  • Patent number: 6592648
Abstract: A process of reduction of iron ore and/or waste oxides in the form of agglomerate containing carbonaceous reductant on the hearth of a furnace includes providing a bed of agglomerates on the hearth of a furnace, the bed having a height of at least about 40 mm and having at least four layers of agglomerates. The carbonaceous reductant contains sufficient volatile matter, the volatile matter having a weight of at least about 10% of the weight of the reductant. The bed of agglomerates is heated with a radiant heat source having a temperature of at least about 1450° C. to cause the top of the bed to reach a temperature in the range of 1350° C. to 1530° C. to 1500° C. to reduce iron oxides in the iron ore and/or waste oxides to metallic iron.

  • Publication number: 20030045236
Abstract: The present invention provides a wireless peripheral with inbuilt drivers of a host computer. The host computer has a wireless transmission module capable of transmitting control information to control the peripheral. The wireless peripheral comprises a wireless transmission module, a central processing unit, a database, and a renewal unit. The wireless transmission module can communicate with the wireless transmission module of the computer. The central processing unit is a control center of the whole peripheral. The database stores one or more driver. The renewal unit can store or record new drivers in the database via the host computer. The drivers will always accompany the peripheral. A host computer is not necessary to install drivers from floppy disks or CDs in order to use peripherals, and the trouble of missing the drivers will not arise; hence operations of peripheral achieve the object of “Plug-and-Play” or “Turn-on-and-Play”.

  • Patent number: 6281976
Abstract: A fiber optic fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer diaphragm sensor and method of measurement is provided. A fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer diaphragm sensor (12a, 12b, 12c) includes a base (54a, 54b, 54c) and a diaphragm (52a, 52b, 52c) with an optic fiber (30) coupled under tension between the base (54a, 54b, 54c) and the diaphragm (52a, 52b, 52c). A fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer element (40) is contained within the optic fiber (30) and operates to sense movement of the diaphragm (52a, 52b, 52c). In a particular embodiment, the diaphragm (52a) moves in response to a pressure (P) applied to the diaphragm (52a). In another embodiment, a proof mass (72) is coupled to the diaphragm (52b) such that the diaphragm (52b) moves in response to an acceleration (A). In yet another embodiment, a magnetic body (80) is coupled to the diaphragm (52c) such that the diaphragm (52c) moves in response to a magnetic field (M).

  • Patent number: 6240130
Abstract: A system and method for measuring jitter. One class of embodiments is particularly useful for testing the aperture jitter of a high speed Analog to Digital (A/D) converter. Aperture jitter in a Sample and Hold circuit (S/H) or in an A/D converter introduces noise into the sampled signal, which is more extreme in areas of the input waveform that have a steep positive or negative slope. The preferred embodiment allows an easy and inexpensive way to measure aperture jitter in S/H and A/D circuits. The technique can also be adapted for measuring edge jitter in digital clock signals or in analog sine wave signals.

  • Patent number: 6030592
Abstract: The process of invention provides a simplified conversion of sulfur dioxide gas into hydrogen sulfide gas. First, sulfur dioxide gas is absorbed into an aqueous sulfide solution to form sulfite and bisulfide ions. Second, additional sulfur dioxide gas is absorbed into the aqueous solution to form hydrogen sulfide. Third, another portion of the sulfur dioxide is absorbed and reacts in the aqueous solution to form bisulfite. Most advantageously, the bisulfite is decomposed into sulfur dioxide and sulfite. The sulfite is then reduced to sulfide and returned for use in the absorption process. The hydrogen sulfide may then be reacted with SO.sub.2 via the Claus reaction to form elemental sulfur.

  • Patent number: 4756748
Abstract: A process for the smelting reduction of oxide ores, in particular iron ores, employs a mixture of the finely divided ore with equally finely divided reductant, which in the case of iron ores preferably is a coal. The mixture is fed into the interior of a heated tubular reaction vessel and moved positively through a heated reaction zone by a screw conveyor embedded in the charge. The conveyor breaks away any accretions that stick to the wall before they can build to a size that will stall the conveyor. The particles are in the range 75-1400 micrometers with a preferred size of at least 95% less than 600 micrometers, and the preferred ratio of ore to reductant is in the range of ratios 18:82 to 30:70. The reduced iron can be fed directly into a melting furnace for separation of metal and non-metal, it can be powdered and separated magnetically or it can be briquetted.
