  • Publication number: 20080273442
Abstract: A method is described for recording information on a multi-layered optical disc (2), the disc comprising two storage spaces (LO, L1) in adjacent storage layers (40, 41). Data to be recorded are received from a source. On recording, the data are organized to form cells (35), each cell corresponding to a certain amount of data. The cells are first recorded in the first storage space (LO) until the last storage address (N) of the first storage space, and then the recording process makes a transition to the first storage address (N+1) of the second storage space. The size of the last cell to be recorded in the first storage space is determined in relationship to the size of the remainder part (R) of the first storage space, such that the transition from the first storage space to the second storage space corresponds to a cell boundary (34).

  • Publication number: 20080226067
Abstract: Current legislation requires the possibility of encryption when storing television programmes received by broadcast. However, legacy playback apparatuses will not be able to play back such encrypted data in a regular way, but possibly in a wrong way. This may result in problems like damage of speakers. Therefore, the application intends to hide any of such possibly damaging streams by intentionally providing such streams with a wrong identification during the encryption process. The application provides among others a method and circuit for encryption and a method and circuit for decryption. The application is especially suitable for DVD recorders, but may also be employed for other video and/or audio recorders. The invention may even be used for encrypting non-audiovisual data.

  • Publication number: 20070294473
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for a playback sequence on an optical disc (100) for controlling access to information (107). The optical disc comprises a navigation structure (104) and content (103). The navigation structure (104) comprises conditional commands, which comprise preconditions. Depending on the precondition, a player always acts (109) to the conditional command in a way predefined in an applicable optical disc standard. The method is able to recognize special preconditions inside conditional commands, so called preset preconditions (111). A player comprising the method can be instructed to act in a different (113) than the predefined way to the conditional command comprising preset preconditions. Implementing conditional commands comprising preset preconditions on an optical disc, results in a behavior of a player comprising the method being different from a player not comprising the method. This can be used to control access to information (107) on the disc (100).

  • Publication number: 20070230299
Abstract: There is described a method of partitioning data on a data carrier arranged to be a write-once item. The method comprises a first step of writing video data content to a first region of the carrier, a second step of writing other data content to a second region of the carrier, and a third step writing substantially mutually independent first and second directories for recording data layouts of their corresponding first and second regions respectively, for example during finalisation. Such partitioning of the video data content and other data content, for example still picture data, is of benefit in rendering the data carrier, for example implemented as a DVD R data carrier, more compatible with other data carrier formats, for example DVD RW.

  • Publication number: 20070097812
Abstract: A method of recording information stores information on a multilayer record carrier of an opposte track path type (OTP). Logically the OTP disc has a single recording area, but physically a first part (54) is located on layer 0 (L0) and a second part (57) on layer 1 (L1). For recording a first amount ofdata dollowed by a second, larger, amount of data, the size of the first part is adapted to be at least equal to a data size of the second part by recording at least most of the first amount of data in the first part, including a filling area (49) in the first part, and recording at least most of the second amount of data in the second part. This has the advantage that a different amount of data can be accommodated on both layers, while a layer jump is easy.
