  • Patent number: 8825063
Abstract: A wireless user device maintains wireless access via a public land mobile network and, while maintaining such wireless access, participates with one or more other devices in an instant communication session delivered via a carrier instant communications processing element of the public land mobile network. The session communications from the wireless user device are routed through a processing element of a private communication network for an assignment of a generic identifier to the session communications in place of a user identifier of the wireless user device, and then routed back to the public land mobile network to the carrier instant communications processing element for delivery to the one or more other devices in the instant communication session.

  • Publication number: 20140242984
Abstract: Electronic devices may be provided that contain wireless communication circuitry. The wireless communication circuitry may include radio-frequency transceiver circuitry coupled to antennas. An electronic device may include a baseband processor and other storage and processing circuitry that implements protocol stacks for handling multiple radio access technologies. The storage and processing circuitry may use the transceiver circuitry to convey data using a first radio access technology while periodically interrupting the conveying of the data to monitor a paging channel using a second radio access technology. In performing the paging channel monitoring operations, the storage and processing circuitry may enforce a time limit that ensures that operations using the first radio access technology are not disrupted more than desired.

  • Patent number: 8792888
Abstract: A single chip mobile wireless device capable of receiving and transmitting over one wireless network at a time maintains registration on two wireless communication networks that each use different communication protocols in parallel. Periodically, the mobile wireless device tunes one or more receivers from a first wireless network to a second wireless network in order to listen for paging messages addressed to the mobile wireless device from the second wireless network. The first wireless network suspends allocation of radio resources to the mobile wireless device based on receipt of a suspension message from the mobile wireless device, or based on knowledge of a paging cycle for mobile wireless device in the second wireless network, or based on detection of an out of synchronization condition with the mobile wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20140204737
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that processes network packets. Upon receiving a first Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) header for a first TCP segment from a network link, the system immediately provides a portion of the first TCP header to a transport layer prior to receiving all payload data for the first TCP segment. Next, the system uses the transport layer to transmit a first acknowledgment of the first TCP segment to the network link, wherein the first acknowledgment reduces a round-trip time (RTT) associated with the first TCP segment.

  • Patent number: 8787835
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forced cell/RAT reselection is disclosed. In one embodiment, a cellular mobile communication device may attempt to access a network through a serving cell. Responsive to determining that access to the network is barred through the serving cell, the mobile communication device may determine if another cell is available through which it may obtain access to the network. If another cell providing network access is available, the mobile communication device may force reselection from the serving cell to the new cell. If no other cell providing access to the network is available to the mobile communication device, a forced reselection of a radio access technology may be performed.

  • Publication number: 20140199975
Abstract: Management of unwanted phone calls and/or text messages can be performed by allowing a user to create a personalized list of unwanted calls and/or text messages at the user's device and synchronizing that personalized list between a storage system in the user's device and a remote storage in a network to which the device can be coupled. In one embodiment, the remote storage can be a cloud based backup system for the user's contacts and content and the user can access a full list of the unwanted phone numbers through a web server but the full list is not accessible on the device except through a web browser that retrieves the full list from the web server.

  • Publication number: 20140073366
Abstract: Avoiding conflicts between radio access technologies (RATs) in a device configured to operate according to multiple RATs. The device may be operated in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode according to each of a first RAT and a second RAT using a shared radio. It may be determined that a conflicting wakeup time is scheduled according to DRX cycles of the first and second RATs. A subscriber identity of the device may be changed in response to determining that a conflicting wakeup time is scheduled according to DRX cycles of the first and second RATs.

  • Publication number: 20140066061
Abstract: A multi-mode communication device having a scan optimizer capable of prioritizing scan frequencies for different radio access technologies (RATs) during a network search. The scan frequency prioritization may be based on various network coverage considerations associated with RAT availability, RAT density within a region, geographic location, historic attachment for the multi-mode device, an operation mode of the multi-mode device, etc. The multimode device can utilize its scan optimizer to generate an optimized scan schedule to be employed for a limited duration during a network search to improve its likelihood of success in detecting and/or attaching to a network associated with a prioritized RAT. A default scan schedule having equal scan frequency prioritization can be employed by the multi-mode device at a time when the limited duration of the optimized scan schedule expires and no networks associated with a prioritized RAT have been acquired.

  • Publication number: 20140064165
Abstract: In video conferencing over a radio network, the radio equipment is a major power consumer especially in cellular networks such as LTE. In order to reduce the radio power consumption in video conferencing, it is important to introduce an enough radio inactive time. Several types of data buffering and bundling can be employed within a reasonable range of latency that doesn't significantly disrupt the real-time nature of video conferencing. In addition, the data transmission can be synchronized to the data reception in a controlled manner, which can result in an even longer radio inactive time and thus take advantage of radio power saving modes such as LTE C-DRX.

  • Publication number: 20140018079
Abstract: A method for assisting a wireless communication device to return to a first network from a second network subsequent to termination of a voice call for which a Circuit Switched Fallback procedure was performed to transition from the first network to the second network for servicing of the voice call is provided. The method can include preventing transmission of a data flow for a data service after termination of the voice call. The method can further include searching for the first network while transmission of the data flow is prevented. If the first network is found, the method can additionally include reverting to the first network and servicing the data service on the first network. If the first network is not found, the method can also include remaining on the second network and servicing the data service on the second network.
