Abstract: A method for safe controller switching of a steering column of an autonomous vehicle is provided. The method comprises controlling the steering column using a first steering controller, wherein the first steering controller comprises a first fault detector, detecting a fault in the first steering controller using the first fault detector, communicating the detected fault of the first steering controller to the second steering controller, determining a transition time, within which control of the steering column is completely transferred from the first steering controller to a second steering controller. The method gradually transfers control of the steering column from the first steering controller to the second steering controller, wherein during the transition time control of the steering column is shared by the first steering controller and the second steering controller, and wherein after the transition time is expired, the steering controller is completely controlled by the second steering column.

  • Publication number: 20250102679
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide for controlling behaviors of autonomous vehicles based on evaluation of sensors of those vehicles. For instance, sensor data including distance and intensity information for a point in an environment of an autonomous vehicle may be received. An expected intensity value from a pre-stored fair weather reference map may be identified based on a location of the point. An effective detection range for the sensor may be dynamically determined based on the expected intensity and the intensity information for the point. A behavior of the autonomous vehicle may be controlled based on the effective detection range.

  • Publication number: 20250102744
Abstract: Technologies for fiber array unit (FAU) lid designs are disclosed. In one embodiment, channels in the lid allow for suction to be applied to fibers that the lid covers, pulling the fibers into place in a V-groove. The suction can hold the fibers in place as the fiber array unit is mated with a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) die. Additionally or alternatively, channels can be on pitch, allowing for pulling the FAU towards a PIC die as well as sensing the position and alignment of the FAU to the PIC die. In another embodiment, a warpage amount of a PIC die is characterized, and a FAU lid with a similar warpage is fabricated, allowing for the FAU to position fibers correctly relative to waveguides in the PIC die. In another embodiment, a FAU has an extended lid, which can provide fiber protection as well as position and parallelism tolerance control.
