  • Publication number: 20100044306
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating slurries of organic solids is disclosed. A slurry of organic solids is admixed with hydrogen peroxide, followed by exposure to microwave irradiation resulting in the heating of the mixture and enhanced hydrolysis of the organic solids. The treated slurry of organic solids can then be further treated in a variety of downstream processes, including solid separation, digestion and fermentation. The supernatant portion of the treated slurry of organic solids can be a source from which to recover compounds such as nutrients (for example nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, magnesium, calcium) or industrial organic compounds (such as acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid), or as a source of readily biodegradable organic compounds for supplementing a biological wastewater treatment process, digester or fermenter.

  • Patent number: 7558967
Abstract: A system for encrypting and decrypting data in a data stream for programming a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The system allows for an enable bit to be set for a gap in the data stream and the data is then encrypted from the beginning of the gap. A gap being bits in said data stream that correspond to unprogrammed addresses of a memory in the field programmable gate array. The data is then decrypted by the FPGA when the bit stream is received and an enable bit is detected in a gap of the data stream.

  • Publication number: 20080140563
Abstract: A loan payment system for chattel includes a disabling unit that can disable the chattel. Receipt of an authorization code prevents the disabling unit from disabling the chattel. A debit server maintains data for users in possession of chattel that includes a communication address, an identifier for a lienholder, and an identifier for the disabling unit. A user tenders payment from a user account to the debit server, which verifies that the user's account has sufficient funds, debits the payment from the user's account, transfers the payment to an account for the lienholder, and requests the authorization code for the disabling unit provided on the user's chattel. A disabling unit server receives the request for the authorization code, determines the authorization code for the disabling unit, and sends the authorization code to the debit server, which sends the authorization code to the communication address.

  • Publication number: 20070296461
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system, method, and apparatus to transmit/receive TMDS signals using general purpose differential transmitter and receivers. In an embodiment, the general purpose differential transmitter and receivers are designed to operate with differential signaling schemes such as LVDS and LVPECL. In one aspect, embodiments according to the present invention enable the re-configuration of existing and fully-characterized LVDS/LVPECL transmitter/receiver cells to support TMDS (using minimal sets of external components). This provides considerable cost and development time savings, thereby allowing the development of products much more expediently. In another aspect, embodiments according to the present invention provide interfacing methods and systems between differential signaling schemes such as LVDS/LVPECL and TMDS.

  • Publication number: 20070193010
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for forming a variable gauge metal sheet into a desired shape, said process comprising: providing a variable gauge metal sheet having a first surface and a second surface, the metal sheet having a thickness measured at any point on the metal sheet as the distance between the first surface and the second surface, the thickness of the metal sheet being different over a first portion of the sheet than over a second portion of the sheet, and forming said metal sheet into a first desired shape by bending the metal sheet about a first fold line, said first fold line extending through both the first portion and the second portion, to bring segments of the first surface of the metal sheet on either side of the first fold line into increased opposition with each other, wherein said bending of the metal sheet is effected by holding the metal sheet on a first clamped side of the first fold line secured between a first clamping die and a second clamping die while applying forces

  • Publication number: 20060224107
Abstract: A method for operating a surgical system including placing a handpiece in an operative relationship with an eye for a surgical procedure. The method also comprises supplying irrigation fluid from an irrigation fluid source to the eye and applying vacuum from an aspiration source to the handpiece in order to aspirate the irrigation fluid from the eye through the handpiece. The method further comprises sensing a value of an occlusion indicating parameter corresponding to an occlusion of the handpiece and, from the sensing of the value, determining a duration of occlusion. The method additionally comprises controlling a controlled system parameter based at least in part on the duration of occlusion.

  • Publication number: 20060224143
Abstract: A method for operating a surgical system including a control unit having a vacuum sensor and/or a flow rate sensor, the method including placing a handpiece in an operative relationship with an eye for a surgical procedure and thereafter supplying irrigation fluid to the handpiece while applying a vacuum to the handpiece to aspirate the irrigation fluid from the eye through the handpiece. During fluid aspiration, a vacuum level and/or flow rate is sensed which corresponds to an occlusion of the handpiece and from the sensed vacuum level and/or flow rate, a duration of the occlusion is determined. In response to the determined duration of occlusion, at least one of the handpiece parameters is varied.
