  • Publication number: 20030177583
Abstract: A mattress has a quilted internal pillow wherein one or more internal layers of material are quilt-stitched prior to encapsulation in mattress upholstery. The quilted internal pillow is positioned relative to a support surface of an innerspring or spring core of a mattress to provide support characteristics determined by the quilt stitch pattern. In a related method of manufacture of a mattress with an internal quilt stitched pillow, the layer or layers of the pillow are processed through a quilter stitching machine and then assembled in combination with a mattress spring core and upholstery. The quilted internal pillow may be located adjacent to the spring core, spaced from the spring core by other internal layers of material, or located adjacent to or within a mattress pillowtop, and in each embodiment on one or both sides of the mattress.

  • Patent number: 6574815
Abstract: An attachment gusset with ruffled corners and method and machinery for manufacture provides a gusset formed of a continuous strip of material which is pleated at corners or turns in direction of the gusset to form ruffles which are attached to an adjacent layer of material. The ruffled gusset lies substantially flat against adjacent layers of material to which it is attached in a pressed state, and can be expanded to accommodate dimensional structures, such as cushioned pads. The number and spacing of pleats can be adjusted according to the radius of the corners or turns in the gusset. In a method of construction of the gusset, the pleats are formed as the material to which the gusset is attached is turned relative to the sewing point of attachment.

  • Publication number: 20020112291
Abstract: A modular sleep system has a foundation unit, an support unit having an innerspring and a support surface covered with a friction material, and a comfort unit having compressible material encapsulated in a woven upholstery material which is engaged by the friction material on the support surface of the support unit to prevent lateral movement or sliding of the comfort unit relative to the support unit, without any fasteners between the support unit and the comfort unit. The comfort unit can be lifted vertically off of the support unit without release or use of any fasteners, to be turned over, fluffed or exchanged for a different comfort unit having different layers of internal materials, feature layers, and support characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6263533
Abstract: Extruded foam reinforcement pieces are described for assembly in connection with innerspring assemblies and mattresses. The pieces have optimized cross-sectional configurations which can be consistently extruded in continuous strands which are then cut to length according to the type and size of innerspring assembly. The pieces are configured to engage various components of the innerspring, including spring coils, spaces between spring coils, and framing borderwires. The foam reinforcement pieces facilitate attachment and alignment of overlying material such as padding and upholstery and function to improve the support characteristics of an innerspring.

  • Patent number: 5713088
Abstract: An innerspring assembly, such as for use in a mattress, comprises a plurality of coil springs defining upper and lower terminal convolutions and body portions therebetween. Adjacent coil springs are attached together at the body portions thereof with the terminal convolutions being unattached to one another, so that the terminal convolution can move independently of one another.

  • Patent number: 5034529
Abstract: In a process for the production of a thiophosphoric acid ester of formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkoxy(lower)alkyl or lower alkylmercapto(lower)alkyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower alkenyl and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are lower alkyl, which comprises reacting a dialkyl phosphoric acid halide of formula II ##STR2## wherein Hal is chlorine or bromine and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are as defined hereinabove, with a hydroxypyrimidine of formula III ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 have the significance given to them above, at elevated temperatures and in the presence of an organic solvent and an acid-binding agent, the improvement which comprises adding the reactant of formula II to an essentially dry mixture of the hydroxypyrimidine of formula III and the acid-binding agent in the presence of a low molecular weight water-insoluble aliphatic or cycloaliphatic ketone as organic solvent after removing the water of reaction from said mixture.

  • Patent number: 4954950
Abstract: A terminal communications circuit that provides communication through a bus interface circuit to a network bus in accordance with the predetermined communications procedure, the terminal communications circuit including a communications interchange circuit that exchanges protocol signals with the bus interface circuit in response to commands received from a signal state controller that is resident in the terminal. The communications interchange circuit further provides communications state change information to the signal state controller to indicate the contents of the protocol signals from the bus information circuit. The signal state controller executes one of a plurality of program states to control communications over the network bus in accordance with predetermined communications procedure by providing commands to the communications interchange circuit in acordance with the program state that the signal state controller is currently executing.

  • Patent number: 4829462
Abstract: A communication bit pattern detection circuit that provides an output signal upon the occurrence of one of several predefined bit patterns for a series of a specified number of bits for a multiple of input signals where each input signal is a continuous stream of serial bit data. The communication bit pattern detection circuit includes a detection stage having combinational logic connected to receive the input signals and providing the logically combined bits to latches of a shift register. The number of latches in the shift register is less than the specified number of bits for the predefined bit patterns. The output of these latches are provided to a logic stage that includes additional combinational logic that provides a nondetection signal. This nondetection signal is provided to indicate that the bits received are not part of any of the predefined bit patterns. The nondetection signal is input to reset a counter.

  • Patent number: 4757577
Abstract: This invention relates generally to fasteners, and more particularly to slide fasteners, commonly known as zippers, and a method of forming the same, which may be used to fasten three or more sets of links together, as well as, to provide a collapsible, rigid support for loads which may be applied axially and laterally to the fastened together links. The invention is easily stored and uses a single slider for interlocking the separate sets of elements in a simple and effective manner. The tapes have multiple links secured thereto and extend orthogonally therefrom. The slider has guideways through which the links may pass. The tapes and the links are passed downward through the slider element to thereby intersperse and interlock the links and thus the tape. The opposite movement through the slider causes the links to be separated and disjoined.
