Publication number: 20160256165Abstract: A surgical staple remover apparatus is disclosed. The surgical staple remover apparatus includes a handle located at a rear of the apparatus, a housing having an interior volume and a distal opening, and a removable front end located in the distal opening. The front end comprises an upward sloped jaw element comprising a pair of parallel jaws, a movable anvil arm for pressing against a crown of the staple slated for removal, and a movable dual hook arm including a dual hook element. The staple remover further includes a lever mechanically coupled to the anvil arm and the dual hook arm, wherein moving the lever closer to the handle results in the anvil arm and the dual hook arm moving towards the jaw element, thereby deforming the surgical staple and the dual hook arm retracting the deformed surgical staple under the strip element and held in place by same.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2015Publication date: September 8, 2016Inventors: Matthew Sinnreich, Wayne Vassello

Publication number: 20150223843Abstract: An improved bone screw is disclosed which includes a shaft with distal portion having a threaded surface thereon, a sleeve having an opening which receives the shaft such that the shaft is able to move within the sleeve without moving the sleeve. A compressive device may be incorporated between the sleeve and the proximal portion of the shaft such that the compressive device forces the shaft and sleeve towards at least a portion each other, thereby maintaining the compressive load at the union of the fracture. As additional compression is exerted on the load from weight bearing, the force may be reduced, but the head of the sleeve is still substantially maintained against the lateral cortex.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 10, 2015Publication date: August 13, 2015Applicant: OrthoIP, LLCInventors: Kishore Tipirneni, Wayne Vassello

Patent number: 8679167Abstract: A system and method for facilitating the fixation of bone fractures is disclosed. The head component includes a tip, cutting threads and mating threads which are inserted into the far cortex of the bone. A wire extends from the head component and exits from the near cortex. A cap device includes a tension spring, wherein the tension spring is configured to assert friction against the wire when the cap is translated in one direction, but minimal friction against the wire when the cap is translated in the opposite direction. The cap is threaded over the wire such that the cap is restricted from backwards movement. Tension is then applied to the wire while the cap is tightened against or within the bone surface to apply an appropriate amount of pressure between the surfaces of the fracture. The excess wire beyond the cap can then be removed.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2007Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Orthoip, LLCInventors: Kishore Tipirneni, Wayne Vassello
