  • Publication number: 20130182318
Abstract: A cassette for retaining a specimen of surgically exposed tissue from a patient in an orientation that facilitates optical sectioning of the tissue by a confocal microscopic or other optical imaging microscope. The cassette includes a base member having a rigid optically transparent window upon which a tissue specimen is situated, a pliable membrane locatable over a substantial portion of the base member including the window, and an upper member, having an aperture therethrough, which can cover the base member to provide an enclosed cavity between the membrane and the window sealing the tissue specimen therein. The edges of the tissue specimen may be positioned planar against the window and retained in that position by bonds formed between the membrane and window at multiple points or locations around the tissue specimen. The specimen retained in the cavity is imagible a microscope through the window of the base member.

  • Publication number: 20130183922
Abstract: A plurality of registration messages are received at a base station from a plurality of mobile units. The base station collects these registration messages for a predetermined period of time. At the end of the predetermined period of time, the base station sends the registration messages, or a summary of the registration messages, to a wireless network. The wireless network examines the registration messages to determine if the number of registration messages received for a predefined geographic area exceeds a predetermined threshold. If so, the wireless network sends a crowd information update message to a law enforcement agency if the plurality of registration message exceed a predetermined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20130185744
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present disclosure create a novel system for rating an event in a media based on the strength of the emotions viewers feel towards the event. The viewer's responses to the media can be measured and calculated via physiological sensors. The metric for rating the strength of the media is created based on the mathematical coherence of change (up or down) of all pertinent physiological responses across multiple viewers. Such rating offers an objective ability to compare the strengths of events of the media, as there is a strong correlation between high coherence of physiological responses (all viewers feel the same thing at the same time) and strong ratings of emotionality, engagement, likeability, success in the marketplace/on screen.

  • Publication number: 20130185660
Abstract: A portable device automatically stores information (including, if desired, a timestamp) regarding user-interface interactions and then, in response to detecting holstering of the portable device, automatically uses that information to revert to an earlier user-interface interaction-directed state when at least one reversion criterion is also met. The reversion criterion can comprise a set duration of time. This use of the information to revert to an earlier user-interface interaction-directed state can comprise deleting at least some of the information from storage to identify the particular user-interface interaction to be used to determine the earlier user-interface interaction-directed state.

  • Publication number: 20130180148
Abstract: A collapsible stock assembly for a firearm includes a stock body defining a buffer tube passage for slidably accommodating a firearm buffer tube therein. An adjustment slit communicates with the buffer tube passage along a forward portion thereof. A first adjustment mechanism canied by the stock body includes a buffer tube engagement element that can extend into the buffer tube passage and is selectively positionable by a first operating lever. A second operating mechanism includes a second operating lever that is operable to selectively compress the adjustment slit. Disengaging the first adjustment mechanism automatically disengages the second adjustment mechanism. Excessive force on the stock in several embodiments automatically disengages both adjustment mechanisms and minimizes damage to stock assembly and/or buffer tube.

  • Publication number: 20130185040
Abstract: A method to parameterize the geometry of a geological, subsurface feature such as a salt body is provided. Data corresponding to a subsurface, geological formation is acquired. The acquired formation data corresponds to a subsurface body having a certain geometry and a subsurface region. At least part of the subsurface body geometry is directly inverted into an inversion domain. The direct inversion includes partitioning the inversion domain into a first partitioned region, corresponding at least in part to the subsurface body, and a second partitioned region. The inversion further uses a level set representation to parameterize the subsurface body geometry. A computing system that includes a processor, a memory, and one or more programs stored in the memory is also provided. The programs comprise instructions that, when executed by the processor, are configured to perform the provided method.

  • Publication number: 20130184429
Abstract: Biodegradable polyesters are made by synthesizing copolymers derived from biodegradable hydroxyacid monomers as well as from hydroxyacid monomers containing a functional group such as an azide group, a halogen group, a thioacetate group, and the like. Preferably, the functionalized biodegradable polyester copolymers are derived from a functionalized hydroxyacid such as a homolog of lactic acid and/or glycolic acid with the copolyester thus containing functional groups on the backbone thereof. These biodegradable polyesters can be utilized wherever biodegradable polyesters are currently used, and also serve as a polymer to which various medical and drug delivery systems can be attached.

  • Publication number: 20130184951
Abstract: A vehicle includes an engine, transmission, and controller. The transmission includes a clutch pack, a clutch piston, and a position sensor. The sensor measures a changing magnetic field with respect to the piston, and encodes the measured magnetic field as a raw position signal. The controller receives the raw position signal and processes the raw position signal through a signal processing module to generate a filtered signal attenuating signal noise in the position signal. The controller determines a commanded position of the piston, and calculates separate proportional (P), derivative (D), and integral (I) control terms using the commanded position and filtered position signal. The controller also calculates a feed-forward control term using the commanded position, and a required flow rate for actuating the clutch pack as a function of the PID terms and the feed-forward commanded position term. The controller actuates the clutch pack using the commanded flow rate.

  • Publication number: 20130181176
Abstract: A scissor mechanism comprises a pair of opposed jaws. The opposed jaws are defined at one end of a rigid member. At least one rigid member is pivotably engaged to a base plate. The base plate is capable of being coupled to a mobilization structure that is capable of being rolled on the ground. For example, the mobilization structure may comprise a jack or a bolt that is capable of raising and lowering the base plate. The jaws provide a strong grip on a portion of the shelving either under the influence of a strong biasing mechanism or by using a lever action to force one or more of the jaws closed onto the portion of the shelving. A bump stop may be adjusted to impinge on another portion of the shelving, which may prevent the shelving from tipping or sliding within the pair of jaws.
