  • Patent number: 4517092
Abstract: Decanter-type separating apparatus comprising within a rotatably mounted tapered and cylindrical barrel a solids-transporting screw rotating at a speed different from the barrel speed, the aforesaid apparatus being characterized by the screw having in an intensive clarification region a pitch substantially greater than used in the past, to stabilize the flow as far as possible and to obtain particularly effective and efficient clarification. In the intensive clarification region, the pitch is much greater than ten degrees and preferrably is within a range of forty to fifty degrees, in certain cases on the order of up to sixty degrees.

  • Patent number: 4516763
Abstract: The leaders of successive topmost sheets of a stack of sheets are lifted by a set of aligned suction cups which move each leader into a horizontal plane including the nip of two advancing rolls. The suction cups insert the leading edge of each leader into the nip and continue to adhere to the leader while the latter is advanced by the rolls so that the leader pulls the suction cups against the opposition of a weak spring tending to move the suction cups and their mobile support to a starting position. The drive for the advancing rolls is thereupon arrested for an interval of time which suffices to ensure the collapse of suction in the cups by arresting the suction pump and by simultaneously opening a valve which connects the interior of each cup with the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4509736
Abstract: Apparatus for transferring sheets from a relatively wide or relatively narrow stack of sheets into a transporting device has a pair of suction cups which engage the leader of the topmost sheet in the stack and turn it through 90.degree. so that the leader becomes separated from the leader of the sheet therebelow. The suction cups are thereupon raised to the level of the nips of driven advancing rolls in the transporting device to move the leader into a plane which includes the nips and is parallel to the planes of sheets in the stack, and such leader is introduced into the nips so that the advancing rolls engage the leader while the latter becomes detached from the suction cups.

  • Patent number: 4402576
Abstract: An adjusting device for the specimen stage of an optical instrument such as a microscope or vernier measuring instrument comprising a pair of superposed slides mounted for movement in two mutually perpendicular coordinate directions perpendicular to the optical axis of the instrument with coaxial drive means for effecting fine adjustments of the positions of the slides and with a single, common release mechanism for simultaneously disengaging both drive means to facilitate rapid manual displacement of the slides to an approximate desired position.

  • Patent number: 4305820
Abstract: A disk-filter apparatus in which a filter disk is rotatable about a horizontal axis and lies substantially in a vertical plane to collect filter cakes on opposite sides of the disk. The filter cakes are each treated with a liquid from an array of ducts parallel to the filter cake and from which the liquid is distributed onto the filter cake. The ducts of each array are supplied at least in part through overflow boxes or weirs to control the pressure. The number of openings, spacing of the ducts and opening size are all selected to obtain the most homogeneous distribution of liquid onto the filter cakes that is possible.

  • Patent number: 4298167
Abstract: A mist generator particularly for spraying pesticides on plants includes at least two exhaust nozzles from which generated mist is emitted from the mist generator, the nozzles being jointly fed by a common pulsating combustion chamber and extending in generally opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 4292177
Abstract: A rotary filter has a pressure vessel and a rotor from which a plurality of filter cells are suspended from outer portions of the rotor so that they clear a conveyor located proximal to the axis of rotation and upon which the filter cake is removed. Conduits are connected to the filter cells from a single distribution head for initially evacuating the cells in the filter stage and thereafter pressurizing the cells to dislodge the filter cake while the vessel remains under pressure. The filter cells can have the filter surfaces extending generally in axial planes or in axially spaced relationship in planes wherein a plurality of angularly spaced filters extend generally radially from respective filtrate conduits running axially along the outer part of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4264427
Abstract: Latent images on sheet-like carriers are developd by attracting that side of a carrier which faces away from the image to the convex external surface of a first support which constitutes a portion of or an entire hollow drum and is rotatable in at least one direction. A concavo-convex electrode is outwardly adjacent to and spaced apart from the path of movement of the carrier on the first support and can be mounted directly on the first support or on a discrete second support which is coaxial with and can be rotated with as well as relative to the first support. The electrode and the carrier define an arcuate developing chamber of constant width which receives a supply of developing liquid when the one and/or the other support is rotated to place the carrier into register with the electrode or to simultaneously rotate the carrier and the electrode to a position in which the developing liquid can flow downwardly and into the developing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4257347
Abstract: The intensity of development of latent images on dielectric receptor sheets in a liquid bath which contains a dispersion of toner particles and fills a vessel between two electrodes one of which supports a sheet in such a way that the latent image faces the other sheet is regulated by measuring the current which flows between the electrodes in response to insertion of a fresh sheet between the electrodes, comparing the measured result with a preselected reference value, and evacuating the bath from the vessel to thereby terminate the development when the ratio of measured result to the reference value is one-to-one or another preselected ratio.

  • Patent number: 4193875
Abstract: A multi-disk rotary filter in which a plurality of disks on a common shaft are partly immersed in a trough containing the suspension to be filtered and each of the filter disks is formed with a plurality of filter sectors or cells each connected to a control disk through which the filtrate is evacuated. According to the invention, each disk is formed with a cell carrier with a radial passage communicating with each sector and merging into an axial passage. The axially extending passages of at least some of the disks are formed at least in part by straight tube sections outwardly of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 3947856
Abstract: A bath container for liquid treatment of a photographic emulsion carrier has a refill bottle which automatically adds fresh liquid to maintain the liquid level. An overflow maintains the maximum liquid level. A pump having an intake as far removed as possible from the refill bottle serves to circulate the liquid. It further serves to forceably remove liquid from the container corresponding to the quantity of emulsion carrier processed. The signal signifying the quantity of processed emulsion carrier is furnished by a selector switch while scanning the emulsion carrier and connects a capacitor to a constant current source in the presence of the emulsion carrier and to a discharge circuit, in turn connected to circuits which energize the exhaust pump operation, in the absence of the emulsion carrier. Further circuits directly connected to the capacitor serve to energize the exhaust pump operation when the voltage across the capacitor has reached a predetermined voltage.
