  • Patent number: 8423008
Abstract: A network access node eNB sends to a user equipment UE a pattern of subframe measurement restrictions and an indication of how to utilize the pattern for measuring subframes. The indication may select from among: the UE's own-cell measurements; the UE's neighbor-cell measurements; both same and neighbor-cell measurements, and no measurement restrictions. The eNB may generate the pattern from an almost-blank subframe ABS pattern for the UE's own-cell and of its neighbor-cell. The pattern and indication may be sent in separate RRC messages, or if sent in one message there is a second indication sent in a second RRC message instructing the UE to terminate utilizing the pattern and indication for restricting its subframe measurements. Embodiments are particularly useful for inter-cell interference mitigation eICIC for the LTE-Advanced system.

  • Publication number: 20130040605
Abstract: Improved systems and techniques for controlling access to network resources. A base station broadcasts extended access barring (EAB) and access class barring (ACB) information. Upon a determination by a user equipment that the user equipment requires service from the base station, the user equipment determines its EAB category and call type. The user equipment receives the EAB and ACB information broadcast by the base station and determines if it is subject to EAB based on its EAB category. If the user equipment is not subject to EAB, the user equipment determines if its call type is subject to ACB and, if the call type is subject to ACB, applies access class barring based on its call type.

  • Publication number: 20130022095
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems are provided for modem coordination. A method may include establishing a coordinated communication session with a base station on a first communication channel. The method may further include causing transmission, to the base station, of an indication of an occurrence of an irregular transmission of data on a second communication channel. The second communication channel may be with a station logically separated from the base station. The base station maybe configured to respond to the indication of the occurrence of the irregular transmission by modifying transmission on the first communication channel to avoid interfering with the irregular transmission. The method may additionally include causing transmission, to the base station, of an indication of completion of the irregular transmission to allow the base station to resume normal transmission on the first communication channel. Corresponding apparatuses and systems are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20120320867
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for providing a network element 5 of a communications network with data, in particular HSDPA related data. In order to enable the transmission of user data, it is proposed that a controller 4 of the network uses a dedicated frame structure for assembling frames with said user data. The frames can then be transmitted from the controller 4 via an interface to the network element 5. In order to enable the transmission of control parameters, it is further proposed that an interface application protocol is employed which allows the controller 4 to add control parameters to control messages transmitted from the controller 4 to a network element 5 via the interface.

  • Publication number: 20120281527
Abstract: Re-establishment methods and control apparatuses for causing performance of the methods is disclosed. In a method, when data is communicated on a configured set of component carriers, a trigger for connection re-establishment is detected. At least one component carrier in the configured set is identified, the component carrier being such that it can be used for connection re-establishment. • Patent number: 8243633
Abstract: Parameters are defined for use on an interface (lub/lur) between network elements to enable configuration setup of an enhanced radio uplink (UL E-DCH). The basic Information Elements (IEs) are defined to support UL E-DCH functionality in the network on lub/lur. Particular parameters are shown for communication over the lub/lur interface between the RNCs and the Node Bs in order to be able to setup and re-configure the UL E-DCH channel. Flexibility is provided so as not to be restricted to any particular message or information element, but to be applicable to any selected message or messages in a given protocol.

  • Publication number: 20120082105
Abstract: Disclosed is a method that includes receiving, when in a radio resource control (RRC) Connected state, a RRC connection release message from a network access node; setting a wait timer in accordance with a wait timer indication that comprises part of the RRC connection release message; and upon an expiration of the wait timer, enabling the initiating of sending an RRC connection request message to the network access node. Also disclosed is a method that includes operating a network access node with mobile node and sending a RRC connection release message to the mobile node. The RRC connection release message comprises a wait timer indication for specifying an amount of time that the mobile node should wait before initiating the sending of a RRC connection request message. • Patent number: 8068513
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for determining (e.g., calculating) a load measure by a network element (e.g., Node B or any other network element) for optimizing information traffic in communication networks (e.g., wireless communication systems). This load measure may represent the amount of available/excess traffic that a given network element may carry and is a relative measure, which would take into account the total amount of resources available in the system and the amount of resources that are free for carrying only “important” or “essential” traffic, using a weighed method described herein.

  • Publication number: 20110205976
Abstract: A node of a communication system having a plurality of aggregated component carriers CCs determines that a user equipment UE is capable of operating simultaneously on multiple CCs. During configuration or re-configuration of the UE, the node sends to the UE radio resource control RRC signaling along with an indication of which of the plurality of CCs to which the RRC signaling applies. In an embodiment the determining is from a UE capability information element that the UE sends which indicates at least a maximum number of downlink or uplink CCs on which the UE can simultaneously communicate. There may be a separate indication for each downlink and each uplink CC to which the RRC signaling applies, and the CCs for which the RRC signaling relates may be reconfigured upon handover to another cell or during any configuration/re-configuration.

  • Patent number: 7944943
Abstract: A channel inverse multiplexer/multiplexer (IMUX/MUX) (14a) of a MAC sublayer (14) of a UTRAN RNC (11) for providing to a UE (18) traffic (communication signals including in general both control and user data) at a higher rate than the UE can accept over a single channel. The channel IMUX/MUX performs inverse multiplexing of traffic for downlink, and multiplexing of traffic on uplink, and does so in a way that is transparent to all other layers/entities of the UTRAN (11 17) and to the UE (18).

  • Patent number: 7907570
Abstract: High speed data packet access (HSDPA) is facilitated by ensuring that power offsets are delivered to the base station (Node B) so that the new functions envisioned therefor having to do with scheduling and retransmission handling can be carried out effectively. A signal primitive having one or more information elements indicative of corresponding power offsets are received by the Node B, saved for future use and then signalled back to the serving radio network controller so that the user equipment can be informed with a proper RRC message containing the appropriate power offsets.
