  • Patent number: 5848463
Abstract: A method and tool (15) for securing V-shaped, open connector elements (14) o belt ends (1) in a manual operation use staples (8) that are driven by hammer blows applied to a punch held by the tool. Each connector element (14) has at least two shanks (11, 12) and at least one eye loop (13) interconnecting the shanks. The staples (8) are initially held in place for the driving by one shank (11) of the connector elements (14). The securing elements (8) first penetrate holes in one shank (11), then the belt end (1), and then holes in the shank (12), whereupon the free end pieces (53, 54) of the staples (8) are bent over in the tool provided with a die (29) for this purpose. The connecting elements (14) have downwardly projecting shanks (12) which extend initially away from the belt end. These shanks (12) are first pressed against the belt end (1) with a manually produced force increased with the aid of a tool mechanism providing a mechanical advantage.

  • Patent number: 5771587
Abstract: A manual belt skiver removes a top layer of material along an end edge of a elt in preparation for mounting a lacing thereon. The skiver has a base with a handle attached thereto, and a normally vertical contact surface adapted to slide along the end edge of the belt during use. A knife is mounted on the base, and has a thin flat blade protruding outwardly from the contact surface, with a straight interior portion and an upwardly turned outer tip. A pressure bar is mounted on the base, generally forward of the knife, and includes a foot which protrudes laterally outwardly from the contact surface, generally above the cutting edge of the blade to guide the blade through the belt.

  • Patent number: 5553359
Abstract: A unique fastener is provided for conveyor belts and the like, and includes body element with a U-shaped cross section, containing at least one generally semicircular coupling eyelet, and a fastening leg with an entrance slot for at least one fastening pin. The fastening pin is peg-shaped, and has two blunt ends, at least one of which is upset to retain the fastening pin in the body element.

  • Patent number: 5341545
Abstract: A fastening arrangement is provided to interconnect the opposite ends of a elt or the like, and includes a plurality of individual belt fasteners arranged side-by-side across the width of the belt ends. The belt fasteners include mounting portions which are impressed into the opposing faces of the belt end, such that the overall width of the belt tends to thereby expand and distort. A longitudinally inelastic tensioning element is positioned along a major portion of at least one of the belt ends, and is attached thereto, so as to generally maintain the overall width of the associated belt end and resist distortion thereof.

  • Patent number: 5238169
Abstract: The invention refers to a method and a device that serves to connect convr belt ends and to repair tears or splits in conveyor belts by means of plate-shaped or, respectively, oblong connection elements which are provided with openings for the fastening elements. The essence of the invention is that an upper tool serves for positioning at least one upper connection element, and that a lower tool serves for positioning at least one lower connection element, and that the upper tool and the lower tool are provided to drive in staples by means of hammer blows.

  • Patent number: 5236079
Abstract: A fastener arrangement is provided for interconnecting the opposite ends of conveyor belts and the like, and includes a plurality of upper and lower plates arranged in a predetermined side-by-side relationship, and having interior faces shaped to abut both sides of the belt along the opposite belt ends. Each of the upper and lower plates includes apertures through opposite ends thereof in which associated fasteners are closely received. The fasteners have sharpened free ends which are driven through the opposite belt ends, and are bent closed into a crimped condition in which the upper and lower plates are converged and securely mounted on the opposite belt ends. Sealing strips extend along the upper and lower plates and retain the same in their predetermined side-by-side relationship, and are configured to bridge the gap between the opposite belt ends.

  • Patent number: 5234101
Abstract: The invention refers to a conveyor belt connecting element provided with a loop with leg-like extensions, the loop being intended to accommodate a coupling rod, as well as with openings in the leg-like extensions for inserting staples that serve to attach such connecting elements to the end of a conveyor belt. The essence of the invention is that the particular leg of the conveyor belt connecting element against which the free end of the staple legs rest, is provided with sloping contact surfaces for the free ends of the staple legs, and that the respective slope runs from the openings, provided for the staples, towards the loop as well as in the direction of the conveyor belt.

  • Patent number: 4653156
Abstract: A fastener for conveyor belting has a plurality of fastener elements form a strip adapted to join the ends of the of conveyor belting with the aid of a coupling rod. Each strips forms one half of the fastener and its parallel connecting elements have legs and eye lugs for the purpose of forming eyes to receive and encompass a coupling rod after the legs of the two halves have been secured to the two belt ends and after the two belt halves have been brought into alternate interlocking engagement. The elements are secured to the ends of the belting by using pin-like fastening means such as staples. A non-leaking connection and a grease lubrication of the coupling rod are provided by a caulking filler in the form of a molded body of a rubber elastic material with eye lug grooves and fin elements which are aligned with the respective eye lugs of the connecting strip as an extension thereof and the molded body encompasses the coupling rod at least in part.
