  • Patent number: 9473106
Abstract: A thin-film bulk acoustic wave delay line device providing true-time delays and a method of fabricating same. An exemplary device can comprise several thin-film layers including thin-film transducer layers, thin-film delay layers, and stacks of additional thin-film materials providing acoustic reflectors and matching networks. The layer material selection and layer thicknesses can be controlled to improve impedance matching between transducers and the various delay line materials. For example, the transducer layers and delay layers can comprise piezoelectric and amorphous forms of the same material. The layers can be deposited on a carrier substrate using standard techniques. The device can be configured so that mechanical waves propagate solely within the thin films, providing a substrate-independent device. The device, so constructed, can be of a small size, e.g. 40 ?m per side, and capable of handling high power levels, potentially up to 20 dBm, with low insertion loss of approximately 3 dB.

  • Publication number: 20150379298
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for protecting electronic content from the time it is packaged through the time it is experienced by an end user. Protection against content misuse is accomplished using a combination of encryption, watermark screening, detection of invalid content processing software and hardware, and/or detection of invalid content flows. Encryption protects the secrecy of content while it is being transferred or stored. Watermark screening protects against the unauthorized use of content. Watermark screening is provided by invoking a filter module to examine content for the presence of a watermark before the content is delivered to output hardware or software. The filter module is operable to prevent delivery of the content to the output hardware or software if it detects a predefined protection mark. Invalid content processing software is detected by a monitoring mechanism that validates the software involved in processing protected electronic content.

  • Patent number: 9161425
Abstract: Various techniques are provided for implementing a lighting device variable control using a variable inductor. In various examples, the variable control may be implemented with a plurality of continuous or stepped settings. The variable control may be adjusted by a user-actuated movement of a part of the lighting device, such as the depression of a tail cap or another appropriate physical control to change the inductance of the variable inductor. An oscillating signal may be induced in a variable inductor circuit that includes the variable inductor. The oscillating signal may exhibit characteristics, such as frequency, that change with the inductance of the variable inductor. Such characteristics may be measured to determine a setting of the variable control and which may be used to adjust the brightness or other attributes of the lighting device.

  • Patent number: 9062679
Abstract: A method of attenuating fluid dynamic pulsations that propagate through a flow of fluid at a convective velocity of the fluid, the pulsations having an organized vortical structure includes directing the flow to a pulsation dampener inlet having a first area and transitioning the organized vortical structure to a small-scale turbulent structure by squeezing the vorticies by passing the flow of fluid through a passage having a second area that is smaller than the first area, then rapidly expanding the flow of fluid by passing it into a chamber having a third area measured at an inlet of the chamber that is substantially larger than the second area. The method also includes discharging the flow of fluid from the chamber. The flow of fluid includes substantially attenuated fluid dynamic pulsations and acoustic pulsations that travel through the flow of fluid at the speed of sound.

  • Publication number: 20150041457
Abstract: Systems and methods include directing limited frequencies of microwave signals toward target molecules, driving a motion of the target molecules to impact molecular recognition. In one implementation, a microwave spectra associated with the rotational modes of a target molecule is obtained. From peaks in the spectra, a mode of molecular movement is identified and a microwave signal profile is generated for driving a motion of binding portions of the molecule associated with the identified mode. Microwave signals are generated based on the signal profile for output by antennas. For example, the microwave signals can be can be used to impede the binding of quorum sensing molecules by receptors of P. aeruginosa. In one implementation, the antennas can be placed in a catheter for placement in a patient. In another implementation, the antennas can be placed in a sleeve or other device for use adjacent to the skin of a patient.
