  • Patent number: 9813396
Abstract: In some aspects, control circuitry receives, at a content provider server that is associated with a first subscription service, a first authentication key from a content aggregator server that is associated with a second subscription service, prior to the user subscribing to the first subscription service. The control circuitry generates and stores, at the content provider server, the first user account after comparing the first authentication key to acceptable authentication. In response to storing the first user account, the control circuitry receives a request from the content aggregator server to subscribe the user to the first subscription service, wherein the request includes a second authentication key.

  • Patent number: 9788056
Abstract: Methods and systems for a media guidance application that may stimulate the senses of users. The media guidance application may determine a preferred biometric state associated with a media asset, determine a current biometric measurement of a user, cross-reference the preferred biometric state in a database to determine a difference in sensory stimulation between the current biometric state of the user and the preferred biometric state, and cause the user to be stimulated to account for the difference.

  • Publication number: 20170289621
Abstract: Systems and methods for allowing a user to access a different version of a blocked media asset. These systems and methods allow a first user to request access to the blocked media asset from a second user who has authority to approve access to the blocked media asset. These systems and methods determine different versions of the media asset available from different sources. These systems and methods notify the second user that the first user has requested access to the blocked media asset and include, in the notification, an option to unblock any one of the different versions of the media asset available from the different sources. This allows the second user to determine if there is a version of the media asset that the second user deems suitable for unblocking.

  • Publication number: 20170285860
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for controlling playback of a media asset using a touch screen. In some embodiments, a media guidance application may control media playback based on touch screen input positions that are stored before the user removes his finger from the touch screen. In some embodiments, the media guidance application may distinguish between intended touch screen inputs and jitter by analyzing the time it takes to perform a touch screen input, the speed/acceleration of an input, or the orientation of an input.

  • Publication number: 20170285861
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for reducing jitter of touch screen inputs. In some embodiments, a media guidance application may receive touch screen inputs for controlling media playback, such as a swipe gesture. The media guidance application may compare the orientation of the swipe gesture with the orientation of a generated display and/or progress bar associated with the media asset playback. Based on the comparison, the media guidance application may distinguish between intended touch screen inputs and unintended jitter.

  • Patent number: 9781479
Abstract: Methods and systems are described for a media guidance application that provides recommendations to a user viewing a media asset. For example, the media guidance application may provide a recommendation of a media asset based on a user's profile and may modify the user's profile based on the user's actions and keywords in the content of the media asset. For example, the media guidance application may determine whether the media asset is of interest to a user and in response may update the user's profile based on keywords in the media asset. If the media guidance application determines that the media asset is of interest to the user, it may add keywords in the content of the media asset to the user's profile and increase their corresponding weights. Otherwise, the media guidance application may decrease the weights in the user's profile corresponding to keywords in the media asset.

  • Patent number: 9775014
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for expanding the functionality of a print scanner. The scanner may be programmed to invoke a different function if only a portion of a print is detected rather than a full print. In this manner, it would be possible for a user to share a user equipment device such as a smartphone with a friend. The user may wish to share his or her smartphone, and may activate access to the browser that does not include any of the cookies, private passwords, or other login information during a session by using just the tip of the user's finger on a fingerprint scanner, as opposed to the user's full fingerprint. When the user wishes to again have his or her personal information accessible in the browser, the user may activate the browser using the user's full fingerprint.

  • Patent number: 9762945
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for recommending a display device for media consumption. The location and media content preference of the user is determined and used to recommend the location of a display device that is currently displaying content relevant to the user. For example, if a user walks into a restaurant and indicates that he wishes to watch one of the televisions, he is directed to a television at the far side of the room which is already playing the sports (e.g., basketball) game with his favorite team. This helps ensure that users are able to find and consume content that is meaningful to them in public spaces.

  • Publication number: 20170238064
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for alerting a user that the user will be unable to view a broadcast program based on an estimated time of arrival of the user to a media consumption device, and responsively providing the user with an option to record the broadcast program. These systems and methods are performed at least by identifying a plurality of broadcast programs that are indicated on a profile of a user, receiving an estimated time of arrival of the user to a location of a media consumption device, responsively determining whether the user will be unable to view a broadcast program of the plurality of broadcast programs, responsively providing the user with an option to record the broadcast program, and responsively causing the broadcast program to be recorded.

  • Publication number: 20170186425
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for providing media guidance. Control circuitry may receive a first voice input and access a database of topics to identify a first topic associated with the first voice input. A user interface may generate a first response to the first voice input, and subsequent to generating the first response, the control circuitry may receive a second voice input. The control circuitry may determine a match between the second voice input and an interruption input such as a period of silence or a keyword or a phrase, such as “Ahh,”, “Umm,”, or “Hmm.” The user interface may generate a second response that is associated with a second topic related to the first topic. By interrupting the conversation and changing the subject from time to time, media guidance systems can appear to be more intelligent and human.

  • Publication number: 20170182283
Abstract: Methods and systems for enhancing sleep of a user. In some aspects, control circuitry receives a first input relating to a first sleep state. The control circuitry determines whether the first sleep state indicates the user has fallen asleep. In response to determining the user has fallen asleep, the control circuitry determines a first media asset corresponding to the first sleep state. The control circuitry generates for display the first media asset to enhance the user's sleep. The control circuitry receives a second input relating to a second sleep state. The control circuitry determines whether the second sleep state indicates the user is ready to be awakened. In response to determining the user is ready to be awakened, the control circuitry determines a second media asset corresponding to the second sleep state. The control circuitry generates for display the second media asset to awaken the user.

  • Publication number: 20170180785
Abstract: Methods and systems for receiving an interruption-free version of a television program for recording on a user equipment device. In one aspect, a device receives from a server a first stream including a television program. The device receives user input to record the television program. The device identifies a recording channel identifier for the first stream. The device initiates a recording of the television program based on the recording channel identifier for the first stream. The device receives from the server an instruction to switch recording of the television program from the first stream to a second stream. The device receives from the server the second stream including the television program. The device identifies a recording channel identifier for the second stream. The device switches the recording of the television program to the second stream based on the recording channel identifier for the second stream.
