  • Publication number: 20150097716
Abstract: Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer readable media are disclosed for providing timing-based distance measurement to a passive radio frequency identification (“RFID”) tag using one or more wideband RF signals synchronized with the standard narrowband RF signal. In some embodiments, the narrowband RF signal activates a passive RFID tag creating a backscatter reflection target which returns a modulated narrowband signal and a wideband signal from the passive RFID tag. The one or more wideband receivers determine time-of-flight and/or time-of-arrival measurements for the returned wideband signal. A location measurement is then calculated for the passive RFID tag using the tag data, the known location of the wideband transceivers, and the time-of-flight/time-of-arrival data.

  • Publication number: 20150080921
Abstract: An expandable cage is expanded within a narrowed region of a blood vessel. The expandable cage has openings therein so that plaque protrudes through the openings when the cage is expanded. A material removing element passes within the cage to remove the plaque extending into the openings. The openings are preferably formed by integrally formed elements which provide a smooth internal surface. The material removing element passes along the smooth internal surface when removing the plaque. A collection bag is coupled to the material removing element to capture the material which has been removed.

  • Publication number: 20140285813
Abstract: A wavefront sensing technique using Polarization Rotation INTerferometry (PRINT) provides a self-referencing, high-resolution, direct measurement of the spatially dependent phase profile of a given optical beam. A self-referencing technique is used to create a reference beam in the orthogonal polarization and a polarization measurement to measure the spatial-dependent polarization parameters to directly determine the absolute phase profile of the beam under test. A high-resolution direct measurement of the spatially-resolved phase profile of one or more optical beams is realized.

  • Publication number: 20140196450
Abstract: An electric generation system includes a plurality of connected water filled chambers, each having a pivoting door that sequentially covers and exposes an access port through which buoyant objects travel to an ascending water filled tube leading to a bucket conveyor that drives a generator. The pivoting doors are synchronized so that one is opened while the other is closed. The doors are opened and closed by hemispherical cams driven by a motor. The pivoting doors propel buoyant objects towards the tube.

  • Publication number: 20140193998
Abstract: In distribution networks for safety sensors and devices, aspects of the invention provide routing individualized status signals in parallel to potential safety sensor locations in addition to serially routing safety signals to provide substantially increased protection. A shorting plug that electrically shorts together an individualized status signal to a voltage reference level at a safety sensor location, in addition to electrically shorting together the safety signals for electrical continuity, provides individualized status information for each potential safety sensor location in addition to the serial safety information provided by the safety signals. Another aspect of the invention provides a remote monitoring device coupled to one or more adapter ports, with each adapter port coupled to one or more safety sensors, wherein adapter ports are coupled via cabling with cable endings of the same type, thereby preventing circumvention of a safety sensor simply by coupling together adjacent cables.

  • Publication number: 20140118117
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide an RFID system for safely controlling an auto guided vehicle, an automated robot or other moving object (“AGV/BOT”). The system may include a plurality of radio frequency identification (“RFID”) tags, and each may store a unique identification in a first memory location, a position in a second memory location and/or an instruction in a third memory location. An AGV/BOT having an RFID transceiver or antenna and a computer with a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing a predetermined table may read one or more of the memory locations. The table comprises a plurality of data elements with certain data elements associated with particular RFID tags. The AGV/BOT safely determines its location upon matching the one or more memory locations read with one or more data elements, or triggers a fault upon failing to match. The AGV/BOT may also predict the next RFID tag.

  • Patent number: 8588257
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that accommodates different clock frequencies in an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON). The system receives a signal from an optical line terminal (OLT) at an optical network unit (ONU) and derives an OLT clock. The system also maintains a local clock. The system further receives from the OLT an assignment for an upstream transmission window, during which the ONU can transmit an upstream data burst to the OLT based on the local clock. The system adjusts the number of bits of the data burst without affecting the payload data carried in the data burst, thereby allowing the data burst to fit properly within the upstream transmission window and compensating for frequency differences between the local clock and the OLT clock. The system transmits the data burst based on the local clock in the upstream transmission window.
