The desired value (rlmd$s) defines a maximum value for the air charge in the combustion chamber which is not exceeded.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for computing a fuel-metering signal for adjusting a pregiven lambda value for the composition of the air/fuel mixture of an internal combustion engine. In the method, a first signal is formed which represents the air quantity flowing into the engine and a second signal is formed on the basis of the first signal so that a first lambda desired value adjusts when using its second signal as a fuel-metering signal. Various additional second lambda desired values are formed as a function of operating parameters of the engine. A selection is made of those second lambda desired values having the highest priority and the fuel-metering signal is formed by weighting the second signal with the second lambda desired value of the highest priority.

    Abstract: A device for load detection with altitude adaptation is described, wherein the load is determined based on an altitude-dependent main load signal and a collateral load signal not dependent on the altitude. In connection with defined driving conditions it is possible to detect an altitude deviation by comparison of the main load signal with the collateral load signal. The result of the comparison is integrated in an integrator with a variable time constant to form an adaptation factor, by means of which the collateral load signal is then corrected. The time constant of the integrator is changed in such a way that an altitude adaptation takes place as a function of the maximally possible altitude error.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a connecting circuit for a potential-free lambda probe having a ground line and a signal line and having an offset voltage source which is connected to the ground line. This offset voltage source raises the potential of the ground line to a pregiven value relative to ground. A ground short is directly detectable in the connecting circuit of the invention in that the potential measured at the signal line drops below the offset voltage. In this way, it is no longer required as in conventional circuits to check for a ground short by enriching the mixture of an engine and to monitor the exhaust gas with the lambda probe.
