  • Publication number: 20120287302
Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving a camera dynamic parameter; determining a reference transform parameter based on the camera dynamic parameter; applying the reference transform parameter to generate a video image; and encoding the reference transform parameter in a bitstream for transmission with the video image. In other more specific instances, the method may include decoding a particular video image; decoding a particular reference transform parameter; and applying a particular reference transform parameter to the particular video image. The entropy-decoded data can undergo inverse quantization and transformation such that reference transformed data is combined with the entropy-decoded data. Additionally, the entropy-decoded data can be subjected to filtering before decoded video images are rendered on a display.

  • Patent number: 8311292
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus may receive at least one image in which multiple targets are represented. The apparatus may assign possible identities to the targets based on probabilities associated with the identities. The apparatus may base a probability of a target being one of the identities, at least in part, on an identity-specific context and on a conditional probability that the target is the identity given that each one of at least two other of the targets is another respective one of the identities. The identity-specific context may be information that relates to a determined identity. The apparatus may identify the targets based on the identities and on the probabilities associated with the identities.

  • Patent number: 8218831
Abstract: Techniques are provided to analyze video frames of a video signal in order to distinguish regions containing a face (and body torso) from regions that contain a relatively static background. The region containing the face is referred to as a foreground region. A current video frame is divided into a plurality of elements and the foreground regions and background regions are detected. The background regions of a subsequent video frame are detected/registered using the foreground regions of the current video frame. The foreground regions of the subsequent video frame are determined using the background regions of the current video frame as a temporal reference.

  • Publication number: 20120148171
Abstract: Coding quantized transform coefficients as occur in image compression to form codewords, and decoding a bitstream comprising the codewords. The coding combines a position identifying method to identify the relative position of clusters of consecutive non-zero-valued quantized transform coefficients, an amplitude event identifying method to identify amplitude events in the clusters of non-zero-valued quantized transform coefficients, and a coding method to code the position events, amplitude events, and signs of the amplitudes in the clusters. The coding method is particularly applicable to an ordered series of quantized transform coefficients where clusters are likely-to-occur.

  • Patent number: 8155942
Abstract: The disclosed methods, systems, and software are described for optimizing well placement in a reservoir field. A geological model of a reservoir field, a grid defining a plurality of cells, one or more wells to be located within the plurality of cells, and an objective function are all provided. The geological model is associated with the grid defining the plurality of cells. The locations of the wells are represented by continuous well location variables associated with a continuous spatial domain. A gradient of the objective function is calculated responsive to the continuous well location variables. The locations of the wells are then adjusted responsive to the calculated gradient of the objective function. Iterative calculation of the gradient and adjustment of the wells continue until the well locations are optimized. A visual representation of the reservoir field can be generated based on the optimized well placements.

  • Patent number: 8135071
Abstract: A method, and apparatus, and logic encoded in one or more computer-readable tangible medium to carry out a method. The method is to code an ordered sequence of quantized transform coefficients of a block of image data using a hybrid coding method that includes determining a breakpoint location in the sequence between a low-frequency region and a high-frequency region; coding the low-frequency region using a selected low-frequency variable length coding method; coding the high-frequency region using a selected high-frequency variable length coding method; and coding the location of the breakpoint. The breakpoint location is determined as a function of properties of neighboring blocks such that little if any information needs to be sent to a decoder about the breakpoint of a block or multi-block partition, and the decoder can use the properties of neighboring blocks to determine the breakpoint used to code a to-be-decoded sequence or sequences of a block or a multi-block partition.

  • Publication number: 20120059641
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product is disclosed for utilizing proxy models to evaluate a subterranean reservoir. The method includes constructing a proxy model from a set of sampling points to approximate simulation outputs of a reservoir model. The set of sampling points is updated by adding at least one new sampling point that is selected from a location associated with surface non-linearities such as gradients, curvature, and bending energy. Response surface values at new sampling points and distances to existing sampling points can also be used to evaluate new sampling points. Proxy models are refined with the updated set of sampling points until the proxy model satisfies a predetermined stopping criterion, such as when a predetermined number of iterations are reached or when changes to the response surface are below a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 8126062
Abstract: A method, and apparatus, and logic encoded in one or more computer-readable tangible medium to carry out a method. The method is to code a plurality of ordered sequences of quantized transform coefficients of a corresponding plurality of blocks of image data using a hybrid coding method that includes determining a breakpoint location in the sequence between a low frequency region and a high frequency region; coding the low-frequency region using a selected low-frequency variable length coding method; coding the high-frequency region using a selected high-frequency variable length coding method; and coding the location of the breakpoint. The plurality of blocks include adjacent blocks and form a multi-block partition. The breakpoint location is determined as a function of the sequences of the multi-block partition such that different multi-block partitions can have different breakpoints.

  • Patent number: 8121427
Abstract: A method, and apparatus, and logic encoded in one or more computer-readable tangible medium to carry out a method of determining a breakpoint position in an ordered sequence of quantized transform coefficients of a block of image data for a hybrid variable length coding the ordered sequence. The breakpoint location in the sequence is between a low-frequency region and a high-frequency region. The hybrid variable length coding method includes coding the low-frequency region using a selected low-frequency variable length coding method; coding the high-frequency region using a selected high-frequency variable length coding method; and coding the position in the sequence of the breakpoint. The breakpoint location is determining uses a relatively simple and fast method based on pre-defined cost criteria. A method is included that instead of coding the breakpoint separately, codes the breakpoint jointly with coefficient events.

  • Patent number: 8120907
Abstract: An airflow guiding and heat dissipating assembly is mounted in an electronic device and has a base and at least one baffle being mounted on the base. Multiple electronic components are mounted on the base and are arranged in a line. Airflow flows along one electronic component upstream, past the baffle and then over the other electronic component downstream to take away heat from the electronic component. The baffle prevents the airflow from becoming turbulent and, therefore, temperatures of the electronic component are lowered efficiently.
