  • Patent number: 10581321
Abstract: A multiplier signal, and multiplier circuits and methods are provided to improve the total harmonic distortion (THD) and power factor (PF) for a flyback type power factor correction (PFC) circuit. The multiplier signal has a “pulled-up” waveshape that is configured to compensate for the “push-down” effect of varying off times of an electronic switch of the PFC on a line current of the PFC. The multiplier circuit is configured to reduce the multiplier signal during a first operational mode of the multiplier circuit and is further configured to maintain a typical multiplier signal during a second operational mode. The first operational mode occurs before a first phase angle and after a second phase angle during each half-cycle of a power source coupled to the PFC circuit. The second operational mode occurs between the first and second phase angles during each half-cycle.

  • Patent number: 10560993
Abstract: A dimming controller is coupled to receive an out-source current from a dimming interface for each LED driver connected thereto. Based on the out-source current received, the controller can estimate the number of connected LED drivers. When the LED driver(s) are determined to be on based on the received out-source current, the dimming controller generates and transmits a dimming control voltage. The dimming controller is programmable with relationships between the dimming control voltage and operational parameters for the certain type of LED driver and the certain type of LED load. The dimming controller then estimates the power characteristics (e.g., the input power and the output power) of the LED driver and associated LED load based on the programmed relationships. Power characteristics can accordingly be reported to the customer via a dimming controller without requiring specifically designed power measuring devices. Driver failure in the group can be reported in real time.

  • Patent number: 10554122
Abstract: A voltage feedback circuit for a power factor correction circuit couples an output voltage to a voltage feedback input terminal of the power factor correction circuit. The voltage feedback circuit includes a first voltage sensing resistor, a second voltage sensing resistor and a third voltage sensing resistor. A stabilization capacitor is connected across the third voltage sensing resistor. During a normal mode of operation, a feedback voltage has a magnitude determined by the first, second and third voltage sensing resistors. When the output voltage increases rapidly, the stabilization capacitor bypasses the increased voltage around the third voltage sensing resistor to cause the magnitude of the feedback voltage to be determined by only the first and second voltage sensing resistors. The power factor correction circuit detects a transient overvoltage condition at a lower output voltage than if the third voltage sensing resistor were not bypassed.

  • Patent number: 10483864
Abstract: A DC-to-AC inverter provides an AC voltage to the primary winding of an output isolation transformer having at least one secondary winding. An AC output voltage from the secondary winding is rectified to generate a DC voltage, which is applied to a load. The current flowing through the load is sensed and compared to a reference magnitude to produce a feedback signal. The feedback signal controls a voltage superposition circuit via an output stage of an optocoupler. The superposition circuit generates a superposition voltage that is applied to a current control circuit, which responds to the superposition voltage to vary a control current to a switching controller, which varies the frequency of the AC voltage to thereby vary the load current. A fault detection circuit senses a short in the output stage of the optocoupler to disable the operation of switching controller to prevent an overvoltage and an overcurrent.
