    Abstract: A system for providing architecture and signaling, by which a mobile communications device—active within a WLAN environment—may be effectively and efficiently interfaced with a CDMA2000 network to provide cooperative and concurrent VoIP and over-the-air (OTA) communications, is disclosed. A wireless communications system comprises a mobile station, operating in a wireless LAN environment. The mobile station access the Internet through a wireless LAN access point. The area is also provided service by a CDMA2000-based over-the-air network. A provisioning server, within the CDMA2000-based network, is accessible via the Internet. A mobile switching center is also within the CDMA2000-based network. An interface construct is communicatively coupled to the mobile switching center and to the wireless LAN, and is adapted to facilitate call traffic between the CDMA2000 network and the mobile station over the wireless LAN.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for configuring femtocell devices for performing handoffs in a communication system. The communication system is provided with a plurality of macrocell base stations, a femtocell device, a wireless softswitch and a mobile node. In the communication system, each macrocell base station serves a macro cell, and the femtocell device serves a femto cell and is disposed in one of the plurality of macro cells. The wireless softswitch is communicatively connected with the plurality of macrocell base stations and the femtocell device, and stores geographic coverage area information for each of the plurality of macrocell base stations. The mobile node is originally disposed within the femto cell and moves out of the femto cell. The mobile node transmits a registration message to the femtocell device. The femtocell device forwards the registration message and geographical location information for the femtocell device to the wireless softswitch.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus configure Femto Devices in an Ultra Mobile Broadband network system. A Femto Device transmits a Femto pilot signal to an Access Terminal, which is served by a plurality of base stations in the Ultra Mobile Broadband network system. The Access Terminal then transmits to the Femto Device an identifier of a base station that controls a macro cell where the Femto Device is located. Next, a Neighbor Discovery Request message is transmitted from the Femto Device to the base station in dependence upon the received identifier of the base station. In response to the Neighbor Discovery Request message received, a Neighbor Discovery Report message is transmitted from the base station to the Femto device. The Neighbor Discovery Report message includes a field indicating network addresses of a Session Reference Network Controller and an Access Gateway that connect to the base station.

    Abstract: A session information retrieval system is disclosed that efficiently transfers mobile station session information among certain members of a radio access network. As a mobile station within the network—which is dormant in a first packet data zone of the network—moves to a second packet data zone, a PCF for the second packet zone contacts the PCF for the first packet data zone to retrieve session information for the MS. Having retrieved the MS's already-established session information, the second PCF obviates the need to re-establish or re-negotiate session information for the MS. Having forwarded the MS's session information to the second PCF, the first PCF may discard the now unneeded session information that would have otherwise been maintained indefinitely—freeing up valuable system resources.

The invention comprises a source base station that is capable of sending messages to a rescue base station to cause the rescue base station to establish a rescue channel for a mobile station that has lost its traffic channel. The messages for establishing rescue channels communications between the base stations comprise Internetwork Operating System (IOS) messages that have been modified to add rescue channel indicator information. In an alternate advantageous embodiment of the invention, specially designed rescue channel activation messages and rescue channel activation acknowledgment messages are used to establish a rescue channel for the mobile station.
