  • Patent number: 8418209
Abstract: Techniques for mobile devices to receive real-time digital TV are disclosed. To make such mobile devices (e.g., smart phones) readily usable regardless of what standard a local TV broadcast may comply with, more than one demodulators are provided. Each of the demodulators is implemented in accordance with one type of TV standard. Based on the received TV signal, a corresponding demodulator is activated to demodulate the TV signal. In one embodiment, the demodulators are implemented in software modules. Thus a missing demodulator may be downloaded from a designated site when a mobile device is configured to detect that a new demodulator needs installed to process a received TV signal.

  • Patent number: 8358141
Abstract: A scanning evanescent microwave microscope (SEMM) that uses near-field evanescent electromagnetic waves to probe sample properties is disclosed. The SEMM is capable of high resolution imaging and quantitative measurements of the electrical properties of the sample. The SEMM has the ability to map dielectric constant, loss tangent, conductivity, electrical impedance, and other electrical parameters of materials. Such properties are then used to provide distance control over a wide range, from to microns to nanometers, over dielectric and conductive samples for a scanned evanescent microwave probe, which enable quantitative non-contact and submicron spatial resolution topographic and electrical impedance profiling of dielectric, nonlinear dielectric and conductive materials. The invention also allows quantitative estimation of microwave impedance using signals obtained by the scanned evanescent microwave probe and quasistatic approximation modeling.

  • Patent number: 8335252
Abstract: In known video coding standards there are basically three types of pictures: I, P and B. Video sequences are usually coded in a group of picture structure wherein several P or B pictures are coded following one I picture. However, this GOP structure has some disadvantages with respect to error resilience and storage medium recording. If a P picture is lost e.g. due to transmission channel error, then the subsequent P pictures can not be reconstructed correctly, and the error will propagate temporally and cause unpleasing artifacts. This GOP structure is designed for forward play only and makes complicated a reverse play operation. According to the invention, a reversible GOP structure is used for the video encoding and decoding. The RGOP structure contains both, a forward encoding chain and a backward encoding chain. Each picture in the RGOP structure is assigned to only one of these chains and the video pictures of adjacent RGOP chains are interleaved.

  • Publication number: 20120315950
Abstract: A dual mode mobile communication terminal includes a GSM antenna, a GSM radio frequency (RF) circuit, a baseband circuit, a CDMA antenna, and a CDMA RF circuit. The GSM antenna and the CDMA antenna receive and transmit GSM signals and CDMA signals respectively. The baseband circuit processes the GSM signals and the CDMA signals, and generates corresponding signals. The CDMA RF circuit includes a low noise amplifier (LNA). The baseband circuit controls the LNA according to the transmission power levels of the GSM signal to lower the strength of the GSM signal in the LNA, to reduce and prevent mutual or other interference between the GSM signal and the CDMA signal so as to provide high-quality CDMA signals.

  • Publication number: 20120301250
Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to enable multiple paper sheets to be bound without using a binding material such as staples, and to enable the binding process to be performed appropriately and easily on paper sheets that are to be browsed. The configuration is one in which the hole-punching direction and the cutting direction are toward the handle, and the hole-punched part is visible during the binding process via a window portion. Consequently, it is possible to perform the binding process appropriately and easily on paper sheets that are to be browsed. Furthermore, because the multiple sheets are bound by a strip, it is possible to bind multiple paper sheets without using a binding material.
