  • Patent number: 6116823
Abstract: This invention relates to slot milling tools and the like where a number of inserts (4) are detachably mounted at the periphery of a disc shaped carrier means (1). The seats (3) of the inserts are arranged within integral holding projections arranged and shaped relatively to the intended positions to the inserts that on operation the radial component of the cutting force biases the holding force acting against the insert so that it increases on increase of cutting force. This is achieved by arranging at the essentially radially projections (7) an obliquely located nose portion (8) engaging the insert.

  • Patent number: 5820309
Abstract: Slot or track milling tool device wherein a number of inserts having an insignificant axial extension are arranged in seats at the peripheral portion of an essentially disc shaped tool holder body. The inserts, being of a per se known kind, have at least one abutment face arranged obliquely relative to the insertion direction of the insert. The abutment face in contact with an abutment portion at each seat of the tool holder body. Each such abutment portion being a tongue shaped portion integral with the tool holder body. For each tongue shaped portion, there is arranged a rotatable clamping device having a surface arranged in a cam or eccentric fashion. The rotatable clamping device is intended to displace the tongue shaped portions so that an abutment point thereon reaches an engagement with and remains in engagement with the obliquely rearwardly facing engagement surface of the insert.

  • Patent number: 5538368
Abstract: Tool holder device has an elongated main body presenting a rearwardly extending back portion (2) to be received inside a turret body groove and locked therein by means of wedge means and a forwardly extending portion (3) having an obliquely arranged abutment surface (4) and an outwardly facing surface (5) defining a seat for the insert tool holder. The adjoining surface (6) of the main body having an elongated groove (7) having parallel walls also in parallel with the outwardly facing surface and a bottom perpendicular to same surface and in an intermediary position a number of threaded bores (8) extending essentially in parallel with the outwardly facing surface (5). The groove being adapted to receive two or more L-shaped clamping pieces (9) having one leg (10) with an end portion with a thickness corresponding to the width of the main body elongated groove (7) and another leg (11) having an abutment surface (12) for engaging the insert holder.

  • Patent number: 5392674
Abstract: In a tool arrangement, an end part of a holder shaft is provided with a seat which provides a stable support for a cutter insert in at least two of the principal directions utilized in a machining operation. Stresses imposed on the cutter insert during the machining operation are transferred in an effective fashion to the shaft. The arrangement includes at least one tightenable fastening device which, after tightening, engages with the cutter insert and forces it against at least one surface of the seat. The cutter insert has stop parts with which the fastening device is intended to engage only after the cutter insert, through displacement relative to the seat on the shaft and whilst the cutter insert still in contact with the seat, has reached its operating position.

  • Patent number: 5388936
Abstract: The invention relates to a fastening device or mounting of a tool holder (2) at a mandrel (1) for a milling machine and the like or a rotatable holder for boring machine and the like. The mandrel (1) presents a central trunnion (4) having an axial threaded bore (6). The trunnion (4) is used as a support for a sleeve (9) which is slid over the trunnion (4) and presents an external circumferential V-groove (10). The sleeve (9) has, at its inner end, recesses (8) complementary to a wedge (5) of the mandrel (1). A fastening screw (16) is insertable in the axial threaded bore (6) and has a head (17) engaging the outer end face of the sleeve (9). The tool holder (2) has an opposite central opening on each side communicating with recesses (8) for the wedge. The portion of the tool holder (2) surrounding the sleeve (9) has a number of radial locking screws (13) with conical inner ends adapted to engage the V-groove (10) of the sleeve (9).

  • Patent number: 5382122
Abstract: A device is provided to eliminate unbalance and vibration occurring due to nonsymmetrical mounting of rotatable tools and tool holders in milling machines, arboring machines, drilling machines, etc. Attached to the tool holder in an appropriate place is a weight support able to receive one or more appropriately sized weights. The weights being radially adjustably securable to the weight support.

  • Patent number: 5382119
Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting insert for machine tools wherein the insert adjacent its cutting edge has a chip forming device. The insert has a cutting edge and a planar surface adjoining the cutting edge. A recess is located downstream of the cutting edge and adjoining the planar surface. Various surfaces defining the recess are designed to engage a formed chip and bend it laterally. Obliquely upwardly directed abutment surfaces adjoining the planar surface are adapted to engage the edge flanks of the chip and bend the chip upwardly for breaking the chip into pieces.

  • Patent number: 5315908
Abstract: In an arrangement of an insert holder and a cutting insert, the insert (3) is received in a recess (2) in the insert holder and secured therein by clamping action between portions of the insert holder which define the recess. The recess for the insert (3) is defined in one direction by a substantially unyieldable portion formed with a straight guiding portion (4,5) coacting with a straight edge of the insert, and in the other direction by a nose-shaped resilient portion (8) formed with a shallow projection extending towards the straight guiding portion and having a defined top (12) of small extent in the direction of the recess. The cutting insert (3) comprises a shank (14) whose one side is formed with a guide ridge (15) adapted to seat on the guiding portion (4,5) of the recess (2) and whose opposite side comprises an inclined or bevelled portion (16) adjacent the free end of the shank (14).

  • Patent number: 4973204
Abstract: A cutting insert, especially for turning tools, comprising an insert body having a transverse front cutting edge portion and a rear portion for mounting on and clamping to an insert holder, a cutting surface which connects with said cutting edge being provided with a central chip-forming recess. The novelty of the invention resides in that the chip-forming recess has a concave bottom surface which connects with the transverse cutting edge and with the rest of the cutting surface at a distance from said cutting edge, and that said recess is laterally restricted by inclined, convex sides having a curvature and shape relative to the concave bottom surface such that the bottom surface width at first decreases, as seen in the direction away from the cutting edge and backwards, and then increases again.
