Patent number: 9102763Abstract: Described herein are bioresponsive protein polymers for therapeutic applications, including delivery to physiologically demanding environments, such as the eye surface. Bioresponsive protein polymers can be fused with biopharmaceuticals using genetic engineering techniques for enhanced therapeutic activity. In certain embodiments, the unique temperature-sensitive phase separation properties of bioresponsive protein polymers, allows generation of therapeutics resistant to ocular clearance. Such fusion proteins containing bioresponsive protein polymers and biopharmaceuticals allow retention of drugs in the eye for much longer periods of time. Improved biostability and bioavailability improves drug efficacy, while reducing cost and eliminating the need for repeated drug Application.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2012Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: University of Southern CaliforniaInventors: John Andrew MacKay, Wan Wang

Patent number: 8308836Abstract: A system for depressurizing and cooling a high pressure, high temperature dense phase solids stream having coarse solid particles with entrained gas therein. In one aspect, the system has an apparatus for at least partially depressurizing and cooling the high pressure, high temperature dense phase solids stream having gas entrained therein and a pressure letdown device for further depressurization and separating cooled coarse solid particles from a portion of the entrained gas, resulting in a lower temperature, lower pressure outlet of solid particles for downstream processing or discharge to a storage silo for future use and/or disposal. There are no moving parts in the flow path of the solids stream in the system.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2009Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: Southern CompanyInventors: Guohai Liu, Wan Wang Peng, Pannalal Vimalchand

Patent number: 8303696Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and method to treat large amounts of flue gas from a pulverized coal combustion power plant. The flue gas is contacted with solid sorbents to selectively absorb CO2, which is then released as a nearly pure CO2 gas stream upon regeneration at higher temperature. The method is capable of handling the necessary sorbent circulation rates of tens of millions of lbs/hr to separate CO2 from a power plant's flue gas stream. Because pressurizing large amounts of flue gas is cost prohibitive, the method of this invention minimizes the overall pressure drop in the absorption section to less than 25 inches of water column. The internal circulation of sorbent within the absorber assembly in the proposed method not only minimizes temperature increases in the absorber to less than 25° F., but also increases the CO2 concentration in the sorbent to near saturation levels. Saturating the sorbent with CO2 in the absorber section minimizes the heat energy needed for sorbent regeneration.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2010Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Southern CompanyInventors: Pannalal Vimalchand, Guohai Liu, Wan Wang Peng

Patent number: 7979208Abstract: A mobile terminal according to this invention includes the first calculation module which autonomously calculates its own position based on a GPS signal, and the second calculation module which calculates its own position based on a acquired auxiliary information from a server and the GPS signal. A first control module causes a timer to start a time counting if the second position calculation module accesses the server. When the auxiliary information which satisfies a predetermined condition is not acquired in the time of the timer, the calculation module changes from the second calculation module to the first calculation module. The second control module determines the connection state with the server within the time of the timer. At the time point if the second control module determines that the connection state is an auxiliary information unobtainable state, the calculation module changes from the second calculation module to the first calculation module.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2007Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignee: Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications LimitedInventor: Wan Wang

Publication number: 20100032903Abstract: A board game includes a chessboard having squares arranged in a pattern on the chessboard; and pieces adapted to place on the squares respectively, each piece having a no-mark face-up side and a face-down side with either of diagonal lines or a grid of lines being printed thereon. The pieces with the diagonal lines are identified as one side and the pieces with the grid of lines are identified as the opposing side. Either side has one half the number of the pieces. The face-down side of each piece is marked with a scissors, a rock, or a paper. The pieces belonging to either side are grouped as the scissors pieces, the rock pieces, and the paper pieces, all being equal in numbers. The board game is particularly intended to be played by two individuals such as children or non-Chinese adults who cannot read Chinese characters.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2008Publication date: February 11, 2010Inventor: Ling-Wan WANG
