  • Patent number: 4277734
Abstract: An electric brake motor, particularly of the kind having a squirrel cage rotor and a slow-running stator winding with a large number of poles, is provided with electrical switching means to increase the motor current briefly on starting, at least on starting of the slowrunning winding, so as to increase the magnetic field generated by the motor current for releasing the brake. The switching means may be contacts actuated by axial movement of the rotor on starting, or a relay or contactor operated by the motor current or by a control switch. The increase in current may be achieved by briefly shortcircuiting part of the motor winding or by briefly connecting a second, fast-running stator winding in parallel with the slow-running winding in the case of a change-pole motor.

  • Patent number: 4200710
Abstract: A process for the preparation of PVP-iodine by reacting polyvinylpyrrolidone powder with elementary iodine at from 70.degree. to 100.degree. C. The reaction is carried out in the presence of formic acid, oxalic acid or an ammonium salt or amide of carbonic acid, formic acid or oxalic acid. The process avoids the disadvantage of long periods of heating, which can result in degradation of the polyvinylpyrrolidone, and is particularly suitable for the preparation of a stable PVP-iodine using a low molecular weight polyvinylpyrrolidone.

  • Patent number: 4182851
Abstract: A process for reducing the residual monomer content of a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing vinyl esters and N-vinyl-lactams in a solvent in the presence of a free radical polymerization initiator. Following the main polymerization, from 0.05 to 0.5% by weight, based on the monomers employed, of di-tert.-butyl peroxide, di-tert.-amyl peroxide, dicumyl peroxide, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-bis-(tert.-butylperoxy)-hexane, 2,2-bis-(tert.-butylperoxy)-butane, 1,1-bis-(tert.-butylperoxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane, 4,4-di-(tert.-butylperoxy)-butyl valerate, or a mixture of these, is added to the reaction mixture and the after-polymerization is carried out at a higher temperature than the main polymerization.

  • Patent number: 4085264
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of copolymers by copolymerizing acrylic acid or methacrylic acid with esters of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid in the presence of polymerization initiators, in which methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and a higher alkyl acrylate are copolymerized.

  • Patent number: 4053696
Abstract: A process for the continuous manufacture of vinylpyrrolidone polymers of low K values, wherein vinylpyrrolidone, with or without comonomers copolymerizable therewith, is polymerized in organic solvents at elevated temperatures and superatmospheric pressures in the presence of a source of free radicals.

  • Patent number: 4027083
Abstract: Polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine, manufactured by reaction of iodine and a polyvinylpyrrolidone obtained by polymerization in an anhydrous organic solvent in the presence of a source of free radicals and optionally in the presence of a heavy metal of atomic number from 23 to 29, in the form of a complex compound or of a salt with an organic acid, as a co-activator, followed by steam distillation of this polyvinylpyrrolidone, if appropriate. The PVP-iodine of the invention is very stable and can be used as a disinfectant.

  • Patent number: 3957927
Abstract: Cyclic phosphorus nitride esters are prepared as flameproofers of high durability for use on regenerated cellulose. The known synthesis from cyclic phosphorus nitride chlorides with alcohols in the presence of amines is controlled under specific temperature conditions such that desired side-reactions permit the production, in a simple manner and in very high yields, of products showing a durability to washing not hitherto achieved.
