  • Patent number: 6029336
Abstract: A rotor for use in a line start permanent magnet motor comprises a rotor core having a shaft and including teeth defining slots; a rotor cage, at least a portion of which extends through the slots; and a layer of composite permanent magnet material at least partially coating the rotor core.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 17, 1995
Date of Patent: February 29, 2000
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Gerald Burt Kliman, Mark Alan Preston, Donald Wayne Jones
  • Patent number: 6012217
Abstract: A motor stator comprises a first stator frame part, a second stator frame part including first and second pole portions separated by a stator bridge, and two magnetic arms. Each of two bobbins is wound with a coil and situated on a respective one of the arms. The first and second stator frame parts are coupled by the arms so as to leave an opening between the two bobbins and the first and second frame parts for insertion of a rotor.

  • Patent number: 5910534
Abstract: Stable, aqueous dispersions of copolymers based on conjugated, aliphatic dienes and vinyl aromatic compounds are prepared by carrying out the emulsion polymerisation in the presence of water and emulsifiers and in the presence of water-soluble initiators, with 15 to 85 wt. % of the total of the emulsifiers used being added within the time in which up to 40% of the overall conversion of the components used is attained, and with 1 to 50% of the carboxylic acid groups contained in the additionally used ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids being neutralized by the addition of bases during the emulsion polymerisation.

  • Patent number: 5836402
Abstract: An auger-holder designed for transporting, stabilizing, and operating an auger from a vehicle, preferably an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The auger-holder includes a primary frame, a secondary frame, an attachment device for attaching the primary frame to a vehicle, and a locking mechanism for securing the secondary frame to the primary frame when the auger is not in use. The primary frame includes a structure of vertical and horizontal support members. The secondary frame is adjustably connected to the primary frame for stability and operability of the auger. The auger-holder optionally includes a hinge apparatus for aligning the auger at a range of angles relative to the plane of underlying terrain.

  • Patent number: 5647785
Abstract: A vertical microelectronic field emitter is formed by first forming tips on the face of a substrate and then forming trenches in the substrate around the tips to form columns in the substrate, with the tips lying on top of the columns. The trenches are filled with a dielectric and a conductor layer is formed on the dielectric. Alternatively, trenches may be formed in the face of the substrate with the trenches defining columns in the substrate. Then, tips are formed on top of the columns. The trenches are filled with dielectric and the conductor layer is formed on the dielectric to form the extraction electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5647054
Abstract: A smoke generator apparatus (10) is disclosed which is suitable for use in conducting air flow studies in wind tunnels. The smoke generator apparatus (10) includes a tube assembly (12) which may either be wire-packed or crimped and has fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics which permit the substantially uninterrupted flow of smoke-appearing vapor (82) from the tube outlet (52).

  • Patent number: 4997563
Abstract: A water treatment device is described which incorporates an easily changed cartridge containing an open-cell foam having a water treatment material contained therein, such as granules of a halogen compound. The device includes an adjustable orifice valve member which may be selectively positioned to control the water flowing through the cartridge. Thus, the device may be included in a water treatment system to treat either water flowing a source to a storage tank, or water being recirculated back into the storage tank.
