  • Publication number: 20010014119
Abstract: A motion image encoding apparatus for a current image containing an object uses mesh representation for encoding a motion image. The encoding apparatus includes an object extractor for extracting the object contained in the current image from received current image data and outputting object contour data indicating a contour of the extracted object. A predictive encoder performs a predictive encoding operation using the current image data, prestored data of a reference image, and control points of meshes which divide one of the current image and the reference image, and generates motion information relating to the control points, differential data between the current image and the reference image, and predictive image data.

  • Patent number: 5903682
Abstract: An object-oriented image representation apparatus using irregular meshes includes an object image extractor for extracting image blocks containing an object contained in a whole image from the whole image represented by received image data. A regular mesh former generates rectangular mesh data including fixed control points, floating control points and pixel data from the extracted object image. The fixed control points and the floating control points are vertex points belonging to an object image among vertex points of a plurality of the rectangular meshes which divide the whole image, and the fixed control points are vertex points located at the corners of the object image.

  • Patent number: 5737021
Abstract: A transform coefficient selection method and apparatus for coding a still image and a motion image in a transform coding system are provided, which can receive an input block and far better enhance a quality of picture of a restored image by selecting a predetermined number of transform coefficients taking into account an amount of variation of blocks due to an error between a block restored by a local decoder for each transform coefficient and the input block and an amount of variation of bits generated by selecting each transform coefficient.

  • Patent number: 5719629
Abstract: A motion picture encoding method and apparatus which divides a previous frame of a motion picture into arbitrary quadrilateral objects, obtains a predictive error through movement trace and prediction for each quadrilateral object; and encodes each quadrilateral object independently by converting the predictive error from a quadrilateral unit into a square object having K.times.K dimensions, where K is an integer.

  • Patent number: 5715004
Abstract: A transformation coding apparatus for transforming blocks of data corresponding to a boundary of an object. The apparatus includes a transformer for transforming an input block and producing transformation coefficients, a transformation coefficient selector for selecting and outputting certain transformation coefficients based on the transformation coefficients and the input block, an inverse transformer for inversely transforming the transformation coefficients selected by the transformation coefficient select means, and outputting a restored block, and an encoder for variable-length-coding the select coefficients selected by the transformation coefficient select means. A repetition controller calculates a mean square error of the input data block and the restored data block, compares, the calculated mean square error with a predetermined reference value, and determines whether to continue selecting coefficients.
