Abstract: In one example, a battery charging system for charging a plurality of portable electronic devices includes a scaling module configured to receive a first voltage and scale the first voltage to a second voltage, a memory configured to store a value, and a processor configured to receive a signal representing the second voltage, retrieve the stored value from the memory, and adjust at least one charging parameter using a comparison between the retrieved value and the received signal representing the second voltage.

Abstract: An interactive play set is described which comprises one or more active physical play pieces. In an embodiment, each active physical play piece receives data from one or more other play pieces in the play set and uses this data to generate proximity data. The proximity data describes distances between two or more play pieces from which it receives data to three or more proximity levels. The proximity data is then transmitted to an interactive entertainment experience (such as a game) which reflects changes in proximity level. For example, the changes may be visible in a graphical user interface or another play piece or audible to a user.

Abstract: A fan having one fan blade; a fan motor for rotating the fan blade; a motor control electrically coupled with the fan motor for controlling operational characteristics of the fan motor; and a power supply having a step-down high efficiency buck converter, a step-down low drop-out linear regulator, and/or a step-down switching regulator are described. The power supply may receive a first input voltage and lower the first input voltage to a second lower voltage. The fan motor is electrically coupled to be driven by the first input voltage and the motor control is electrically coupled to operate using the second lower voltage from the power supply. The motor control may include a microcontroller, level shifters electrically coupled to the microcontroller, and drivers electrically coupled to the level shifters and configured to drive the fan motor.

Abstract: A optoelectronic package includes an inner package with a dielectric substrate having at least a first dielectric level with a photodetector (PD) die on a die attach area, first routing connecting a first contact to a first external bond pad (FEBP), and second routing connecting a second contact to a second external bond pad (SEBP). An outer package (OP) includes a ceramic substrate including a light source die on a base portion in direct line of sight with the PD including a first electrode and second electrode. A first wire bond connects the FEBP to a first terminal, a second wire bond connects the SEBP to a second terminal, a third wire bond connects the first electrode to a third terminal, and a fourth wire bond connects the second electrode to a fourth terminal.

Abstract: An integrated circuit device that includes a wireless component and a secure element is herein disclosed and enabled. The integrated circuit device includes a protected memory area for storing protected data that is implemented to be not accessible by a user, but is accessible by a memory controller included in the integrated circuit device. The memory controller accesses the protected data with a combination of security operations that may include authentication, cryptography, decryption, and encryption. The integrated circuit device further includes a wireless interface for establishing a local point-to-point radio connection with wireless computing devices or readers for transmitting the protected data that is encrypted. The integrated circuit device functions as a security key by requiring the presence of the integrated circuit device when using the protected data. The wireless integrated circuit device can be included in, or embodied, as any wireless communication device, such as a smart card.

Abstract: A virtual machine backup method includes utilizing a log to indicate updates to memory of a virtual machine when the updates are evicted from a cache of the virtual machine. A guard band is determined that indicates a threshold amount of free space for the log. A determination is made that the guard band will be or has been encroached upon corresponding to indicating an update in the log. A backup image of the virtual machine is updated based, at least in part, on a set of one or more entries of the log, wherein the set of entries is sufficient to comply with the guard band. The set of entries is removed from the log.

Abstract: An apparatus for reducing registration errors in a media handling device. The apparatus including an image-bearing member having sheets individually pass across the image-bearing member. Each sheet pass corresponds to one of a series of iterations between the image-bearing member and the sheets. The image-bearing member is operatively coupled to a controller for regulation motion of the image-bearing member. The controller receives input signals representing at least one measured disturbance. Each disturbance being defined by a pattern of image-bearing member movement away from and substantially returning to a reference state of motion. A repetition of the pattern being coincident with at least one of the iterations, wherein based on the measured disturbance, the reference state and an indication associated with when the pattern will repeat, a modified signal is generated for the actuator to adjust the image-bearing member motion in coordination with the indication.

Abstract: A chitosan solution is formed from chitin, which is a homopolymer of beta (1-4)- linked N-acetyl-D-glucosamine. Rinsed, dried and ground chitin undergoes a process of deacetylation to convert some N-acetyl glucosamine to glucosamine, a primary component of chitosan. The chitosan solution is prepared by mixing 5chitosan with a alpha-hydroxy acid such as glycolic acid. An aqueous chelated silver solution is prepared by mixing silver oxide with a carboxylic acid such as citric acid. The chitosan solution can then be mixed with the silver solution resulting in a cationic complex. The cationic complex of the present invention may then be electrostatically bonded with generally negatively charged surfaces. In use, citrate promotes uptake of the silver by microbes. The antimicrobial complex can be applied via several methods of application, including an impregnated wipe, a foam, a gel, a spray, a lotion and an ointment.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for location-aware call processing for routing a call to a provider are provided. A telephone call from an end-user communication device may be received. An indication of a first provider category may be identified. A first set of provider information may be processed based on the first provider category. A heat map may be generated to identify correlations between user information, location information, and/or provider information. An area proximate to a first location of an end-user communication device may be calculated. A second set of provider information may be identified based on the first location and/or the area proximate to the first location. A provider is selected based on rankings of the providers. A provider is selected based on the ranking, a telephone reference is determined for the selected provider, and a connection of a telephone call is facilitated to the selected provider.

Abstract: A fuel injector has a seat and at least one seat passage. The seat includes an outer tip surface through which the seat passage extends. A non-thermally conducting coating is provided on at least a portion of the outer tip surface and not on surfaces defining the seat passage. The coating is constructed and arranged to be heated by combustion gases so that the outer tip surface reaches a temperature greater than a temperature that the outer tip surface would reach if the coating was not provided so as to cause evaporation of fuel that contacts the outer tip surface, The seat passage is constructed and arranged to not be substantially heated by conduction from the outer tip surface and to be cooled by fuel passing there-through so as to prevent deposits of combustion from accumulating on surfaces defining the seat passage.

Abstract: The present invention concerns methods and compositions for making and using bioactive assemblies of defined compositions, which may have multiple functionalities and/or binding specificities. In particular embodiments, the bioactive assembly is formed using dock-and-lock (DNL) methodology, which takes advantage of the specific binding interaction between dimerization and docking domains (DDD) and anchoring domains (AD) to form the assembly. In various embodiments, one or more effectors may be attached to a DDD or AD sequence. Complementary AD or DDD sequences may be attached to an adaptor module that forms the core of the bioactive assembly, allowing formation of the assembly through the specific DDD/AD binding interactions. Such assemblies may be attached to a wide variety of effector moieties for treatment, detection and/or diagnosis of a disease, pathogen infection or other medical or veterinary condition.

Abstract: The described embodiments relate generally to aluminum films and pretreatments for improving the adhesion of aluminum films on substrate surfaces. Methods involve providing three-dimensional adhesion surfaces on the substrate that promote adhesion to a subsequently deposited aluminum film. The methods can avoid the use of strike materials, such as nickel and copper, used in conventional adhesion-promoting treatments. According to some embodiments, methods involve providing an aluminum oxide adhesion layer on the substrate prior to depositing aluminum. According to some embodiments, methods involve providing a zincating layer on the substrate prior to depositing aluminum. According some embodiments, methods involve roughening the surface of the substrate prior to depositing aluminum. Some embodiments involve a combination of two or more substrate pretreatments. Described methods can be used to provide more flexibility in subsequent anodizing processes.

Abstract: An expandable intervertebral fusion device is provided including a core, an upper endplate for contacting a first vertebral body and a lower endplate for contacting a second vertebral body. The expandable intervertebral fusion device is configurable in a first state, a second state and a third state. In the first state, the upper and lower endplates are generally planar to one another and define a first height. In the second state, the upper and lower endplates remain generally planar to one another and define a second height greater than the first height. In the third state, a lordotic angle is defined between the upper and lower endplates.

Abstract: A thermoset composition can include a cross-linked polyolefin; a primary filler selected from the group consisting of talc, calcined clay, or combinations thereof; a secondary filler selected from one or more of a metal oxide and a metal nitride, and one of a composition stabilizer and antioxidant. The thermoset composition can exhibit a thermal conductivity of at least about 0.27 W/mK, and/or a dielectric loss tangent of less than about 3% when measured at 90° C. The thermoset composition can be used in the construction on an insulation layer or jacket layer of a power cable.

Abstract: A methodology for inline characterization and temperature profiling that enables parallel measurement of device characteristics at multiple temperatures and the resulting device are disclosed. Embodiments may include calibrating a first device under test (DUT) with respect to at least one heating structure in a metal layer of an integrated circuit (IC), applying a heater voltage to the at least one heating structure, and measuring at least one characteristic of the first DUT at a first temperature corresponding to the heater voltage.

Abstract: Examples perform live migration of VMs from a source host to a destination host. The disclosure changes the storage environment, directly or through a vendor provider, to active/active synchronous and, during migration, migrates only data which is not already stored at the destination host. The source and destination VMs have concurrent access to storage disks during migration. After migration, the destination VM executes, with exclusive access to the storage disks, and the system is returned to the previous storage environment (e.g., active/active asynchronous).

Abstract: A mounting member for securing a vehicle body to a chassis frame includes a horizontal base wall defining a mounting hole used to assemble the body to a receptacle on the frame. The mounting member further includes a plurality of side walls extending from the base wall to connect to a floor panel of the vehicle body. A boss protrudes from the base wall to the floor panel and includes a bore aligned with the mounting hole. The mounting member also includes at least one gusset extending from the boss to the base wall. The base wall, side walls, boss, and the at least one gusset are integrally formed as a single unitary body.
