  • Patent number: 8484963
Abstract: A bypass pin for a hydrostatic transmission is disclosed. The hydrostatic transmission has a hydraulic pump. The bypass pin has a head positioned at one end of a shaft. The bypass pin also has a tip positioned at an opposite end of the shaft. The bypass pin is configured to receive a linear force exerted against the head in a first direction which causes the bypass pin to move in the first direction. The shaft of the bypass pin is configured to be positioned through a casing containing the hydrostatic transmission. The tip is configured to contact a rotating member in the hydraulic pump when the rotating member is in contact with a fluid directional member, the tip pushing the rotating member away from a fluid directional member in the first direction when the linear force is applied.

  • Patent number: 8487877
Abstract: A method and apparatus of identifying and selecting characters from among a plurality of characters. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a computer processor electronically enables identification of each of a plurality of characters arranged in a one-dimensional array. Each character is identified by an integer value that corresponds to the number of positions the character is offset from a reference position of the one-dimensional array. The computer processor electronically enables selection of any of the characters by receiving input resulting from activation of selection keys that specify the integer value of a character desired for selection. In one further embodiment, each selection key has an assigned integer value, and the integer value that identifies the selected character is calculated by summing the assigned integer values of each selection key activated for each instance that each selection key is activated within a selectable-length time period.

  • Patent number: 8486108
Abstract: A clip for engaging tissue includes a generally annular-shaped body defining a plane and disposed about a central axis extending normal to the plane. The body includes alternating inner and outer curved regions, defining a zigzag pattern about a periphery of the clip. The body is biased towards a planar configuration lying in the plane and deflectable towards a transverse configuration extending out of the plane. Tines extend from the inner curved regions, the tines being oriented towards the central axis in the planar configuration, and parallel to the central axis in the transverse configuration. The tines may include primary tines and secondary tines that are shorter than the primary tines. The primary tines may be disposed on opposing inner curved regions and oriented towards one another such that they overlap in the planar configuration.

  • Patent number: 8489231
Abstract: Methods to solve the costly “loop mail” problem (FIG. 4, 464) in automated sorting and delivery of mail pieces are disclosed. Loop mail is detected, and marked as such (FIG. 7, 738), in an automated reject encoding machine (REM) (FIGS. 9-10). In one case, loop mail is detected where a new image of a returned mail piece is captured (702), a new destination address is read (720), and the new address does not match the bar code on the piece (732), suggesting that the previous address resolution was erroneous. The bar code is over-labeled (734) and replaced with the new postal code (736). The mail piece is marked with a loop mail indicator (738), and then returned for automated DBCS sortation (740). The loop mail indicator (810) indicates that the piece has already gone around the sorting and attempted delivery loop at least once, and is used to prevent recurrence (704, 710).

  • Patent number: 8487478
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are directed to wireless power transfer. A transmitting device or a receiving device for use in a wireless transfer system may be equipment or a household appliance. The transmitting device includes a transmit antenna to wirelessly transfer power to a receive antenna by generating a near field radiation within a coupling-mode region. An amplifier applies an RF signal to the transmit antenna. A presence detector detects a presence of a receiver device within the coupling-mode region. A controller adjusts a power output of the amplifier responsive to the presence of a receiver device. The presence detector may also detect a human presence. The power output may be adjusted at or below the regulatory level when the presence signal indicates human presence and above a regulatory level when the presence signal indicates human absence.

  • Patent number: 8485291
Abstract: A hybrid electric vehicle with two separate drive systems. High speed operation is powered by self frequency ramping alternating current motors 107 within the wheel rims. Low speed operation is powered by hydraulic motors 102 directly coupled to the drive wheels. The hydraulic oil is pressurized by direct current motors/pumps 302 & 309 energized by a battery pack 106. The alternating current motors 107 are energized by mechanical or electronically generated alternating current. The hybrid power source is either a combustion engine 406 driving a poly-phased alternator 501 or a fuel cell 600 providing direct current. In the case of the combustion engine 406, a direct current helper motor/generator 404 will augment the engine with power from the battery pack 106 under large demands and charge the battery pack 106 under small demands. In the case of a fuel cell 600, the cell is augmented by the battery pack 106 under large demands and charges the battery pack 106 under small or no demands.

  • Patent number: 8487591
Abstract: A power control system provides immunity from power supply dropout for a controller without compromising a startup time of the controller. In at least one embodiment, the power control system includes separate startup and dropout immunity capacitors. In at least one embodiment, selection of the capacitance of the startup capacitor is independent of selection of the capacitance of the dropout immunity capacitance. In at least one embodiment, the startup capacitance can be minimized to provide sufficient energy for the controller to normally operate during one missed cycle of an input voltage and, thus, provide a minimum startup time for the controller. The capacitance of the dropout immunity capacitor can be maximized to provide sufficient energy for the controller to operate normally during a time period longer than one cycle of the input voltage.

  • Patent number: 8489819
Abstract: A data processing system includes a plurality of processing units coupled by an interconnect fabric. In response to a data request, a victim cache line is selected for castout from a first lower level cache of a first processing unit, and a target lower level cache of one of the plurality of processing units is selected based upon architectural proximity of the target lower level cache to a home system memory to which the address of the victim cache line is assigned. The first processing unit issues on the interconnect fabric a lateral castout (LCO) command that identifies the victim cache line to be castout from the first lower level cache and indicates that the target lower level cache is an intended destination. In response to a coherence response indicating success of the LCO command, the victim cache line is removed from the first lower level cache and held in the second lower level cache.
