Abstract: A method and apparatus for a very exact correction of the thickness profile of strip rolled in a multi-stand hot strip mill. A measuring device determines the distribution of tensions in the cross-section of the strip (19). The measuring values are processed in a computer (32) to manipulated variables for a swinging or tilting device and a roll bending device (42). The roll bending device (42) is installed at the end of a hot strip mill train, and one or several roll swinging or tilting devices with measuring devices are provided, as seen in rolling direction, before the roll bending device (42).

Abstract: A procedure and apparatus for charging and emptying the drying trays in a drying box containing pumpable, solvent-moist starting materials and end products which can be conveyed pneumatically, in which procedure, for filling, the drying trays are closed by means of cover plates and the solvent-moist starting materials are pumped into the filling spaces which are thus formed, these spaces being opened on commencing the drying process, and being closed again following completion of this process, after which the end products are conveyed away from the filling spaces by pneumatic means.This procedure enables drying boxes to be employed for drying even pumpable, solvent-moist products, the recommendations relating, respectively, to explosion protection and to maximum permissible concentrations of toxic materials at workplaces, being complied with, while the operations of charging and emptying the drying boxes are, at the same time, carried out by mechanical means, and hence at lower cost.

Abstract: A process for purifying crude organic pigments, wherein the crude pigment is suspended in a mixture of two organic liquids which are partially or completely immiscible with one another, the suspension is mixed at 50.degree.-180.degree. C. until equilibrium has been reached, the phases are allowed to separate, the phase containing the impurities (i.e. the first liquid) is separated off and the purified pigment is isolated from the other phase (i.e. the second liquid).Finely divided crude pigments can, directly after purification, be converted, while in the second liquid, into pigmentary forms.The process gives pigments of high purity, which after conversion into pigmentary forms give deep, brilliant colorations.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus are disclosed for equalizing the temperature of hot steel strip traveling from a preliminary rolling mill to a final rolling mill, equalization to be effected both lengthwise and transversely of the steel strip. To achieve this purpose the lateral edge portions of the steel strip are partially covered by heat reflectors which are spaced from and adjustable relative to them.

Abstract: A .beta.-copper phthalocyanine pigment which consists, to the extent of more than 50% by weight, of flakes which are not less than 10 .mu.m long and 3 .mu.m wide, the length:width ratio being not less than 3.3:1, and which has a reflection maximum between 610 and 640 nm and another between 710 and 740 nm.In surface coatings and printing inks the pigment gives optical effects resembling those of metallic pigments. In a baking finish, reddish brown to bluish gray colorations with a metallic reflectance are obtained.

Abstract: A loop lifter for continuous strip rolling mills has an arm which is journalled in a support for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis. An end portion of the arm carries a freely turnable roll which can engage a loop from below and lift it upwardly. A counter balancing spring reacts between a fixed pivot and the arm and assures that the pivot shaft for the arm is not subject to any free torque during pivoting movement of the arm between 0.degree. and 90.degree. of arc.
