  • Publication number: 20020023738
Abstract: A compact cooling system including a radial fan directing air flow outwardly and a plurality of heat exchangers disposed around the radial fan. Each heat exchanger has a plurality of tubes extending between an inlet header and an outlet header, with the headers extending generally in the same direction as the fan axis. A system inlet is connected to the inlet headers and a system outlet is connected to the outlet headers, whereby the length of the connection between each heat exchanger and the system outlet and system inlet is generally the same for each heat exchanger.

  • Publication number: 20010035282
Abstract: A transmission is provided for driving a radial fan about a fan axis in a vehicle cooling unit including a plurality of heat exchangers arranged to surround the radial fan to receive a radial air flow therefrom. The radial fan receives an axial air flow from a front end of the cooling unit. At least one of the heat exchangers has a rearmost edge that defines a back end plane transverse to the fan axis, with none of the other heat exchangers having a rearmost edge that extends rearward beyond the back end plane.

  • Publication number: 20010035283
Abstract: A compact cooling system for a vehicle includes an assembly of heat exchangers (10), (12), (14) and (16) connected to each other to provide a box-like configuration. Each heat exchanger (10), (12), (14), (16) includes a core with headers (20), (22) at each end in fluid communication with spaced, flattened tubes (18) with fins (24) extending between the tubes in each of the cores. One of the cores (10) is generally horizontal and located at the upper side of the box-like configuration. A radial discharge fan (42) is located within the box-like configuration and receives cooling air and directs the same radially outwardly through the cores to cool fluid passing through the tubes (18) of the cores. An equalization tank (60), (80) is mounted on the box-like configuration in overlying, spaced relation to a substantial portion of the surface of the heat exchanger (18) so as to be in the path of cooling air merging from the heat exchanger (10) to divert the same.

  • Patent number: 6293337
Abstract: An exhaust gas heat exchanger including a stack of heat exchanger plates that form separate flow channels that run parallel to each other, collection spaces, and inlets and outlets for the exhaust gas and for the preferably liquid coolant. The flow channels for the one of the media formed from heat exchanger plates are longer than the flow channels for the other medium, and pass through the collection space for this other medium. The heat exchanger also includes a region without a housing in which the two flow channels run parallel to each other.

  • Publication number: 20010020363
Abstract: An exhaust gas heat exchange system for an internal combustion engine (10) includes an intake manifold (12) including an inlet (16) for recirculating exhaust gases and an exhaust manifold (28) having at least one inlet (30) for receiving exhaust gas from the engine (10) and an outlet (36), (60), for discharging exhaust gas and spaced from the inlets (30). An exhaust gas heat exchanger (32) includes a first flow path having an inlet (50) connected to the exhaust manifold (32) to receive exhaust gas therefrom, an outlet (52) for discharging cooled exhaust therefrom and a second flow path in heat exchange relation with the first flow path for receipt of a coolant whereby exhaust gas flowing in the first flow path may be cooled.

  • Patent number: 5345674
Abstract: In a method of making a heat exchanger having a heat exchanger network with a plurality of tubes and at least one base plate having a plurality of passages for tube ends, the passages in the base plate are triangular, and the tube ends are triangular prior to insertion into the base plate. The triangular tube ends are inserted into the triangular passages in the base plate and thereafter expanded to a tight fit.
