  • Patent number: 11258489
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide additional MAC functionality to support the PHY features of a wireless communication system framework. The additional MAC functionality aids in enabling feedback from wireless terminals to base stations. In some aspects of the invention the feedback is provided on an allocated feedback channel. In other aspects of the invention the feedback is provided by MAC protocol data units (PDU) in a header, mini-header, or subheader. The feedback may be transmitted from the wireless terminal to the base station autonomously by the wireless terminal or in response to an indication from the base station that feedback is requested. Aspects of the invention also provide for allocating feedback resources to form a dedicated feedback channel. One or more of these enhancements is included in a given implementation. Base stations and wireless terminals are also described upon which methods described herein can be implemented.

  • Patent number: 11245442
Abstract: The present invention provides a long-distance (e.g. satellite-to-ground) wireless communication method and apparatus. Two-dimensional antenna arrays are operated pairwise to produce interleaved groupings of beams which are elongated in one direction and aligned in another direction. These groupings of beams can be provided using fixed analog beamforming arrays. An active beamformer can be used to form beams which are directed within each grouping of beams. Different ports of the analog beamforming arrays can be operated to produce beams in different groupings, or different bi-sector beams within a same grouping. A simplified parametric-based channel state information precoding operation using direction of arrival for MIMO processing is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20220036171
Abstract: A multi-beam transmission method is provided for transmitting using an N-beam transmitter to a receiver having K receive beams. In the transmitter, a non-linear encoder implemented by a machine learning block, and a linear encoder are trained using gradient descent back propagation that relies on feedback from the receiver. For each input to be transmitted the machine learning block is used to process the input to produce N/K sets of L outputs. The linear encoder is used to perform linear encoding on each set of L outputs to produce a respective set of K outputs so as to produce N/K sets of K encoded outputs overall and N encoded outputs overall. One of the N/K sets of K outputs from each set of K beams.

  • Patent number: 11223397
Abstract: The present invention employs a pilot scheme for frequency division multiple access (FDM) communication systems, such as single carrier FDM communication systems. A given transmit time interval will include numerous traffic symbols and two or more short pilot symbols, which are spaced apart from one another by at least one traffic symbol and will have a Fourier transform length that is less than the Fourier transform length of any given traffic symbol. Multiple transmitters will generate pilot information and modulate the pilot information onto sub-carriers of the short pilot symbols in an orthogonal manner. Each transmitter may use different sub-carriers within the time and frequency domain, which is encompassed by the short pilot symbols within the transmit time interval. Alternatively, each transmitter may uniquely encode the pilot information using a unique code division multiplexed code and modulate the encoded pilot information onto common sub-carriers of the short pilot symbols.

  • Patent number: 11184119
Abstract: Aspects of this disclosure provide a technique for implementing polar encoding with incremental redundancy HARQ re-transmission. In particular, a transmitter encodes a message using different polar codes to obtain a first codeword and a second codeword that is twice the length of the first codeword, and transmit the first codeword as an original transmission, and the second half of the second codeword as a re-transmission without transmitting the first half of the second codeword. Information bits that are common to both the first codeword and the second half of the second codeword is mapped to more-reliable bit-locations in the second half of the second codeword. Decoded bit values for the common information in the original transmission and retransmission is compared by the receiver to perform a parity check.

  • Publication number: 20210319010
Abstract: A computing device functions as a member of a distributed database system implemented using a wireless network. A member version of a chain graph is stored at the computing device. The chain graph includes events created by the computing device and events received through the wireless network from other computing devices that are members of the distributed database system. The computing device determines if it is a member of a voting committee that comprises only a subset of the computing devices that are members of the distributed database system. When the computing device is a member of a voting committee, it participates in a distributed consensus algorithm with other members of the voting committee using the wireless network to define an order of the events in the chain graph and stores that order as a new event in the member version of the chain graph.
