  • Patent number: 4113511
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed where aqueous solutions of chemicals are added to fused non-aqueous baths. This is done by spraying the aqueous solution of the chemicals onto the surface of the fused bath in a fine spray, causing the evaporation of the water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 17, 1977
Date of Patent: September 12, 1978
Inventors: Robert H. Shoemaker, William G. Wood
  • Patent number: 4046758
Abstract: 3-Halo-2,6-dinitro-4-trifluoromethylanilines having hydrocarbon substituents on the nitrogen atom. The hydrocarbon substituents can be alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or a portion of a heterocyclic group. The compounds are especially useful as intermediates for preparing herbicidal dinitro-1,3-phenylenediamines.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 28, 1976
Date of Patent: September 6, 1977
Assignee: United States Borax & Chemical Corporation
Inventors: William G. Woods, Don L. Hunter
  • Patent number: 3968138
Abstract: 2,4-Dinitro-1,3-phenylenediamine compounds having a lower alkyl or cyano substituent at the 6-position of the ring are useful as herbicides.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 10, 1975
Date of Patent: July 6, 1976
Assignee: United States Borax & Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Don L. Hunter, William G. Woods, James D. Stone, Cecil W. LeFevre

  • Patent number: 3951681
Abstract: A ferrous metal product to be cleaned is immersed in an oxidizing molten salt bath forming a conditioned scale on the surface of the metal. The conditioned scale is subsequently removed from the metal surface by immersing the metal product in an aqueous caustic bath containing alkali metal hydroxide with alkali gluconate and triethanolamine serving as sequestering agents. The caustic bath may optionally include a brightening catalyst or ethylenediamine-tetracetic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 1973
Date of Patent: April 20, 1976
    Assignee: Kolene Corporation
Inventors: Robert H. Shoemaker, William G. Wood
