    Abstract: Systems and methods for mapping a surface of a celestial body containing objects and terrain are provided. One system includes a Synthetic Aperture RADAR (SAR) module configured to capture a high-resolution image of the terrain of at least a portion of the surface and a map module configured to store map data representing the portion of the surface. The system also includes a fusion module configured to combine the high-resolution image and the map data to generate a high-resolution map of the portion of the surface. A method includes orbiting the celestial body, capturing, via the SAR module, a high-resolution image during each orbit, and fusing the captured high-resolution image with a low-resolution map of the surface to generate a high-resolution map of the surface. A computer-readable medium for storing instructions that cause a processor to perform the above method is also provided.

    Abstract: This device is a magnetically levitated (maglev) locomotive powered by an onboard nuclear reactor. The locomotive carries a small portable nuclear reactor that heats a fluid to boiling, and passes it through electric turbine engines to produce electric power. The fluid/steam then recirculates through cooling radiators condensing it back to liquid before it passes back into the reactors again. The electric power is used to power and cool the onboard electromagnets, which oppose passive permanent magnets or magnetic coils in the roadbed. The onboard reactor is capable of providing greater electrical power than previously described maglev systems. This, in turn, provides greater power to the superconducting electromagnets, which translates into greater lift capacity and greater speed.

    Abstract: A tire pressure indicator that is combined with a fill valve. The indicator and the fill valve are coaxial or concentric. The invention may be screwed onto a tire valve stem. The indicator has three bands or sections, each of which is a different color, for indicating whether tire pressure is within a predetermined range, above that range, or below that range. The colors are viewed through a lens, aided by a mirror. A diaphragm pushes the indicator up when pressure rises, while a spring pushes the indicator down when pressure drops. A tire may be inflated or deflated while the invention is mounted on a tire stem. During inflation, the pin in an air chuck at the end of an air hose may depress a valve pin assembly to open the fill valve. A user may deflate the tire by manually depressing the valve pin assembly to release air.

    Abstract: A method for shredding, blending, and packaging wastes so that the shipment of waste is acceptable for transportation and disposal. Containerized wastes, laden with fissile isotopes, such as that from sodium fluoride traps and granulated carbon collection assemblies, if not already conditioned, are conditioned for blending by shredding them to particle size and then blending the particles with a grout mix either in a reusable mixing vessel or in a disposable mixing vessel. The blend of waste and grout is selected to meet governmental and disposal site requirements for an acceptable waste shipment. If blended in a reusable vessel, the blended waste is transferred to shipping containers. The shipping containers are placed in shielded shipping casks for transportation to a disposal facility. The grout mix is a combination of grout and neutron poisons such as borated sand to prevent criticality.

The valves are forced open during inflation when the actuating pin is depressed by the compressor chuck head, opening a fill chamber through which fluid flows into an inflatable object, and also opening a blow-off chamber. A blow-off intake allows lower pressure fluid from the interior of the object to enter the blow-off chamber. The fluid entering the blow-off chamber is isolated from the high pressure fluid coming in from the compressor through the fill chamber by a separation fin and shield joined to the bottom end of the actuating pin. A blow-off gasket is biased upward by a blow-off spring. But as pressure in the object and the blow-off chamber increases, the blow-off gasket is forced down, until at the predetermined pressure it is pushed past a blow-off port, through which fluid then escapes.

    Abstract: The improved wheelchair employs the use of two push levers attached to two forward drive gears, and two reverse drive gears, which propel the two main rear wheels of the chair through bicycle chains connecting the front drive gears to sprocket clusters mounted on the rear wheel axles. Direction control mechanisms allow the user to engage either forward or reverse drive gears, or disengage both, thereby producing forward, neutral, and reverse motion. Derailers are mounted behind each rear axle and are activated by shifter mechanisms mounted on the push levers. Disc brakes are mounted on the frame beside each wheel and activated by hand brake levers mounted on the push levers.

    Abstract: A mounting system is disclosed for mounting a bearing assembly or other mechanical element to a shaft. The mounting system uses a tapered sleeve mechanism to secure the bearing assembly on the shaft. Specifically, a plurality of screws point load the tapered sleeve and drive it from a pre-assembled position to an initial position. Once the initial position has been reached a plurality of fasteners then drive the sleeve from the initial position to a final position. The difference between the initial position and final position determined by the width of a removable spacer used in the mounting system. The system also incorporates a jack screw mechanism used to dismount the bearing assembly from the shaft.

    Abstract: A unitary ballast device for attachment to the rear portion of a pickup truck cargo bed using mounting pins, chain links, shackles and affixed eyelets in the interior of the vehicle cargo bed. The ballast device is composed of steel or other heavy metal, and the surface coated in rubber to reduce damage to the cargo bed and any cargo present in the cargo bed. The device is positioned laterally at the rear of the vehicle bed and is releasable by detaching from affixed eyelets in the cargo bed and can be modified to include a second metal base for increased dampening effect. The device can remain in place with cargo loads present with little risk of damage to the load due to the beveled edges and rubber coating of the base, thereby increasing ease of use and efficiency.
