  • Publication number: 20080064415
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of an access terminal. A detector detects delivery at the access terminal of a regular paging message. The regular paging message includes portions of a plurality of identities. The regular paging message also includes at least one additional bit conveyed in the message. The additional bit comprises, for example, an implicit bit or an explicit bit. The bit is associated with at an identity contained in the message.

  • Publication number: 20080057981
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating access terminal paging. A first non common portion of first and second identities are ordered. Once ordered, the non common portions are included in an access terminal paging message. The ordering of the non common portions are determinative of conveyance of a first additional identity bit.

  • Publication number: 20080057982
Abstract: Apparatus and an associated method for facilitating paging of an access terminal by an access network of a radio communication system. A quick paging message is first generated and sent to the access terminal. The quick paging message is formed of partial comparators, comprised of a first group of identity bits. A regular paging message is also generated and sent to the access terminal. The regular paging message is formed of partial comparators, comprised of a second group of identity bits. If, upon detection of the quick paging message, the access terminal determines that it is paged, the access terminal sends a response. The first and second groups of identity bits are, for example, different parts of the same number.

  • Publication number: 20080057984
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of an access terminal. A detector detects delivery at the access terminal of a paging message. The paging message includes a group of identities that are ordered. The ordering is determinative of an extra identity bit conveyed with the paging message.

  • Publication number: 20080057980
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of an access terminal operable in a radio communication system. A paging message is formed, selectably including partial identities of access terminals that are to be paged by the paging message. Determination is made as to whether portions of any of the partial identities have portions of common values. If portions of the partial identities have common values, such portions can be shared, and extra parts, resulting from sharing can be reallocated to increase the length of another partial identity.

  • Publication number: 20080057986
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of access terminals by way of a quick page message. A partial identity comparison scheme is utilized. Identifiers of access terminals that are to be paged in the quick page message are determined and compared. In the event that the identifiers are of redundant values, the redundant values are removed, thereby to provide additional locations in the quick page message that are not redundant for use better to page the access terminals that are to be paged.

  • Publication number: 20080057983
Abstract: Apparatus and an associated method for facilitating paging of access terminals by way of a quick page message. A determination is made of the number of additional partial identity bits, if any, that are available to be conveyed as part of a page message. In a page message with partial identities, extra bits of the identities can be extracted based upon the order of the partial identities in the message. Extra partial identity bits are made available based upon ordering of partial identities in a page message.

  • Publication number: 20080057979
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to form a quick page message for broadcast to access terminals to alert the access terminals of pending communication. The quick page message includes a structure formed of page identifier sets. During formation of the structure, a rearranger shortens the bit length of one or more of the page identifier sets. By reducing the bit length, the likelihood of a resultant redundant page identifier set, of the same bit length, is increased. Redundant page identifier sets are removable from the resultant quick page message.

  • Publication number: 20080055254
Abstract: A method of displaying text on a handheld electronic device, the handheld electronic device including an input apparatus, an output apparatus, and a memory having a plurality of objects stored therein, the plurality of objects including a plurality of language objects and a plurality of frequency objects having a frequency value, the input apparatus including a plurality of input members, at least one of the input members having a plurality of linguistic elements assigned thereto. The method comprises detecting a delimited ambiguous input, generating a plurality of results in response to the delimited ambiguous input, and outputting an indication that each result of at least two of the results is substantially identical in its entirety to a corresponding language object.

  • Patent number: 7340264
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing consistency in Short Message Service (SMS) timestamp formatting (UTC or non-UTC) for mobile communication devices are disclosed. In one illustrative example, a method involves receiving an SMS message intended for a mobile communication device; identifying whether the SMS message has timestamp data formatted in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) format or non-UTC format; converting the timestamp data from the UTC format to a non-UTC time format based on an identification that the SMS message has timestamp data formatted in the UTC format; failing to convert the timestamp data to a non-UTC time format based on an identification that the SMS message has timestamp data in the non-UTC format; and causing the SMS message to be sent to the mobile communication device.

  • Publication number: 20080051116
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for paging an access terminal in a radio communication system. Dynamic configuration and reconfiguration of a quick page message is provided. Its configuration is dependent upon paging load in the system. Hash values are selected and used pursuant to the configuration, and use, of the message. A first hash value is selected within a first range. And, a second hash value is selected within a second range. The second range from which the second hash value is selected does not include the first hash value.

  • Publication number: 20080051109
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for paging an access terminal in a radio communication system. A page indication count setter selects the page indication count, i.e., the number of page indications per page, to be included in a quick page message. The set page indication count is dependent upon communication activity, e.g., the system paging load, identified by a communication activity input indicia identifier.

  • Publication number: 20080051144
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for paging an access terminal in a radio communication system. A message generator generates a quick paging message formed of page indication locations. Page indication values are populated in selected page indication locations of the message. A hash generator generates hash values that are determinative of the page indication locations that are populated with the page indication values.

  • Patent number: 7333821
Abstract: In one illustrative example, a mobile communication device has a wireless transceiver; an antenna coupled to the wireless transceiver; one or more processors coupled to the wireless transceiver; and a power source interface which is adapted to connect with a power source for supplying electrical power to the mobile device. The one or more processors are operative to monitor a quick paging channel of a wireless communication network with use of the wireless transceiver; identify whether a predetermined power source is connected to the power source interface; cause an indication to terminate use of the quick paging channel to be transmitted with the wireless transceiver to the wireless network based on identifying that the predetermined power source is connected to the power source interface; and refrain from monitoring the quick paging channel with the wireless transceiver after sending the indication to the wireless network.
