abstract: A hydrokinetic energy conversion system (HKECS) is provided, comprising design configurations suitable for efficient production of tidal or river in-stream kinetic energy into useful mechanical energy for tasks such as generating electricity or water pumping. The apparatus includes a set of blades with an airfoil cross sectional contour moving on a horizontal or vertical closed loop track, whereby the blades are propelled through the water by a net tangential lift force, rather than drag, to effectively convert the kinetic energy of flowing water to useful power.

  • Patent number: 7709971
Abstract: A linear wind powered electric generator (LWPEG), which is particularly adapted for installation at geographical sites subject to lower wind intensities. More specifically, there are provided design concepts for an LWPEG, possessing reasonable economic parameters for utilization at the lower-intensity wind sites. Moreover, the linear wind powered electric generator is based on a track based wind power generator, incorporating aerodynamic designs, which are adapted to reduce mechanical complexities presently encountered in this technology, while being cost-effective both in construction and in connection with the operation thereof.
