  • Patent number: 9490620
Abstract: A low permeability electrical feed-through involves a laminated structure having a conductor layer sandwiched between adjacent insulator layers, which are sandwiched between adjacent diffusion control layers, where the laminated structure provides a relatively narrow and long, high aspect ratio diffusion channel to inhibit the leakage of gas from within a sealed device to the external environment. The electrical feed-through may comprise lower and upper electrical connection pads that are positioned within different regions of the feed-through but still electrically connected by way of a first via positioned in a sealed region, the conductor layer, and a second via positioned in an external environment region.

  • Patent number: 9336809
Abstract: A method to fabricate an imprint template for bit-patterned magnetic recording media using block copolymers (BCPs) integrates data region patterning and servo region patterning. A heat sink layer is formed on the imprint substrate only in the data regions. A sublayer for the BCP is deposited over both the data regions and the servo regions and patterned to form stripes in the data regions and servo features in the servo regions. A BCP is then deposited in both the data and servo regions. Only the BCP in the data regions is heated, which causes phase separation of the BCP in the data regions into the two BCP components. The selective heating may be accomplished by directed controlled laser radiation to only the data regions. The heat sink layer below the data regions absorbs the heat from the laser radiation, confining it to the data regions.

  • Patent number: 9001458
Abstract: A hard disk drive (HDD) assembly includes a conventional HDD enclosed within a two-piece metal container, whereby a lid is hermetically sealed to a body by melted metal and wherein the container is filled with helium gas. For example, the container may be formed of tin-plated steel and the two pieces soldered together to form the hermetically sealed container, having an electrical feed-through sealed similarly.

  • Patent number: 8810971
Abstract: A piezoelectric (PZT) microactuator directly attached to a head slider, for mounting on a suspension for use as a third stage actuator in a hard disk drive, is fabricated from and comprises a single sheet of a piezoelectric material with the top and bottom covered with an electrically conductive material to form the electrodes. The piezoelectric material is differential-poled so that one lateral portion is poled in one direction and another lateral portion is poled in the opposite direction. When a drive voltage is applied between the top and bottom electrodes, one portion of the piezoelectric material expands while the other portion contracts, thereby providing a rotational movement. The direction of motion of each respective portion is determined by the direction of the applied voltage and the respective direction of poling.
