  • Publication number: 20140018075
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forced cell/RAT reselection is disclosed. In one embodiment, a cellular mobile communication device may attempt to access a network through a serving cell. Responsive to determining that access to the network is barred through the serving cell, the mobile communication device may determine if another cell is available through which it may obtain access to the network. If another cell providing network access is available, the mobile communication device may force reselection from the serving cell to the new cell. If no other cell providing access to the network is available to the mobile communication device, a forced reselection of a radio access technology may be performed.

  • Patent number: 8626094
Abstract: It has now been found that in some transmitter implementations which transmit multiple code channels, for example CDMA transmitters, the observed power for each code channel at the output relative to the other code channels is dependent upon the total transmit power due to non-linearities in the transmitter. Methods and apparatus are provided which use pre-set digital gains or digital gain adjustments to compensate for the non-linearities as a function of total transmit power such that at the output, the desired relative powers are observed.

  • Publication number: 20130344910
Abstract: Maintaining communication of a wireless device and using a plurality of wireless communication technologies. A first paging message schedule may be determined for maintaining communication between the wireless device and a first base station associated with a first wireless communication technology. Similarly, a second paging message schedule may be determined for maintaining communication between the wireless device and a second base station associated with a second wireless technology. Additionally, a scheduling conflict may be determined between the first paging message schedule and the second paging message schedule. Accordingly, communication with the first base station may be switched to a third base station using the first wireless technology in response to determining that there is a scheduling conflict.

  • Publication number: 20130331137
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to mitigate interference among multiple wireless subsystems of a wireless communication device are described. A host processor obtains configurations for a plurality of wireless subsystems and evaluates whether potential or actual coexistence interference exists between two or more of the wireless subsystems. The host processor provides configuration information and link quality reporting parameters to and obtains link quality reports from at least two wireless subsystems. When link quality for at least one wireless subsystem fails a set of link quality conditions, the host processor adjusts data requirements for applications that communicate through one or more of the wireless subsystems and/or adjusts radio frequency operating conditions for one or more of the wireless subsystems to mitigate interference among the wireless subsystems.

Abstract: A method for delaying network reselection by a wireless communication device following a call failure is provided. The method can include determining an initiation of a voice call while connected to a first network. The method can further include participating in a circuit switched fallback (CSFB) procedure to transition from the first network to a second network in response to initiation of the voice call. The method can additionally include determining an occurrence of a call failure of the voice call. The method can also include, responsive to the call failure, barring reselection to the first network for a threshold barring period.

  • Publication number: 20130260758
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for synchronizing operational state during hybrid network operation. In one embodiment, the various access technologies that makeup the hybrid network not fully synchronized. Thus, a wireless device operating in a mixed mode must be capable of managing synchronization across multiple access technologies. The wireless device is configured to estimate an expected “tune-away” period when disengaging with a one access technology to address events (for example, link maintenance, calls, data, and the like) or perform monitoring on a second access technology. The estimate is then used by the device to adjust its operational parameters on the technology from which it is tuning away. This ensures smooth switching away from and back to the various network technologies.

  • Patent number: 8406147
Abstract: According to the embodiments of the techniques of this application, a wireless data device or other data node sends solicitation messages periodically to a wireless gateway, such as a PDSN, when there is no data traffic between the wireless data device and a wireless data network. Each solicitation message resets the simple IP inactivity timer on the wireless gateway. When multiple wireless data devices send solicitation messages, the interval between subsequent transmissions of solicitation messages is randomized to reduce the probability of collision with the solicitations from other devices on the same wireless link. The solicitation timer, for instance, may be based on the simple IP inactivity timer setting on the wireless network, and the number of wireless data devices that the wireless data network serves. Expiration of the solicitation timer at the wireless data device or other data node causes the next solicitation message to be sent from or on behalf of the wireless data device.

  • Patent number: 8380236
Abstract: Techniques involving a wireless user device adapted to operate in a carrier network, and associated with a private organization having a private communication network which is not part of the carrier network, are described. The wireless user device gains wireless access via the carrier network and communicates, via the carrier network, with other wireless user devices in a push-to-talk (PTT) voice communication session. The PTT voice communication session is delivered via a carrier processing element of the carrier network, where voice communications of the PTT voice communication session are routed and processed through a private processing element of the private communication network. The voice communications from the wireless user device are assigned and communicated with a generic identifier of the private organization instead of a user identifier of the wireless user device.
