  • Patent number: 7143614
Abstract: An apparatus which inhibits the theft of equipment such as personal computers is disclosed. The equipment must have an external wall provided with a specially designed, approximately rectangular slot having preselected dimensions. An attachment mechanism includes a housing for a spindle having a first portion rotatable within the housing, a shaft extending outwardly from the housing, and a crossmember at the end of the shaft having peripheral dimensions closely conforming to the internal dimensions of the slot. An abutment mechanism also emanates from the housing, and is located on opposite sides of the shaft intermediate the housing and the crossmember. The peripheral cross-sectional dimensions of the abutment mechanism and the shaft in combination closely conform to the dimensions of the slot. The length of the shaft from the housing to the crossmember is approximately equal to the thickness of the external wall of equipment.

  • Patent number: 7146481
Abstract: Methods and structure for storing volume and other configuration information on all disk drives of a volume group and for performing pre-merge operations to inform a user of the pending availability of the identified volumes. Configuration information has been historically stored in two distinct areas of configuration information on disk drives—a volume information area and an “other” information area. Aspects of the invention provide for storing all configuration information in the “other” information area. All disks of a system therefore include all configuration information relating both to volumes and to pseudo volume. A pre-merge operation is performed when each disk drive is inserted into a storage system to present new volume information to a user. When the last disk drive of a volume group is inserted, the user may select new volumes to be imported into the system.

  • Patent number: 7144739
Abstract: A pressure-sealing, pressure-monitoring closure for non-invasively sealing a reaction vessel to a defined release pressure in microwave-assisted chemistry is disclosed. The closure includes a pressure-resistant, microwave-transparent reaction vessel, one portion of which defines a mouth, a flexible pressure-transmitting releasable cover assembly on the mouth of the vessel, a pressure transducer on the cover and external to the vessel for monitoring the pressure in the vessel as exerted against the flexible cover, and a clamp for urging the vessel, the cover and the transducer together under a defined force so that when the pressure in the vessel exceeds the defined force, the cover can flex and release the pressure from the vessel.

  • Patent number: 7143622
Abstract: The invention relates to an extruded composite profile (10) and to method for separately winding two individual simultaneously extruded tubes (20, 30) with the aid of a winding device. The inventive extruded composite profile (10) consists of at least two individual tubes (20, 30) connected to each other with the aid of a thin binding site which makes it possible to extrude thereof in such a way that they run out from an extruder (a) at an identical velocity (v1). Said output velocity is regulated by a regulating device (D) in order to obtain a constant velocity (v2) prior to dividing the extruded composite profile (10) into said individual tubes by means of a dividing device (E) which are wound afterwards. The levelling of the tubes output velocity (v1) and the winding velocity (v3) corresponding to (v2) makes it possible to carry out a low-cost winding of several simultaneously extruded profiles.

  • Patent number: 7145450
Abstract: In this compactor service and monitoring system, compactor fullness and other critical parameters are monitored by an on-site processor. Compactor fullness is monitored using a pressure sensor capable of measuring hydraulic fluid system pressure for a compactor ram during a compactor compaction cycle. The processor generates a message indicating the compactor is full when the pressure is at least equal to a preset pressure for a preset time during a compaction cycle. Messages are sent via a wireless transmitter to a receiver that converts these messages into internet messages and directs them to a computer server database system. This system creates a work order in response to the message and sends the work order to a service provider via email. The email contains a link back to the database system web-site for tracking services provided by the recipient.

  • Patent number: 7144320
Abstract: An air distribution arrangement is adapted to be arranged in a cabinet for housing rack-mounted equipment that generates heat in use. The arrangement can be part of the cabinet when constructed or it can be an add-on feature. The arrangement includes plenum structure comprising side walls and a top wall that cooperates with the front door of the cabinet and the faces of the rack-mounted equipment to define a plenum. An air box in the cabinet draws ambient air from adjacent the floor into the plenum at a rate of at least 850 cfm. The ambient air is cooler than the air in the cabinet. The faces of the rack-mounted equipment have openings for receiving the ambient air to cool the interiors thereof. After cooling the rack-mounted equipment the air can be exhausted back to the ambient. The side walls and the top wall of the arrangement are adjustable to permit adjustment of the depth of the plenum. Pressure in the plenum can be relieved by slots in the plenum structure.

  • Patent number: 7143923
Abstract: A surgical instrument for laparoscopic and endoscopic clinical procedures simultaneously severs and staples tissue clamped in an end effector comprising an elongate channel, which holds a staple cartridge, and a pivotally attached anvil. An E-beam firing bar engages the channel and selectively engages the anvil during distal firing movements, wherein the tissue is severed and stapled driven upward from the staple cartridge to form against the anvil. In particular an upper pin of the firing bar is disengaged from the anvil before firing. A ramped transition from an anvil to an anvil slot avoids misfiring when the end effector has clamped too much tissue, yet assists in successfully clamping a slightly excess amount of tissue.
