  • Publication number: 20050207359
Abstract: Parameters are defined for use on an interface (lub/lur) between network elements to enable configuration setup of an enhanced radio uplink (UL E-DCH). The basic Information Elements (IEs) are defined to support UL E-DCH functionality in the network on lub/lur. Particular parameters are shown for communication over the lub/lur interface between the RNCs and the Node Bs in order to be able to setup and re-configure the UL E-DCH channel. Flexibility is provided so as not to be restricted to any particular message or information element, but to be applicable to any selected message or messages in a given protocol.

  • Publication number: 20050074034
Abstract: A protocol (and corresponding equipment) for use in communicating between a sending node (11) and a receiving node (12) a frame (10) including a Spare Extension (SE) section conveying values for one or more information element (IE) fields, and also including a New IE Flags IE or other device for indicating to the receiving node (12) whether the SE section includes valid data for each IE in the SE section. A flag indicating whether valid data is provided in the SE section can be used, and also an IE indicating the length of the SE section. The protocol is such that the receiving node (12) treats an IE field value occurring in the SE section as spare bits if the IE field was introduced for a version of a later release of a specification than that according to which the receiving node (12) was implemented.

  • Publication number: 20050063347
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for providing a network element 5 of a communications network with data, in particular HSDPA related data. In order to enable the transmission of user data, it is proposed that a controller 4 of the network uses a dedicated frame structure for assembling frames with said user data. The frames can then be transmitted from the controller 4 via an interface to the network element 5. In order to enable the transmission of control parameters, it is further proposed that an interface application protocol is employed which allows the controller 4 to add control parameters to control messages transmitted from the controller 4 to a network element 5 via the interface.

  • Patent number: 6871075
Abstract: An additional parameter is added to be used in parallel or together with a generic “load” value currently proposed for communication between a first radio network controller (controller which performs the measurement) and a second radio network controller suggesting a proposed action. Because the second controller receives the proposed action, it can take the proposed or other appropriate action in order to solve the congestion situation in the first controller more effectively in a multi-vendor environment.

  • Patent number: 6850770
Abstract: A first radio link set (RLS) indicator parameter is added to a radio link addition request message on Iub and on Iur. As in the case of radio link setup, the first RLS indicator IE used in the radio link addition request message indicates if the added RL is to be considered part of the first RLS established toward this UE in that frequency. If the first RLS indicator IE is set to “first RLS”, which means interfrequency handover, the Node B shall use a TPC pattern of (n×01)+1 in the downlink of the added RL and all RLs which are part of the same RLS, until UL synchronization is achieved on the Uu. The parameter n is set equal to the value received in the DL TPC pattern 01 count IE in the cell setup procedure. The TPC pattern is continuously repeated, but restarted at the beginning of every frame with Connection Frame Number (CFN) mod 4=0. For all other RLs, the Node B uses a TPC pattern of all ones in the downlink until uplink synchronization is achieved on the Uu.

  • Publication number: 20040213297
Abstract: The area of the invention belongs to the transport technologies in UTRAN. This invention concerns a method for multiplexing a data stream onto a transport bearer between an originating network node and a receiving network node in a telecommunications network. This is done in order to ensure the effective usage of transport resources over the two interfaces, i.e. Iub/Iur. To accomplish this the RNC and/or Node B/RNC should check if the there already exists a transport bearer, which can be utilised for HS-DSCH transport over Iub/Iur interface. Because of this a transport bearer identification code or transport bearer id is needed to identify this bearer between RNC and Node B/RNC.

  • Publication number: 20040120306
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for scheduling data packets in a base station device of an access network. An information indicating a re-transmission status of a data packet is provided to the base station device, and a scheduling priority is allocated to the data packet based on the retransmission status information. Thereby, retransmission packets can be scheduled earlier and round trip times can be reduced, so as to decrease the risk of timeouts and stalling and to loosen buffer requirements.

  • Patent number: 6738624
Abstract: A method and system for reporting processing capacity of a base station (Node B) to a radio network controller (RNC), in a mobile telecommunications system. This method enables the RNC to enhance call control and resource management, especially when the Node B employs a time division duplex (TDD), but also if a frequency division duplex (FDD) system is employed. An important feature of this method is reporting processing capacity from the Node B to the RNC using the available bit rate (ABR).

  • Publication number: 20030228876
Abstract: High speed data packet access (HSDPA) is facilitated by ensuring that power offsets are delivered to the base station (Node B) so that the new functions envisioned therefor having to do with scheduling and retransmission handling can be carried out effectively. A signal primitive having one or more information elements indicative of corresponding power offsets are received by the Node B, saved for future use and then signalled back to the serving radio network controller so that the user equipment can be informed with a proper RRC message containing the appropriate power offsets.

  • Publication number: 20030153323
Abstract: A method by which resources of a cell under the supervision of a controlling radio network controller (CRNC) are reserved for providing high speed downlink packet access via a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) having one or more corresponding physical channels (HS-PDSCHs), the method including as steps: a step (61) in which the CRNC for the Node B serving the cell sends to the Node B a message conveying cell-specific high speed downlink packet access HSDPA information indicating codes for the HS-DSCH and for an associated high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) and also indicating a maximum allowed value for the combined power of the HS-SCCH and the HS-PDSCHs; and a step (63) in which the Node B communicates to the CRNC a cell-specific HSDPA resource response indicating either the resources the Node B has reserved or indicating only whether or not all the resources requested by CRNC were successfully reserved.

  • Publication number: 20030099241
Abstract: A method and apparatus (14a 14b) for providing a high speed transport bearer (12a 12b), using end-to-end ATM adaptation layer type 2 (AAL2) signaling to set up the high speed transport bearer (12a 12b), for use by a user application (10a) hosted by a sending entity (19a) in communicating with a peer user application (10b) of a receiving entity (19b) over a network, in a way that uses multiple component connections (17a 17b) each providing only a fraction of the overall bit rate of the high speed transport bearer.

  • Publication number: 20030099255
Abstract: A channel inverse multiplexer/multiplexer (IMUX/MUX) (14a) of a MAC sublayer (14) of a UTRAN RNC (11) for providing to a UE (18) traffic (communication signals including in general both control and user data) at a higher rate than the UE can accept over a single channel. The channel IMUX/MUX performs inverse multiplexing of traffic for downlink, and multiplexing of traffic on uplink, and does so in a way that is transparent to all other layers/entities of the UTRAN (11-17) and to the UE (18).

  • Publication number: 20030093532
Abstract: A method of assigning resources within a network element within which a traffic termination point or AAL2 termination point has been established. The network element accepts a connection request, and it is then ascertained whether available resources have sufficient capacity to establish the requested connection. In the event that there is sufficient capacity, it is ascertained whether the termination points defined in relation to the available resources fragments the resources such that the connection cannt be established. If the resources are so fragmented, then one or more of the termination points are reallocated, without breaking the connection to which they relate, thereby defragmenting the resources sufficiently that the requested conenction can be established.
