  • Publication number: 20100041371
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for mobile telephone-based user authentication. Data records are stored in a data storage, with each data record including a cellular telephone number and pre-set payment mechanism data. Login data is received via a user interface associated with a document processing device that includes a telephone number of a cellular telephone associated with the user. The presence of a data record corresponding to the login data is determined, and operation of the document processing device is commenced upon the presence of a data record in the data storage. A data message is sent to the cellular telephone corresponding to the telephone number of the login data. Confirmation data is received from the cellular telephone responsive to the data message, and an operation on the document processing device is completed in accordance with received confirmation data.

  • Patent number: 7609398
Abstract: This invention is directed to a system and method for storing font image data, which is already rendered, in a history-based order on the server side. This avoids the server side processing time to render the font every time a request is received. This allows users to use many server side fonts that users may not have on their client workstations. In the method, the user uses a web browser to choose a font type, size, and style from a list of available fonts installed on the server. The system then determines if the selected font exists in the font repository. If the font exists, the system retrieves the font images from the font repository. If the font does not exist, the system creates the font images and stores the font images to the font repository.

  • Publication number: 20090248512
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for selective incorporation of targeted content in remotely rendered documents. An electronic document is first received from an owner. Layout data corresponding to the size and/or position available for placement of secondary content in connection with a rendering of the electronic document is then received. Destination data corresponding to an output destination for a rendering of the electronic document is then received. The secondary content is then retrieved in accordance with the received destination data and formatted based upon the received layout data. The electronic document and the secondary content are then communicated to an output destination in accordance with the received destination data so as to generate a rendered document at the output destination, with the rendered document incorporating the electronic document and secondary content mutually arranged based upon the layout data.

  • Publication number: 20090244598
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for user-specific discovery and initiation of a default document processing device. First, a computing device is placed in data communication with an associated data network. Device data corresponding to document processing devices accessible by the computing device is then retrieved. Via the associated data network, data communication is established between the computing device and the document processing devices. The relative location between the computing device and each of the document processing devices is then determined according to the established data communication. A default document processing device subset is thereafter selected from the available document processing devices based upon the determined location. Operation of the document processing device subset is then enabled via the computing device.

  • Publication number: 20090222732
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for server-directed document input via a document processor interface. A thin client interface is generated on a graphical display associated with a document processing device via a web server. The document processing device is controlled via a controller using software instructions. User instructions relative to a scanning operation are then received and data corresponding to the user instructions is communicated to the server via a network interface. The server receives the user instructions and generates device control instructions. The control instructions are communicated to the controller of the processing device. Operation of a scanner integrated with the processing device is commenced and scanning is performed of an electronic document from a tangible document positioned on the scanner according to the device control instructions. The electronic document is communicated from the processing device to the server via the network interface.

  • Patent number: 7584089
Abstract: An architecture for universal data communication between a network client and a web server. A web server receives a character string from the network client for storing. The web server encodes and then stores the string. Any character that is not a 7 bit ASCII character is encoded by encapsulating it with an escape code, the escape code comprised of an illegal character. Upon a request to retrieve the encoded string, the web server decodes and converts to UTF8 the encoded character string. When a client or browser requests the folder or document containing the encoded string, the string is properly displayed in the client's or browser's native language.

  • Publication number: 20090217295
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for extensible document processing. The startup of a plurality of document processing services on an associated document processing device is controlled via a service startup manager. Each of the document processing services is then interfaced with a control system via a device level interface. Data is communicated between the device level interface and an external data processing device via an agent layer interface. The agent layer interface is registered with the service startup manager. A startup of the document processing device is then commenced in accordance with the control of the service startup manager. A document processing control display is generated on a user interface associated with the document processing device, with the display including indicia corresponding to one of the functions of the external data processing device according to the agent layer interface.

  • Publication number: 20090204893
Abstract: A system and method for dynamically configuring page numbers. A user is prompted for pagination data, including page number, pagination formatting, and pagination location for each page of a rendition of a document, via a thin client interface on a workstation. A document image data file comprising a bitmapped electronic document associated with the pagination data is then retrieved. An object file is populated with numbering data specified by the pagination data. The object and document files are communicated to a document rendering device that processes the object file to generate bitmapped pagination content. A merged file is created from bitmapped content of the image file and pagination content from the object file. A document output is generated from the merged file having viewable content including the content of the document data image file and the populated object file. The document output is communicated to the rendering device for rendering.

  • Publication number: 20090204955
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for automated distribution and implementation of security fixes. A text message is first received into data storage of a document processing device via a data network. Strings in the received text message are then parsed so as to isolate control data, which includes advisory data corresponding to the applicability of a security risk associated with a class of devices and remedy data corresponding to a solution to a vulnerability problem associated with vulnerability data. The advisory data is then tested for applicability to the device, and the remedy data is analyzed according to the advisory test. An alteration of the document processing device is then completed in accordance with the output of analysis. The acceptability of the alteration of the device is then verified, and an applied alteration of the device is undone based upon the verification output.

  • Publication number: 20080294973
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for construction of layered documents, such as advertisements, educational materials, graphic designs, and the like. In multiple image data files generated, for example, by scanning multiple document pages, a user is capable of selecting a color in a particular page, or region of a page, to be eliminated. A user is further capable of selecting a tint level associated with a corresponding image data file, such as, for example, 0%, 50%, and the like. Once desired color transparency data and tint level data are selected, a document processing device generates a composite image by superimposition of each of the image data files. The composite image is generated in accordance with the overlay order designated by the user. A tangible, humanly cognizable document is then generated by the document processing device.
