Patent number: 6495140Abstract: A process is described for the isolation, recovery and purification of non-polar extractives using one or more extracting solvents from the group of lower alcohols, ketones, and water. The non-polar extractives may include one or more of the classes alk(en)lyresorcinols, steroid, triterpenoid and cardiac glycosides and saponins, steryl ferulates and other phenolic acid conjugates, flavoroids, polar lipids, alcohol-soluble antimicrobials, prolamines and other alcohol-soluble proteolipids complexes. The process uses an aliphatic-substituted polysaccharide gel matrix in a process of hydrophobic interaction chromatography, and involves the steps of absorption, washing and recovery, wherein the extractives are absorbed and desorbed in the presence of and as a result of the concentration and selection of the organic ste of regenerating the gel matrix for further use.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2000Date of Patent: December 17, 2002Assignee: Her Majesty in right of Canada as represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food CanadaInventors: F. Publication number: 20010054209Abstract: A method for dyeing cellulosic materials with reactive dye by pretreating the fabric with a polycationic polymeric agent which is desirably also polynucleophilic is disclosed. The agent can be a polyquaternary amine material especially a poly(DADMAC) or polyvinylpyridine, particularly one including nucleophilic sites such as primary amino groups, e.g. polyallylamine/DADMAC copolymers and polyvinylpyridines quaternisied with w-aminoalkyl groups. The dyes can react with the nucleophilic centres so dyebath exhaustion can be driven by dye fixation rather than substantivity to the substrate. The need to use of salts to drive substantivity can be obviated and post dyeing washing to remove unreacted/hydrolysed dye is much simplified. Material dyed by the method has the good wash fastness properties of materials dyed using reactive dyes. A wide variety of cellulosic substrates can be dyed including lyocell fibre materials and blend/union materials with polyamides.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 1999Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventors: GEOFFREY WILLIAM COLLINS, STEPHEN MARTIN BURKINSHAW, ROY GORDON

Patent number: 6200354Abstract: A method of dyeing cellulosic fibers or fabrics using pre-metallized acid dye by pretreating the fabric with a cationic agent having a plurality of cationic centers and optionally after treating the dyed material with a cationic polymer is disclosed. The cationic polymer is desirably a polyquaternary amine material especially a poly(DADMAC) or polyvinylpyridine. Material dyed by the method has a “washed out” appearance similar to fabrics dyed using the “Jarofast” process, but the availability of a wide range of pre-metallized dyes gives a wider color range, and the method enables a wider range of substrates to be dyed successfully, including lyocell fiber materials e.g. those sold under Courtauld's trademark “Tencel” and blend/union materials with polyamides, easier processing and superior wash and light fastness.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1999Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLCInventors: Geoffrey William Collins, Stephen Martin Burkinshaw, Roy Gordon

Patent number: 6032576Abstract: A method of screen printing on to a hard non-absorbent substrate (1) involves using a screen (10) which has an ink permeable area (B) whose pattern corresponds to whatever is to be printed. The area B is divided into two parts (X and Y). Part X is of normal, maximum, ink carrying capacity and part Y is of reduced ink carrying capacity. The ink carrying capacity of the reduced ink carrying capacity part Yis determined by the extent to which it is coated with ink/impenetrable emulsion (20), the size of the pores (18) in the screen (10) and the type of ink used. The ink carrying capacity of the part Y reduces with distance away from part X. The emulsion coating (20) may be in the form of dots (200), with the dots (200) increasing in diameter with distance away from part X. During printing, the reduced ink carrying capacity part Y is located over the edge region (E) of the substrate (1), and the substrate is printed up to but not on to its edge (6).Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1998Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: Pilkington Automotive UK LimitedInventor: Terence William Collins
