  • Publication number: 20100091749
Abstract: A system and method for implementing transmission parameter control at a transmitting station is described. The exemplary system and method comprises querying a transmission parameter control module for a transmission schedule. The transmission schedule comprises at least one schedule entry defining a set of transmission parameter controls as they pertain to a destination address. At least one packet of data is then transmitted to the destination address according to the transmission parameters controls of at least one schedule entry from the transmission schedule. A system and method for selecting an antenna configuration corresponding to a next transmission of packet data is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20100076098
Abstract: Composition embraces a fire retardant coating formulation that intumesces at a low temperature. The composition can be in a form of a paint, for instance, having as a primary fire retardant ingredient an ammonium phosphate and also having as a low-temperature intumescent agent an expandable graphite powder or flake. A temperature of intumescence can be substantially below 400° C. or thereabout, and it may have more than one temperature of intumescence. Such a composition can be made by contacting a fire retardant formulation, optionally with another active agent, with a low-temperature intumescencent agent under conditions sufficient to form the composition; it can be used by contacting it with a substrate, which may be otherwise flammable. Another aspect is the composition or its residue in combination with the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20100053010
Abstract: A horizontally polarized antenna array allows for the efficient distribution of RF energy into a communications environment through selectable antenna elements and redirectors that create a particular radiation pattern such as a substantially omnidirectional radiation pattern. In conjunction with a vertically polarized array, a particular high-gain wireless environment may be created such that one environment does not interfere with other nearby wireless environments and avoids interference created by those other environments. Lower gain patterns may also be created by using particular configurations of a horizontal and/or vertical antenna array. In a preferred embodiment, the antenna systems disclosed herein are utilized in a multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) wireless environment.

  • Publication number: 20100008343
Abstract: Mechanisms for wireless local area network coverage enhancement using dynamic antennas are provided. The dynamic antennas may be used, for example, in an antenna apparatus of an access point. The access point maps a plurality of virtual access points (VAPs), each VAP corresponding to at least one of a plurality of directional antenna patterns of the antenna apparatus. The processor transmits broadcast communication on each of the VAPs a further distance from the access point as compared to transmitting on an omnidirectional antenna pattern of the antenna apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20090301001
Abstract: Fire resistance can be rated for building structure by providing or having made available, and applying or noting application or presence of fire control agent(s) to or with component part(s) of the structure; providing a fire resistance rating format of a comparative structure; and comparing for a fire resistance classification rating (FRCR). • Patent number: 7482395
Abstract: Intumescent fire retardant latex paint has a mold inhibitor in an amount sufficient to kill, control, or prevent growth of mold, mildew or fungus after the intumescent fire retardant latex paint having mold inhibitor is applied to, and dried and reached a constant mass on a substrate. The paint can be in a form of a finish paint or primer. For example, the mold may be toxic black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum), and the mold inhibitor may be alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride as an 80% by weight mixture added at about 3% by weight of a base fire retardant latex paint formulation. Such a paint can be made by contacting latex paint-forming ingredients with a fire retardant and a mold inhibitor, under conditions sufficient to form the paint; and can be used by contacting it with a substrate under conditions sufficient to be flame retardant or mold inhibitory, or both. An article of manufacture can include, in combination, the paint having the mold inhibitor, or its residue, and the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20080291098
Abstract: An antenna apparatus comprises selectable antenna elements including a plurality of dipoles and/or a plurality of slot antennas (“slot”). Each dipole and/or each slot provides gain with respect to isotropic. The dipoles may generate vertically polarized radiation and the slots may generate horizontally polarized radiation. Each antenna element may have one or more loading structures configured to decrease the footprint (i.e., the physical dimension) of the antenna element and minimize the size of the antenna apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7433593
Abstract: A method, system and egress switching node for maintaining a network connection in an optical network reduces the number of spans needed for reestablishing a network connection. The invention learns which channels are used by the network connection and propagates such channel assignment data to the switching nodes for storage therein. When a span failure occurs, a notification is sent to the switching nodes identifying which span has failed. The switch nodes use the notification and channel assignment data to perform protection switching such that the rerouted network connection selects the channel that was used by the network connection on the failed span. Likewise, the egress switching node uses the selected channel to drop the network connection from the protecting fibers. This enables a network connection to travel a shorter distance after a protection switch.

  • Publication number: 20080070509
Abstract: A system and method for improving radio performance through automatic channel selection utilizing a closed-channel model is disclosed. A measurement engine records maximum user throughput on a per station basis during normal traffic operation. The measurement engine further records throughput metrics based on test traffic sent to all associated stations during idle operation. A policy logic engine utilizes the measurements to determine an optimal transmission channel for transmission and receipt of data.

  • Publication number: 20070293178
Abstract: Modulation of a DC voltage to communicate from an antenna controller to a configurable antenna is disclosed. The DC voltage may communicate to both data and power circuits within the configurable antenna. The antenna controller and configurable antenna may be coupled by two electrical conductors over which both the modulated DC voltage and a radio frequency (RF) signal are communicated. By communicating both the RF signal and configuration data over the same two wire conductor, the configuration data can be communicated through a legacy RF connection in the antenna controller.

  • Publication number: 20070218953
Abstract: A circuit board for wireless communications includes communication circuitry for modulating and/or demodulating a radio frequency (RF) signal and an antenna apparatus for transmitting and receiving the RF signal, the antenna apparatus having selectable antenna elements located near one or more peripheries of the circuit board. A first antenna element produces a first directional radiation pattern; a second antenna element produces a second directional radiation pattern offset from the first radiation pattern. The antenna elements may include one or more reflectors configured to provide gain and broaden the frequency response of the antenna element. A switching network couples one or more of the selectable elements to the communication circuitry and provides impedance matching regardless of which or how many of the antenna elements are selected.
