  • Publication number: 20230155854
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enhancing communication and performance for a device backhauled by a wireline communication network. In one embodiment, the device comprises a small-cell or other wireless base station that is backhauled by a DOCSIS system within a managed HFC network, and the method and apparatus enable enhanced communication between the small cell/base station and the backhaul network so as to support “rate matching” between the device to mitigate packet overflow or other issues. In one implementation, enhanced cable modem (CM) and base station devices coordinate to inform the base station of the modulation order (and/or other parameters related to transmission of the data destined for the base station on the backhaul) so that the base station can selectively invoke utilization of higher-order modulation and/or coding schemes, as well as spatial multiplexing or beamforming.

  • Publication number: 20230144939
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for reducing base station downlink transmission power in a manner that provides one or more devices being serviced by the base station time to establish or switch to another connection are described. The methods and apparatus are particularly well suited for system where base stations may be instructed by a control device to reduce or stop downlink power to a point where downlink data transmission is not supportable. In various embodiments a base station responds to a downlink power reduction instruction by reducing downlink transmission power in downlink slots in a serious of power reduction steps. In cases where the required power reduction is to a point where downlink data transmission can not be supported, the base station signals that it is switching to a no DL slot mode of operation in which downlink slots are not supported but UL slots will continue to be supported.

  • Patent number: 11646997
Abstract: A base station identifies received backhaul traffic including IP packets based on whether or not the reception was via a secure tunnel, e.g., an IPsec tunnel. Recovered data, e.g., an IP packet from an IPsec tunnel, is associated with an IPsec identifier having a value indicating that the packet came from an IPsec tunnel. Data, e.g., recovered IP packets, associated with an identifier indicating receipt via an IPsec tunnel are stored in a first transmission buffer, e.g., a high priority transmission buffer, while other recovered IP packets which were not received via an IPsec tunnel are stored in a second transmission buffer corresponding to a lower, e.g., normal, transmission priority. A downlink transmission scheduler, e.g. an MAC or frame scheduler, schedules transmission of frames includes IP packet data from both buffers, with data in the first buffer being given higher priority to reduce latency with regard to the IPsec traffic.

  • Patent number: 11638177
Abstract: According to one configuration, a communication management resource in a wireless network environment records a location of a wireless base station. The communication management resource then defines a region of wireless coverage provided by the wireless base station based on feedback received from the wireless base station. For example, in one arrangement, the user equipment provides performance metrics to the wireless base station. The wireless base station uses the performance metrics to determine boundaries associated with a region of wireless coverage provided by the wireless base station. The wireless base station communicates the boundary information to the communication management resource.

  • Publication number: 20230123991
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for providing enhanced coverage in a quasi-licensed wireless system using a reduced-cost base station apparatus. In one embodiment, the base station is configured to utilize quasi-licensed 3.55-3.70 GHz CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) GAA and PAL spectrum, and employs a power amplifier sharing arrangement in its transmitter chain(s), along with multi-sector antenna elements. A scheduling algorithm operative on the base station generates sector-specific weights which are used to allocate the shared power amplifier(s) between the different sectors. Advantageously, design and production costs of the base station are reduced through sharing of comparatively expensive amplifier and transmitter chain components, thereby allowing for commoditization of the base station for mass distribution.

  • Patent number: 11627533
Abstract: Dynamic data rate selection in wireless networks is described. The includes sending, by a wireless controller to a base station, an access point power-data rate table. The base station updates a base station power-data rate table with the access point power-data rate table based on checking defined thresholds, confirms the validity of the updated base station power-data rate table by receiving measurements from a user device responsive to communications using the updated base station power-data rate table, reverts to a previous base station power-data rate table if the measurements indicate that the updated base station power-data rate table is not correct, and sends to the wireless controller one of the updated base station power-data rate table or the previous base station power-data rate table. The wireless controller updates the access point power-data rate table and sends the updated access point power-data rate table to an access point.

  • Patent number: 11617182
Abstract: In a (e.g., 5G CBRS) radio system, a processor (e.g., a SAS) receives, from (e.g., CBSD) base stations, beam-level information about beams used by the base stations to communicate with UEs, uses the information to assess interference associated with the beams, and instructs the base stations to modify one or more specified beams in order to reduce the interference. In addition to powering down one or more specified beams, a base station may create new beams to attempt to satisfy UE bandwidth needs without creating unacceptable levels of interference.
