  • Publication number: 20130043007
Abstract: A condenser with capillarity cooling devices provides a condenser that has a plurality of cooling fins with a wick structure and a plurality of capillary water absorption layers of which the lower section is submerged in the water of a water reservoir provided underneath. Through capillarity and the characteristic of the capillary water absorption layers, water will be brought upward to moisturize the fins. When the water evaporates, a great amount of heat will be extracted from the fins, so as to increase the thermal efficiency of the condenser. Further, a pre-wetting water pipe is included, so that when an air conditioner is switched on and the condenser is started, the pre-wetting water pipe moisturizes the capillary water absorption layers immediately, and such moisture extends to the overall wick structures of fins. This will make evaporation take place instantly and thermal efficiency of condenser is increased.

  • Publication number: 20130006143
Abstract: Among other things, there is disclosed a biopsy needle having a cutting cannula axially slidable over an inner stylet. The inner stylet has a proximal portion connected to a distal portion that includes first and second spaced-apart struts. The distal portion has a tissue penetrating tip and the stylet defines a sample-containment space between the struts having first and second radially opposed lateral openings thereto. The sample-containment space of the stylet readily accepts tissue through either of the lateral openings such that a near full core of tissue can be sampled.

  • Patent number: 8252464
Abstract: A method of forming battery grids or plates that includes the step of mechanically reshaping or refinishing battery grid wires to improve adhesion between the battery paste and the grid wires. The method is particularly useful in improving the past adhesion to battery grids formed by a continuous batter grid making process (such as strip expansion, strip stamping, continuous casting) that produces grid wires and nodes with smooth surfaces and rectangular cross-section. In a preferred version of the method, the grid wires of battery grids produced by a stamping process are deformed such that the grid wires have a cross-section other than the rectangular cross-section produced by the stamping process. The method increases the cycle life of a battery.

  • Patent number: 8153103
Abstract: A new class of photoactivatable dyes provides the ability to study cell-cell communication in live animals non-invasively with high spatiotemporal resolution. The compositions are made up of a macromolecule, a caging group, and a coumarin dye. Upon photolysis, the coumarin dye is released from the macromolecule caging group complex and is freely diffusible in cells and between cells. The compositions are retained in cells very well, having no observable side effects, no susceptibility to metabolism, and the ability to generate bright fluorescence signals after photolysis. Because of their high loading capacity and long cellular retention, they can be selectively uncaged in specific cells.
