  • Patent number: 9894531
Abstract: Techniques for accurate, low-complexity, scalable indoor localization. Low-complexity anchor nodes generate acoustic beacon signals, which are passively detectable by a mobile device, which may be unmodified smartphones operating in an acoustic frequency range. The acoustic beacon signals are modulated via codes in a boundary band of audio and ultrasound frequencies, imperceptible to humans yet detectable via a voice microphone of an unmodified smartphone. An application on the mobile device passively captures the acoustic beacon signals and determines relative distances to the anchor nodes. Localization and distance update techniques, implemented on the mobile device and/or a remote server, determines and updates in real-time the location of the mobile device. The system may be scalable to support any number of mobile devices.

  • Publication number: 20170267712
Abstract: Methods for modulating (inhibiting or stimulating) retinoid-related orphan receptor ? (ROR?) activity. This modulation has numerous effects, including inhibition of TH-17 cell function and/or TH-17 cell activity, and inhibition of re-stimulation of TH-17 cells, which are beneficial to treatment of inflammation and autoimmune disorders. • Publication number: 20170201858
Abstract: Techniques and systems are disclosed for enhancing the flexibility and resiliency of mobile social networking platforms. Techniques enable dynamic, user-defined check-in points with mobile devices so that users may define ad hoc, location-based communities. Techniques may also selectively determine an appropriate location-sensing mechanism to improve location accuracy or privacy, or to compensate for unavailable location-sensing capabilities. The techniques may assist social networking platforms to have a greater range of check-in options and to enable communication that may not rely on traditional network connectivity. In some cases, devices belonging to participators outside the member group may be used to locate a member who has moved outside the detection zone of a check-in point. In some cases, the participators' devices might not be directly connected to the lost member device but instead are connected via one or more “hops” of indirect communication with other participator devices.

  • Patent number: 9233166
Abstract: Disclosed are nanoparticles, such as carbon nanotubes or other graphitic sheet materials having extended aromatic surfaces, which are used to deliver active agents such as drugs, labels or dyes (termed for convenience a “drug”) to the interior of cells. The nanoparticles are functionalized by a hydrophilic polymer or adsorption of an amphiphilic molecule to render them stable in suspension. The drug is therefore capable of release in the cell exterior. The drug is more rapidly released at lower pH, as found e.g., in tumor cells. The drug may also be linked to a branched chain hydrophilic polymer, so that each polymer molecule carries more than one drug bound by a cleavable linker.

  • Patent number: 9196396
Abstract: An insulator is disclosed, which includes an insulating surface. A part of the insulating surface is applied with a conductive coating having a specific resistivity. A conductive coating region having the specific resistivity and a nonconductive coating region are configured that: in a dry environment, no continuous conductive channel exists between upper and lower fittings of the insulator. The value of the leakage current that can be caused by the conductive coating region having the specific resistivity on the insulating surface enables the insulating surface to reach an ice-proof temperature in an icing climate condition. Also, a power transmission apparatus in which the insulator is adopted is disclosed. In an icing climate condition, the conductive coating can achieve the function of increasing the value of the leakage current on the surface of the insulator, so as to prevent the ice formation.
