  • Patent number: 10251727
Abstract: A method and system for producing a dental implant surgical guide is disclosed. A patient-specific virtual model is generated using image data specific to a patient and virtual dental implants. The virtual model aligns the image data with the virtual dental implants using modeling software. A virtual mold is generated from the virtual model, and a physical mold is generated from the virtual mold. The physical mold is covered with a thermoplastic sheet via a thermoforming process. Excess thermoplastic material is trimmed off after the thermoforming process to produce a thermoformed piece. Metal tubes corresponding to each the virtual dental implants are placed onto the physical mold denoting the position, trajectory, and depth of the one or more virtual dental implants. A dental implant surgical guide that contains the thermoformed piece with the one or more tubes is produced.

  • Patent number: 9105127
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for generating combined image data representing a volumetric image of a subject and a color textured external surface of the subject. According to one embodiment, two-dimensional image data and volumetric data of a subject is obtained using it two-dimensional imager and a volumetric scanner, respectively. The two-dimensional image data represent color texture of the subject, and the volumetric data represents both an internal and external structure of the subject. An opacity threshold of the volumetric data is set to render an external surface of the subject without generating external surface mesh data. An array ray is extended from a view point of the two-dimensional image data to the external surface of the subject such that the external surface of the subject has an opacity level higher than the opacity threshold.

  • Publication number: 20140178832
Abstract: A system and method for providing compact navigation-based surgical guide for dental implant surgery is disclosed. According to one embodiment, a surgical guide system comprise includes a surgical guide comprising having a tracking marker. The surgical guide is fabricated to be custom fitted to a patient's mouth or jawbone. The tracking marker is placed at an implant site according to a virtual implant plan. A sensor placed on a drill piece detects electromagnetic signals that are used to determine the position of the tracking marker. A computer in communication with the sensor processes the tracking marker data received from the sensor, determines a relative position of the drill piece with respect to the tracking marker, and provides real-time tracking of the drill piece on the display of the computer.
