  • Publication number: 20020098598
Abstract: A method for the generation of chemical libraries using machine-readable passive tagging systems is described. The preferred embodiment uses radiofrequency tags or one- or two-dimensional bar codes to track vials and the contents therein throughout the course of the synthesis. This abrogates the need for specialized combinatorial chemistry equipment, allowing the use of standard laboratory baths, ovens, shakers and racks, as well as manual fluid handling techniques.
    Type: Application

  • Publication number: 20020068367
Abstract: A high throughput screening method for detecting interactions between proteins, nucleic acids and small molecules comprising coating a solid support surface with a substance, such as streptavidin, that has a high affinity for a ligand, such as biotin, that may be readily attached to a library of compounds via a linker molecule. The biotin linked library members are spotted onto the stretpavidin in a pattern and screened for binding to other compounds of interest. Thus, it is possible to screen much smaller quantities of compounds than would be possible in a multiwell format. Due to the high affinity of biotin for streptavidin, there is no diffusion of the compounds on the solid support. Moreover, the method provides a high throughput, low cost screen that may be accomplished completely manually without the use of expensive fluid handling robots.

  • Patent number: 6319668
Abstract: Combinations, called matrices with memories, of matrix materials that are encoded with an optically readable code are provided. The matrix materials are those that are used in as supports in solid phase chemical and biochemical syntheses, immunoassays and hybridization reactions. The matrix materials may additionally include fluophors or other luminescent moieties to produce luminescing matrices with memories. The memories include electronic and optical storage media and also include optical memories, such as bar codes and other machine-readable codes. By virtue of this combination, molecules and biological particles, such as phage and viral particles and cells, that are in proximity or in physical contact with the matrix combination can be labeled by programming the memory with identifying information and can be identified by retrieving the stored information. Combinations of matrix materials, memories, and linked molecules and biological materials are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6306975
Abstract: Methods for irradiation induced graft polymerization of a monomers, such as styrenes, onto fluoropolymers are provided. The methods, which involve either the use of acids, preferably mineral acids, or creating a rough surface on the fluoropolymer, provide higher levels of grafting of the copolymer than grafting in the absence of the acid or of the rough surface on the fluoropolymer. Also provided are grafted copolymers produced by the methods. Methods for increasing the performance of solid phase assays, such as scintillation proximity assays, are also provided.
