  • Patent number: 5766871
Abstract: A method of screening for a given enzyme in colony-forming cells using a substrate of the enzyme that has low solubility. Use of such a method leads to the discovery of glutaryl-7-aminocephalosporanic acid (GL-7-ACA) acylase of Pseudomonas nitroreducens. Also disclosed is a method of obtaining GL-7-ACA acylase from Pseudomonas cells.

  • Patent number: 5597704
Abstract: A method of converting cephalosporin C to glutaryl-7-aminocephalosporanic acid. The method including obtaining a cell preparation from a microorganism which produces D-amino acid oxidase, the preparation being a cell-free extract or a suspension of permeated cells; adding a D-.alpha.-amino acid to the preparation; after the adding step, heating the preparation at 50.degree.-75.degree. C. for 5-60 minutes; and incubating cephalosporin C in the preparation. Also disclosed are a method of converting cephalosporin C to glutaryl-7-aminocephalosporanic acid in the absence of exogenous H.sub.2 O.sub.2, and a method of screening for a D-amino acid oxidase-producing microorganism.

  • Patent number: 5014784
Abstract: A method for stimulating production of hydrocarbons from multilayered heavy oil formations starts with injecting high quality steam through a first group of wells into the lower most level. Hydrocarbon product generated by the steamflooding are extracted by a second group of wells while the steamflooding preheats the bottom of the second lowermost layer. The second group of wells are then used to inject steam into the second layer and a portion of the first group of wells are used for production from this level. The function of the groups of wells continues to alternate with each successive level while the number of wells used in each group decreases thereby increasing the areal sweep.

  • Patent number: 4295865
Abstract: A method for removing dust and noxious materials from flue gases within a tall chimney through which the dust can be collected efficiently without increasing the operating cost of the boiler. A spraying device assembly is adapted to be mounted in a vertical portion of a chimney so as to save space.
