  • Publication number: 20230283592
Abstract: A base station identifies received backhaul traffic including IP packets based on whether or not the reception was via a secure tunnel, e.g., an IPsec tunnel. Recovered data, e.g., an IP packet from an IPsec tunnel, is associated with an IPsec identifier having a value indicating that the packet came from an IPsec tunnel. Data, e.g., recovered IP packets, associated with an identifier indicating receipt via an IPsec tunnel are stored in a first transmission buffer, e.g., a high priority transmission buffer, while other recovered IP packets which were not received via an IPsec tunnel are stored in a second transmission buffer corresponding to a lower, e.g., normal, transmission priority. A downlink transmission scheduler, e.g. an MAC or frame scheduler, schedules transmission of frames includes IP packet data from both buffers, with data in the first buffer being given higher priority to reduce latency with regard to the IPsec traffic.

  • Patent number: 11751232
Abstract: A communication management resource partitions allocated wireless bandwidth into a first portion (such as first virtual bandwidth or first bandwidth part) and a second portion (such as virtual bandwidth or second bandwidth part). The communication management resource determines wireless interference associated with transmission of first wireless communications over the different bandwidth portions such as from a wireless base station to multiple communication devices while in a first mode. Depending on the wireless interference determined during the first mode, the communication management resource controls conveyance of second wireless communications over the allocated wireless bandwidth to the multiple communication devices in a second mode. In one instance, the communication management system operates one or more communication devices in a device-to-device mode to alleviate wireless interference associated with use of the allocated wireless bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 11722884
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a (e.g., 5G) wireless network has a (e.g., CBSD) base station and any suitable number of instances of user equipment (UE). For each group of one or more UEs, one of the UEs is designated as a primary UE that stores UE context information for the other (secondary) UEs in the UE group. To connect to a secondary UE, the base station can retrieve the UE context information from the secondary UE's associated primary UE without having to retrieve the secondary UE's context information from the core network, thereby reducing backbone bandwidth usage and delays in connecting the secondary UE, especially when many secondary UE request connections within a short time interval.

  • Publication number: 20230217340
Abstract: A first wireless base station provides a communication device access to a remote network over a wireless communication link. The wireless communication link provides poor connectivity between the mobile communication device and the first wireless base station. The first wireless base station receives a notification indicating that the communication device is within wireless range of at least a second wireless base station. To initiate a handoff of the communication device from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station, the first wireless base station transmits a wireless signal encoded to indicate that the wireless signal was transmitted from the second wireless base station. Communication of the wireless signal causes the communication device to perceive that it receives a strong signal from the second wireless base station, prompting the communication device to perform a handoff from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station.

  • Patent number: 11695652
Abstract: Detect, at a cable/fiber broadband network termination unit of a cable/fiber broadband multi-service operator, an interruption in service to a cable/fiber broadband network customer unit—small cell pair. Responsive to detecting the interruption, the termination unit advises a charging server of the operator of the interruption in service, a corresponding identifier of the customer unit—small cell pair, and a corresponding account identifier. Responsive to termination unit advising the charging server, the charging server advises a backend server of an associated cellular network of a customer identifier corresponding to the account identifier. Responsive to the charging server advising the backend server, the backend server advises a policy control function of the associated cellular network to modify network parameters of the associated cellular network to compensate for the interruption in service.

  • Publication number: 20230209334
Abstract: A first dual SIM user equipment (UE) has a first wireless connection to first Citizens Broadband radio Services Devices (CBSD) of a first network and a second wireless connection to a second CBSD of a second network. Different encryption and different frequency hopping patterns are used with regard to communicating the same voice packet information over the first and second wireless connections. The same voice information is attempted to be redundantly communicated over the two connections, e.g. concurrently or with a slight delay with regard to the two connections. The CBRS communications are typically less reliable than cellular licensed spectrum communications, and a particular encrypted voice packet may, and sometimes is lost; however, the redundancy is used to compensate for expected losses. Successfully recovered encrypted voice packets are sent from the CBSDs to a packet synchronizer which performs decryption and combines the recovered packets into a single packet stream.

  • Patent number: 11690137
Abstract: A communication system includes a wireless base station and a channel allocation management resource. The wireless base station receives allocation of a first wireless channel from a communication management resource. Via the first wireless channel, the wireless base station establishes a first communication layer in which to communicate with first wireless communication devices using the allocated first wireless channel. The wireless base station establishes a second communication layer in which to communicate with second wireless communication devices using the allocated first wireless channel. Via the first communication layer and the second communication layer, the wireless base station provides the first wireless communication devices and that the second wireless communication devices access to a respective remote network.

  • Publication number: 20230198793
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enhancing connectivity for a device backhauled by a wireline communication network. In one embodiment, the device comprises a small-cell or other wireless base station that is backhauled by a DOCSIS system within a managed HFC network, and the method and apparatus enable enhanced connection of user devices serviced by the base station (such as 3GPP UE or CBRS FWA) to a core entity for e.g., authentication and packet session establishment. In one implementation, enhanced Cable Termination System (CMTS) and cable modem (CM) devices coordinate to allocate prioritized service flows to traffic sourced from the base station. These service flows can selectively bypass extant DOCSIS protocols which might otherwise increase connection latency (including connection failure) such as AQM (active queue management) and packet dropping algorithms. In some variants, upstream service flow data rates can also be enhanced through temporary utilization of higher-order modulation and/or coding schemes.

  • Publication number: 20230180277
Abstract: A communication management resource detects or anticipates occurrence of wireless interference on a wireless channel allocated to a wireless base station to communicate with multiple communication devices. In response to the detected wireless interference, the communication management resource determines a group of the multiple communication devices receiving data of a particular type from the wireless base station. To reduce the wireless interference, the wireless base station notifies the communication devices in the group to operate in a device-to-device communication mode as an alternative path of conveying the particular type of data to the group of communication devices.

  • Publication number: 20230180322
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for operation of a dual-connectivity enabled premises device in a wireless communication network. In one embodiment, the methods and apparatus utilize so-called “quasi-licensed” CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) wireless spectrum in conjunction with a cellular wireless communication network (e.g. having 4G/4.5G LTE and 5G NR base stations) for the provision of services to a number of installed enhanced fixed wireless apparatus (FWAe) at user or subscriber premises. The FWAe has dual-connectivity functionality, and can connect to two different access technologies simultaneously. The FWAe (and base stations) also support a “split” mode of operation wherein each air interface is selectively used for only certain types of traffic (e.g., UL or DL only).

  • Publication number: 20230156479
Abstract: Various embodiments comprise systems, methods, and apparatus for enabling UE attached to a mobile network via a mid-band CBSD node to continue transmitting upload data to the mid-band CBSD node even in the event of a loss of Physical Downlink Control Channels (PDCCH) coverage of the CBSD node resulting in a failure of the UE to receive uplink grant schedule updates. Various embodiments contemplate that the UE responsively attaches to a low-band node which, based on physical cell ID (PCI) of the CBSD node, retrieves updated uplink grant schedules from the CBSD node via a backhaul network and provides the uplink grant schedules to the UE.
